Actually, not in excess IMHO.

Hognostication-challenged, Hognosti-challenged? What should the new term be? :hmm:

Well, if I wasn't English, and if I was making predictions purely on the basis of performances so far at this tournament, I'd be strongly tempted to predict an Ecuador victory - they have played better than England so far. But I am backing England in the knowledge of what our players can do, if only they throw off the shackles that they seem to be carrying with them at the moment. Every World Cup, we do see one really good performance from England (sadly, no more than that!), and tonight really should be it.

But...

It hasn't been so far. They have overmatched Ecuador in the midfield and in England's end, but there offense is non-existent.

That, and Beckham seem to be the worst of the bad.

Out of shape, gasping for air, diving theatrically after every contact with an opponent (not that other teams such as Italy and Argentina do not relish on it either).

Next time, I will have the courage to Hognosticate a loss for them -regardless- of whom they play against. I relied on them based on individual brilliance and it paid off. But it will not pay against better opposition or rather opposition who will play with a more aggressive mental attitude.

Not happy at all. I am beginning to sound... English! Oh dear! Oh dear!

Do not worry. The two posters that had perfect records just lost for the first time today.

With the exception of Germany-Sweden and England-Ecuador, any other match in this round could have (and perhaps should have) really gone either way.

I haven't really got a clue about these quarter final match-ups. Only Italy seem like a lock to win this time. You could make an argument for any of the other teams to get to the final, let alone the semis.

That being said, I have read the magic tea leaves, and come up with these winners:

Argentina
Brazil
England
Italy

And that would be as mouthwatering a semi final line-up as there has ever been.

I will do the stats late. Please post your Hognostications for the semi-finals now:

Italy v. Germany
Portugal v. France

Not that it matters one way or another anymore because I dislike all four teams but it is like this:

Germany (more players (14) on the field)
Portugal (better bad comedians (11) on the field)

Football? What football? It is the revival of German nationalism, histrionics and bad theater that matter. I am not watching anymore but I will try to keep the stats just as a matter of discipline to the end.
