Talk about the Washington Football Team here. Do you bleed burgundy and gold?

Change our minds which way? Seems like Clinton is still hinting at missing the game, based on that interview.

Sorry I was referencing the group that said he will definitely play and that this is all just a smoke screen.

I personally think we are going to be ok if he doesn't play. We'd be better with him but we'll have a decent run game without.

Ah, got it. I know that this might be a smoke-screen, but I doubt it. Too early in the season for such mind games right now. I don't expect to see Portis on Monday night, but I think Betts/Duckett can carry the load without too much of a loss of production. Of course, it will be up to Brunell to make the passing game productive enough that the Vikes defense has to respect it.

From the AP...

ASHBURN, Va. -- Redskins running back Clinton Portis is targeting Washington's second game for his return from a shoulder injury.

He essentially ruled himself out for the Monday night opener against the Minnesota Vikings. He wore a helmet and his No. 26 jersey during the entire practice Friday for the first time since partially dislocating his left shoulder four weeks ago, but said he was focusing on the upcoming games against Dallas and Houston.

"The way things look, bro, you'll probably be seeing 2-6 against Dallas," Portis said. "But who knows? If not, I should be ready for Houston. They want me to be 100 percent."

Portis said he has had no full contact on his shoulder, which he hurt making a tackle in the preseason opener against Cincinnati.

"I tried to show coach that I still had it, but I don't think he fell for it," said Portis, who rushed for a franchise-record 1,516 yards last season. "I tried to hit the bag, but it was wet, so it didn't make me look too good."

Portis, who rushed for a franchise-record 1,516 yards last season, has started 31 of 32 games since joining the Redskins in 2004. Ladell Betts, who started the game Portis missed, is expected to start Monday.

Betts is not Portis.

But, last time we played the Vikings, Betts had about 120 iirc.

Let's not worry about Portis in week 1, we need the stud fit for the long haul, vikes are just a pebble in our way. Let the man rest for a full showing in week 2.

You can't look past anybody in the NFL. I predict a tough game if our players think they can.

I thought the same thing about Oakland last season and that didn't turn out too well, did it?

Fans have that luxury, players don't. It's the coaches' job to make sure they don't.
