Ignore the problem, it will go away.

Talk about the Washington Football Team here. Do you bleed burgundy and gold?

Welcome back, welch!

I love these threads. Anything to get me fired up about the season. . .

This team is going to make its mark yet again. Portis - 1500+ yds, Brunell - 3000+ yds 25 tds, Moss - 1600 yds. 11 tds, etc. Washington - 4 QBs knocked out of a game.

Just to be clear, I hope we don't get in the trap of thinking that anyone has a concern is somehow dropping out of being a true skins fan. That's just silly.

Whether or not the skins to good or not this year, chances are that anyone who actually spends the energy to register on a skins discussion forum is probably a die hard fan, and will be so even if they win or lose. Some, however, get frustrated early - such is life.

That said, while I still think we'll have a good year, I have some real concerns about the beginning of the season. I think the poor execution on offense is a sign that they are probably confused with the new and very complicated offense. Its not that our people have forgotten how to play, or that they aren't talented - they're probably just a tad overwhelmed. This does not portend well for the first half of the season.

I also am not thrilled to see Brunell come down with nagging leg and groin injuries. This REALLY concerns me, as his throwing and decision making seem to go the way of the health of his legs.

Our special teams looks very special in the "PC" use fo the term. Truly, they look horrid. I simply see nothing positive there - this is all the more surprising based on how well we generally did last season.

And really, I don't see how anyone who has watched the preseason games at this point can't not be concerned. The skins have just stunk up the joint. This does not mean the season is lost, yada yada, but it does mean there are some serious problems that need addressing.

Can Gibbs and company take care of them? I'm sure they can, and am still predicing an opening day win, but truly, I'da felt better had they not been in this position with a few weeks left to go.

"We have been basically game-planning one day a week for our opponents. Obviously, I could have changed that. We could have done a lot earlier in the week. I think that I could have made [different] decisions on each practice, how we go about it, how hard to practice, how easy, whether we have pads or whether we don't," Gibbs said. "So I think it starts with me. I need to do the job of analyzing myself. We're in a tough situation having lost three games the way we did. And so hopefully as we evaluate the team it will be the same for each player."

Gibbs, from today's WPost. Starts by taking the responsibility on himself., and then challenges the players to play to his level. The same Joe Gibbs said the same 25 years ago when the team lost the first five regular season games.

Along the lines of "ignore the problem and it will go away"... isn't that what Gibbs did after last season with kicking game? Kickoffs aren't any better and Frost is just as inconsistant, yet we brought in no real offseason competition. Now the 'skins are looking at veteran kickers to come in...

I agree that it would have been good to address this in the offseason. Gibbs has always been hardpressed to change out kickers, but usually once he makes the decision, the guy is gone. Lets hope we're there now with Frost. It would be hard to get worse than he's been and moving Frost out would send a nice message to the rest of the team.
