You guys have a great forum. No doubt. One of the reasons I decided to join up here.
But alot of the opinions on the forum over there are pretty offbase.
I was banned for a year from ExtremeSkins 2 years ago. I only go there now to read some news that someone may have not posted here. I got to say that the site is ok but some of the mods (I wont mention any names) have some serious mental problems in my opinion. I also think that some of the fans there just like to cause trouble and not post any news of note.
This site is great and alot better than ExtremeSkins imo. Thats not a knock on ES but just my personal opinion. I just dont like sites where people want to try to be the best Skins fan ever and bash other Skins fans for simple mistakes. Ive seen it alot lurking around ES the last couple years and im happy I dont post there anymore.
This isnt a personal grudge either. I just dont think some of the people there have common sense when it comes to being the so called official message board of the Washington Redskins. My experience there was why I stopped posting on message boards for two years and just talked in football chat rooms.

All I know is that
1.) I was banned
2.) They never told me WHY I was banned
3.) It's still a good site where you can say what's on your mind.

The main reason that I don't post there anymore was the mods. It just seems like they enjoy eviscerating some members then baning them before they can make any kind of response. Sometimes it was understandable but many times it just seemed like they were taking there bad day out on random people.

I was rooting for a certain team in a different sport and they were going vs the mods team. He didnt like that the team I was rooting for was beating his. He banned me for I think a month for it. So I made a new name and just cussed him out.
Im not usually that type of guy but when a grown up wants to act like a kid because his team is losing a game then im going to give him my two cents.
I finally decided to posting again on a message board and im happy I did because this site is great.

Knee jerk reactions are understandable.... I just think that being an mod you would sit back and think before taking your anger out on someone for any small reason. Almost like having a God complex.

Oh well. Can't change a person's opinion no matter how hard I try.

PS: Sorry for the old bumpage. Didn't mean to do that. Thought I read '2009' on the last posting date.
Uhh. Oops.

Say what you will about ES, but I may be slightly doltish.
Carry on.
We've had our share of 'refugees' from ES. . .maybe some of them broke the rules over there, but many of those who were banned at ES are fine contributors here.
It only takes a quick glance to see that ES is a zoo. Maybe it's good for some people, but I wouldn't be able to get much out of it if I tried. Maybe there's something about THN being one's home that makes a man defensive. I don't know. All I know is that I like it here, not elsewhere, and that there are quite a few people around THN who feel the same way.
I've learned more about the Redskins—present and past—and about football on THN than I ever thought I could from an internet message board. I've also learned more about what it means to be a true fan, and I've made a few friends along the way.
Yet every time I stumble on something at ES, I feel dumber for having read it. So I tend to stay here, instead.
No blind hatred here; just a love of home.

Well spoken, IB, and I believe you when you say it's not hatred for other sites as much as love of this one, in the main. Perhaps I'm in the minority here, but like my friend from ES, KDawg, I belong to several Redskins eCommunities. I find special things in all of them, in their own individual ways.
Some might call me the worst kind of attention tramp, but the way I see it having lived my entire life a Redskins fan on the other side of the country, now that I have the chance to inundate myself with news, statistics, press conferences and the like -- all of it about my beloved team -- and then discuss it with fellow fans to boot...well, it doesn't get any better than that. And I could never have too much of that good thing.

note that I've only been on ES a few times and it was pretty chaotic.
Also we have to take into account that people usually voice a bad experience moreso than a good one, so the ones that don't frequent ES are going to have more bad experiences (3rd party of course) to remember than good. Not defending, just wanted to point it out.

There's nothing wrong with ES, IMHO. Every board has its own philosophy and its own tone based upon the members that make it up.
ES is run vastly different than our board, and really, with a billion members, it has to be. Here, we have a lot of mods because our most desired attribute is to have a good, easy-to-follow flow of conversation, free from bickering and name-calling (except in smack, of course, which is there to allow people to do what they need to do without clogging up the rest of the forums).
No matter how many mods we have, however, there are only three people that can weild banningn or suspending you as an option, only two that can suspend you, and only one that can ban you. Besides spammers and trolls, we've only banned two members in the history of the site, and both of them were given an ample amount of rope to hang themselves.

This is why I like THN over ES. The way the site in general is handled is more laid back and thats the way a football convo should be.

I was reading Xtreme and I get the posters who say it sucks. I understand they are trying to keep things in line, but their staff go so far and are constantly condescending and even belligerent to their posters. I don't know why anyone would WANT to post when they are treated as if they really shouldn't be allowed to do so since it's a site for the staff and anything else allowed is a great burden to them and should and probably at some point will be banned.
I think this board is a lot better moderated and has a far better philosophy to let people post and then follow up as necessary when it gets out of hand. I also like the philosophy the moderators try to be general members in the discussions and just staff when they need to be. I may object to the moderators, but it's only because I have authority issues. On the other hand,I believe in giving credit where credit is due. Hmm...a paradox. This site really is way better then XtremeSkins.

If I remember correctly one banned fellow was named after #26, our current running back....

Nope. Not banned.
Most of the time someone disappears at THN it's just because they stop coming back. So just because someone is annoying, and then leaves, doesn't mean we've banned them.

As IB points out, most people ban themselves because they:
a) think that being asked to stay on topic, avoid name-calling unless in smack or adhering to the same basic tenets as everyone else is some type of insult to them personally.
b) are embarrassed by their last actions on the board and don't have the guts to face up to it, or
c) this just isn't the right place for them.
I can understand c, as its the same reason I don't frequent other boards, and b I can understand to an extent. We had a fairly recent occurance of this.
On the other hand, a is the most frequent and the one I get the least. I've been moderated on a multitude of occassions, both before I joined the staff and since, and I clearly get that its not personal. No one sits around plotting to moderate someone so they leave. Nine times out of ten, we moderate someone and they say, "Oops. I lost my head for a bit" and its over and done with. That tenth time though, is nuts.
I say, "In this post you did this, which is against this rule. Please refrain from this behaviour in the future. Thanks and happy posting." and I get, "you idiot. member X did action y in 2006 and no one said anything to him. You just hate me and are power tripping in order to try to be important."
I don't mean to break one of our most important rules and get off-topic (see, it happens to everyone), but I just want everyone to know that we do most of our work behind closed doors, so just because someone broke a rule and we didn't post something publicly, does not mean that it was not dealt with. We've got a pretty professional bunch of volunteers, and our only goal is to make this a good experience for everyone. If you break a rule, we'll deal with it. If the next time, someone else breaks a rule towards you, we will deal with that as well.
This has been a public service announcement from THN. We now return you to your regularly schedule thread.
