That's actually the perfect team for Campbell to break in against. Think about it.
Would you prefer he starts against the Eagles, for instance? Because if our o-line got absolutely dominated tonight, I hate to think what the Eagles d-line (which is very, VERY impressive) is going to do to us...

All these comparisons to Brady, Culpepper, and Rothlesbeger--all quarterbacks going in early and winning. . .yet I can't help but also think of the name Patrick Ramsey.

I am must be really missing something here, so I just want to know, explain how does Brunell give us the best chance to win now, is it his arm strength, decision making, accuracy, leadership, what is it. Because I can't see it, but I have been hearing this all offseason and I just want to know what it is.

PRAM won that Jets game today right? Isn't he starting?

So wait, are you saying that we should find a QB with OVER a 50% passer rating?

Sorry. I couldn't log on during the game.
Right now I'm reading too much loser speak on this board. It's 2 games, and there are 14 remaining. I'll say it. Mark STILL gives us the best chance to win.
There were far more problems than at QB tonight, though it was great to see the defense rise to the occasion against Dallas (T.OWWW. did nothing against the Skins, but then again, what's new?)
THey just gotta get out there and keep working hard. Mark and the rest of the offense will get it right.
A lotta people jumpin' off the #8 car this early in the season???? I may have to revive my tailgate for #8 thread.

I realize it's only week two with a new offense to learn and all of that, but we got our butts kicked tonight.
I'm still trying to figure out what has happened to our O-line? It's pathetic, Brunell has no time to throw the ball. I'm not taking up for Brunell, because he looked awful tonight, but our O-line is downright pathetic. Even when he did have time to throw it wasn't impressive.
And what has happened to the defense? I realize springs is out, but our front four had no pass rush. Bledsoe was back there calling his mom and asking her who to throw it to.
I'm not panicking yet, but some things need to change rather quickly if our boys want to make the playoffs.

I'm still an apologist for Mark.
There have been now at least 3 times in the last 3 years that "Dump Brunell" threads have absolutely ruled this board. I've never had much to say, but the first 2 times that this has happened Brunell has come back and proven himself. I simply think that there's no reason why he can't do it again.

Any chance we could get some reasoning for that statement? Is it perhaps his wonderful accuracy? His great decision making and poise perhaps? Perhaps its his great mobility in the face of a non-existent Oline?

It's 2 games
Its 2 games (both in conference and 1 was a divisional game) out of 16 this year...
Its 2 games...
Plus 4 preseason games
Plus the Seahawk game in the playoffs last year
Plus the Tampa Game in the playoffs last year
Plus the last regular season game last year.
Except for a few games in the middle of the seaosn and Moss' YAC he didn't light the league on fire ya know??
Throw in the entire 2004 season and what do we have? A older QB who can still play at a marginal level for a starting QB and a guy we spent 3 draft picks on (including this years 1rst - instead of picking up quality D-lineman or O-lineman with the pick) riding the bench and not getting anywhere near the field.
Peyton played early
Eli played early
Marino, Roethlesberger, Culpepper, etc... played early... lets see what we invested so much value in and get the youngster out there already !!!
You might disagree with me...that is fine. Mark may still get us to the playoffs... I'll take that as well. But from what I've seen the past 8 straight games, its time for JC to do what we expected him to do when we traded so much for him.

OMG.....he has only comeback once, and that only lasted until about 2 games BEFORE the playoffs. I liked the guy in J'ville, but he is just too old now. After all, it was his birthday and that's the best he could do?
NO WAY does he give us our best chnace to win. He is a very valuble BACKUP QB, but no longer a starting caliber QB.
Bring in Campbell against Houston. How much more of a creampuff to gain experiance AND confidence against? If he stinks up the joint, then he may not be what we all hope we thought he would be.
It's time to move towards the future, and the future is NOW.

Too much wallowing and "woe is us" statements on the board. It's not so muh in defense of Mark alone, but for the team in general.
We lost. Bad. We got our butts handed to us.
Howeveer, confidence still remains in the pedigree of the players, coaches and staff on this team. THis team is being built for the long-run of the ENTIRE season. It's too bad we're more than eager to throw them under the bandwagon after two less than stellar performances.
Y'all can dwell on the lesser points, as there are many. I choose to hold on to the bright spots in the game, as there were more than last week.

A passer rating of 26 and people still think that Brunell gives us the best chance to win? HAHHAHAHAA. I really did need a good laugh after this game.

I want to be an apologist too, but his performance tonight was horrible! We need someone that can throw the long ball. There was no time tonight that I felt a "play" would happen. I think Brunell's 'magic' is done......

Again, these exact words could have been from a post that is 2+ years old. I'm going to wait and see what happens. Perhaps Gibbs benches Brunell this week.
If he doesn't, that's conclusive evidence (along with what I've seen of Brunell, Collins, and Campbell) to me that Brunell gives us our best chance to win now.

Cut him some slack. He was probably coming to grips with turning 36. How would you feel if the young "studs"in your office atarted ragging on you on YOUR 36th b-day, when you struggle to understand the manual to the new all-in-one, printer/copier/fax/scanner/cappucinomaker/washer&dryer
in the office? Just some food for thought.

True - you just never know who's going to be a quality NFL QB until he plays
in the NFL - being elite in college means nothing. There have been so many famous QB busts I'm not even going to bother listing them. I freely admit that I haven't the slightest idea if JC can really carry this team, either next week or long term. But I do know this:
1. Brunell isn't getting it done. He's actually 13-15
as a starter, so I don't get why some people are so strong on him. Sure, last year he was solid at times, but he also showed he can be maddeningly inconsistent. And he's only getting older.
2. We'll never know on Campbell until we play him. Benching a no. 1 pick for two years in a row is a waste of a draft pick, pure and simple. I can't think of a single player from the first round of '05 who's played less than JC has. Even Aaron Rogers has had some playtime.

Randle El and Moss didn't look very happy with Boonell tonight. I wonder how long until that becomes an issue.

Hmm, no, we're not throwing the team under the bus, just the starting QB. And really, we're not advocating throwing him under the bus, just to the bench. Forgive us for thinking a 26 passer rating isn't quite good enough to make it for the "long run."
The questions at the beginning of the season started with Brunell, and went to a lessor extent to the Secondary and Oline. I've seen nothing so far to indicate a change in these questions. The big problem is Brunell, followed by the Oline and secondary. Hopefully the Oline is just confused, but Brunell's problem appears more permanent.

More bright spots than last week? How many points did our O score this week? How many last week?
How many points did we give up last week? How many this week?
WAKE UP and take off your blinders.

I agree with benching Brunell. Campbell could'nt do any worse than Mark did tonight. And the O line didn't get it done, but, when an offense has nothing working, defensive linemen have a big advantage.
And lets not forget defense.......you remember defense right? Well, last year on Monday night we still would have lost if we scored only 10 points. (3 points minus the return)
Bottom line is that we lost on both sides.....pitful offense, and poor defense.......
And I'm sick of the excuses which reads the same week in and week out. The highest paid coaching staff in the NFL has some "splainin'" to do. Sometime, I'd like to hear Gibbs get angry instead of this same lame ass group hug crap.
Why even do post game interviews when it's the same line over and over "Well, I can't put my finger on any one thing....we're all together....we just have to fight our way out of this.....I'm proud of our guys.....they faught their guts out..." yada yada yada.
Yeah, right. 3 freaking stinking points on offense. FEEL THE POWER!

Sorry man, but I've already turned 36 and could care a less. It doesn't change the way I do my job at all. your food for thought sucks and should be thrown out with our garbage, Brunell.
