[I wouldn't actually even expect Betts to get that much work in the preseason as he's coming back from that hammy injury. I think Jesse's going to get a lion's share of the carries against the Jets and this will be a real opportunity for him to show that he belongs on this team.
I can't wait to see him play this weekend. I know he's going to show he really belongs here!

Portis legitimately injured his shoulder when he made that tackle. From the replays, you could clearly see that his momentum at the time he made the tackle was towards the sideline. Additionally, the db, on seeing Portis in front of him, made a move to the inside (CP's left). This put exactly the kind of forces on his left shoulder that would cause a subluxation, or worse. On the other hand, it could be much less, as well.
On returning to the field, Portis' arm was not immobilized. He was moving it spontaineously, with no guarding or wincing. Typically, an individual who has just suffered a shoulder injury assumes a posture with the arm resting across the abdomen, as if in a sling. It's almost automatic. However, Portis not only didn't do that, but was moving his arm, apparently without concern. He was smiling, and appeared to be joking around... Fast forward a few minutes.... Portis is on the sideline trainers table, having an arm immobilizer applied. His mood is now down.
If the injury was of concern, why was an immobilizer not applied immediately following the x-ray and initial MRI? What, exactly did he find amusing on returning to the field. Was the application of the immobilizer on national tv for theatrical purposes? Did the "great sandbagger" see an opportunity, and sieze it? Is this the final step in the return of Joe Gibbs?
Who shot JR?
Y'all have fun, now... ya hear?

Here my take, as a player who had a subluxation from football that eventually resulted in reconstructive surgery.
Now mind you, I was playing free safety in college, so from a physical standput, they don't really compair. But I do know that I was back to playing after one weeks rest (thank goodness it was an off week and I didn't miss a game) and I had the surgery in the offseason. Ultimately, it will depend on how much the ligament was stretched and how strong his shoulder muscles are or are developed in rehab.
Based on his action upon returning to the field (didn't look like it hurt too much. I know mine did) and four week off with world class trainers, I'll bet he'll be just fine for the first half of the season. Beyond that, well, I'd say he'll have just as good a chance of having other problems to deal with.
So to answer the conspirancy question, he's injured, but it's not that bad and he'll be pretty close to 100% by week 1.

I recall from watching you 2 weeks later, that you were still carrying your arm across your abdomen when resting (a sure sign of a shoulder injury). That was my point when I noted that Portis was not doing that. I do think your injury was more severe, and, yet, you finished the season before you had your surgery. Plus, you were playing safety, and still making tackles left and right, even with your injury, and STILL made all conference. For you, the question was "how much pain are you willing to play with". I'm pretty sure that Portis has already answered that question as well.
I agree... Portis will be just fine. If he doesn't play vs Minnesota, it will be because we don't need him, not because he can't.

And to add fuel to an already hilarious fire, did anyone notice when they were interviewing Santana Moss at half-time of the game, the chick that was interviewing him said "Santana, Joe Gibbs has ordered the injured players not to speak to the press about their injuries, but what do you think it is"? Santana was a team player and said CP will be ready on 9/11.
