2nd round, 2007 draft (=85th pick, 165 points)
TOTAL: 540 points

To the Jets for:
2nd round, No. 35 (550 points)

Now that might just be the most useful and insightful post ive seen in this thread. Can all of you pessimist just stop trying to be our front office and sit back and watch. Its all of the same people who were bitching last year that we wasted draft picks, our front office has no clue what they are doing and then we go 10-6. If you want off the bus, get off, ive heard for two weeks now, that Rocky was high on the list of lb's and it doesn't surprise me that we have another guy from ......THE U. 212 tackles k and 8 sacks in two years from a lb???? and he stinks or is not worth that pick???? COme on people.

Not quite, I just call things how I see it. I still/always have had gripes with our front office. I dont agree with the decisions to build through the draft but I see his philosophy. Whats bothering me is that when we do use the draft that we seem to always be the ones getting screwed in our deals.

I dont pin this all on Gibbs, sure he's the face of the team but plenty of peolpe had their hands in the cookie jar. We know Danny was there, Mr Yes-Man and Gregg Williams.

Really? A made-up statistic provides insight?

A 10-6 record shouldn't give the front office a free pass on draft decisions. Blindly trusting Gibbs as a coach is one thing, but in case you've forgotten, he has zero championships as Team President.

I'd rather have Hodge and our 2 next year than Rocky even tho I do think hes gonna be good.

We gave up the 64th pick next year
to move up 18 spots to 35.

Hodge is a MLB though.

Marshall can play outside. He played OLB until last year.


I am actually really high on Mcintosh I think hes gonna be a borderline Pro Bowler...i just cant shake the feeling that we gave up way too much. Again.

I know Marshall would be great as OLB, but do you really want a late second round rookie starting the most important position on our D?

The Redskins advanced 18 spots in the second round of Saturday's NFL draft, then selected the player they wanted the most -- University of Miami linebacker Rocky McIntosh.

Gibbs had all along felt that McIntosh wouldn't be available at No. 53, and he become especially antsy once Houston and Cleveland opened the second round by choosing linebackers at Nos. 33 and 34.

Relax. The sky is NOT falling. I actually don't mind this, simply because the Skins traded up to pick a player with a productive college career, who has a tremendous work ethic, who is versatile. He's also extremely athletic. How is this a bad thing? They were sure he was going to be gone...so if you really like the guy, why not snag him?

This is what ESPN had to say about it:

LaVar Arrington is gone, Warrick Holdman is inconsistent, at best, and Nic Clemons shouldn't be playing an every-down role. That makes outside linebacker a clear need, and Washington did well to add McIntosh.

Mcintosh is a good player but we gave up too much in the draft. We never have any picks, I don't like that.

Hey, what were (prior to the draft) the prognostications for what round (early second, etc.) this guy would likey be drafted? I'd be interested to see this from a variety of sources.

That's because the Eagles stockpile picks and don't trade them away like we do.

Sure we gave up a lot to get Macintosh but there is no way that he was going to be there at 53. And while it would be nice to have that 6th rounder and next year's 2nd, I don't think that is that much to give up for a guy that is most likely going to be our starting WLB. Macintosh is a superior player than Hodge so I don't think that is as bad as some are making it out to be.

I don't mind the move and if Gibbs believes Rocky was not going to be there and loves the guy, you make the move. There are no guarantees for this draft and next year's draft and they have to go. And if people are worried about a 6 round pick, remember there is the undrafted free agency Gibbs said is his favorite part of the draft.

The more I read about this guy the more I start to really like him.

I love the player we got. He was the guy I wanted all along.

I just hate the fact that we gave up our 2 next year to do it.

I like the pick actually... but heres a little more info...

Gil Brandt's Analysis
He is a very, very good linebacker. He played in a great system, and at this point, he was the best linebacker available in the draft. It looks like they might have paid a lot for him, but it was worth it to get the guy they wanted.

Pat Kirwan: In two years, he had 200 tackles (23 for a loss) and nine sacks. I think he is one of the finest special-teams players in the draft. He will make an immediate impact on special teams and a few defensive packages. He defines toughness



McIntosh quickly flashed his athleticism and consistently made plays all over the field. He is a very quick, smooth athlete who plays very well behind the line of scrimmage and can adjust to make plays out in space. He has the quick burst off acceleration and playing speed to catch fast running backs in pursuit before they can turn the corner on outside runs. He has the playing speed to cut behind blockers and chase down plays from behind. His versatility is what makes McIntosh so valuable because he will be a force against the run at him, runs away and in all types of pass coverage. He needs to bulk up and add 10-15 pounds to play stronger at point of attack and must improve his use of hands vs. low blocks in order to move through traffic well in the NFL. Overall, McIntosh is the type of linebacker who often gets a little overlooked because he is slightly undersized and does not make a lot of big, flashy plays, but in the end, he is going to develop into a very good all-around linebacker who can stay on the field for all three downs and is consistently productive vs. the run and the pass.

Guess what, next year we'll trade a 2008 draft pick to get that second round pick back if their's really someone there we need. and that goes for the year after that and the year after that. Don't worry about it. The Skins will be fine and so will Rocky. Relax

Thank goodness we did not draft a corner like some people were saying we could, we do not need one. OLB was the obvious need and we got it.

Gibbs is obviously a great coach but the front office routinely gets schooled in the draft because of the skins unwillingness to "stockpile" picks leading to little maneuverability and impact.

Schooled? I think it's a different approach. The Skins prefer signing free agents to draft picks.

I mean Mario Williams' contract is bigger than Osi Umenyiora's with the Giants. That's *f$ck* crazy.
