I second that motion!!
No wait a second.
Are we talking about Patrick Pamsey here?
Patrick Ramsey the QB that the Jets only wanted to give up a 7th round pick forr last week?
or are we talking about
Patrick Ramsey the QB that everyone knew would be cut for cap space just 2 weeks ago.
I was thinking about Patrick Ramsey the QB that didn't have a spot on this team and would have been cut sooner or later, either way it would have been before the start of training camp.
What we got was a 6th rd pick when we might have gotten nothing

Well it looks like the handling of the situation didn't go un-noticed according to Big Lenny:
"Ramsey started the '05 season opener, was pulled in favor of Brunell at halftime, and didn't log another start the rest of the season. The poor handling of the situation contributed to the fact that Washington had to settle for far less in Friday's trade."
"A year or two ago, when it became obvious that Gibbs' staff wasn't enamored of Ramsey, the Redskins would almost certainly have commanded a higher price for the former Tulane star. But Washington failed to pull the trigger on a deal, when agent Jimmy Sexton could have brought them several suitors. Gibbs sold Ramsey on the notion he would compete for the starting job, then went out and invested a 2005 first-round pick on Auburn quarterback Jason Campbell."
Patrick handled it with grace and it looks like he has a good chance of being rewarded for it if Pennington is not ready. I hope he blows up in NY, not because he was done wrong here but because he is a good kid that deserves a shot....

My buddy is a Jets fan. There are reports out of Jetsville that say they pulled this trade to package Ramsey and Abraham in a trade for Matt Schaub. He's not buying it, nor am I but that's a report that's out there.

P-Ram to Jets is done. Hopefully, he wins the starting job. I'd like to see him do well up her in the NJ/NY area.

Was he pulled or was he replaced and left on the bench for the rest of the game? Lenny isn't stating the facts as usual. How was the situation handle poorly, Gibbs did what was best for the Washington Redskins. The fact that we had to keep Ramsey as a backup is the only reason his value has gone down.

Ramsey did compete for the starting job, in fact if I remember correctly he went into the season as the starter. He understood the offense but made bad decisions, but wasn't as mobile as Brunell. To get injuried in the first game didn't help. The competetion was so close, once Mark got under center. Done Deal

I agree Patrick handled the backup roll correctly just as would would have handled the role of starter had Mark went down.
Chad is done and Ramsey will get his shot with his favorite receiver

You know, I thought we got screwed at first too... but maybe we have a LB (or another player) out there ready to sign and we need the cap room...

Very good point. I believe we save about $1.7 million on this.

FWIW, the situation was handled pretty poorly, the Skins could have gotten a GOOD deal for Ramsey and signed another QB to be a backup last season.

Ramsey started the '05 season opener, was pulled in favor of Brunell at halftime, and didn't log another start the rest of the season. The poor handling of the situation contributed to the fact that Washington had to settle for far less in Friday's trade. Even at a reduced rate, though the Redskins likely had to deal Ramsey or release him, since he had finally become frustrated by his status. The Redskins also needed the salary cap space that Ramsey's departure gives them.

That is becuse you don't scrap a season to increase trade value. How much of a difference would Ramsey have made as the starter? We'll never know. In my opinion, with Ramasey in that dallas game the skins loose 13-0. Pat has the tendency to really gun the ball when he gets pressured. It's like he's trying to win a javalin contest

. I honestly think if Chad Pennington's shoulder is 100% well. Pat will be the back up QB.

Once Culpepper went for a 2nd rounder I hoped we'd be fortunate and get a 4th or 5th - but no such luck. Best wishes Patrick, and I hope the NY fans don't eat you alive...

Think of it this way. The Skins were looking to deal Ramsey and some additonal player or draft pick to the Jets for Abraham. Now The Skins have lost Ramsey but they have Andre Carter and a 6th round draft pick. Besides do you think Abraham is going to sign s $31 million contract? Try 50 - 60.

Hold that dial, guys. Maybe you ought to wish him luck somewhere else.
I have an UNCONFIRMED report here at work that says the Jets have turned around and sent Ramsey and Abraham to the ATL for Matt Schaub and a #2.
Smart move if indeed true

Either it has or it hasn't. No going involved.
I wouldn't call it a "blockbuster", more likely I'd call it a "rare smart move by Gang Green"

ATLANTA -- In their marathon pursuit of New York Jets three-time Pro Bowl defensive end John Abraham, the Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks have each reached the halfway point of the grueling race.
But they are different halves and, unfortunately for both suitors, they're still a long way from the finish line in trying to land Abraham.
The Falcons on Friday reached an agreement with Abraham on a multi-year contract, a high-ranking team official and several league sources confirmed. The next step: Reaching a trade agreement with the Jets on appropriate compensation for the standout defender.
Seattle, conversely, has finished the second half of the equation, but not the first. Sources involved in the trade negotiations confirmed Friday evening that the Seahawks and Jets have agreed on a compensation package, but that Seattle has not reached an accord with Abraham on a contract. As part of the package, the Seahawks would surrender their first-round choice in the 2006 draft, the 31st pick overall.
The vexing problem is that, to secure Abraham, both halves of the puzzle must fit. The team that acquires Abraham must satisfy his contract demands and also the Jets' compensation desires. And neither Atlanta nor Seattle has been able to pull together both elements yet.

I just heard John Clayton say on espn news that both Atlanta and Seattle both think that they have the trade done for Abraham. Seattle is offering their 1st round pick at #31. Atlanta can't match that.

Dude that is way too much for Matt Schaub only a moron would put that deal together. Are you kidding me Ramsey,Abraham and a number 2 for just Matt Schaub Lmao If they are dumb enough to agree to that deal then they diserve all the bad luck theyre gonna get.
