I agree. If McCune had the potential to step into a starting spot this soon, he have played more than just five games on special teams. If the replacement comes in-house, it will be Holdman.

I think we'll be fine. No one thought Antonio Pierce or Lemar Marshall were anything more than unproven backups, and look how well they played for us.
I just find it amazing how on one hand people will complain about our CAP situation and then turn around and want an overpriced player that plays a position that isn't our greatest concern.

There will be a lot of big name players on the market if no CBA is signed, they will be on the market because teams can not pay them the big money they are currently making. So if these players want to play football they will have to sign a cap friendly deal, well below the CURRENT market value. You will see some top level guys playing for the minimum. That is when we can try to make deal for a player like Ray Lewis, Willie McGinest, or Julian Peterson all expected to be released. (or) Maybe this is just wishfull thinking on my part.

If what you say is true than I stand corrected. However, I dont agree with bringing him here regardless.
Lawson as a replacement for Arrington?

With Lavar out of the picture, could we use our 2nd rounder to scoop up Manny Lawson? He played DE at NC State, but he ran a rediculous 4.43 at the combine and is probably going to play outside LB. Do we get a hybrid guy like this, have him play WLB and rush off the end on 3rd down situations? I think the possibilities are endless and he would be a steal if he fell to 53.

Holdman is still here and clearly the coaches are comfy with him filling in. Remeber? Lavar was on the bench and coaches were clearly content with it.
Ray Ray isn't coming to DC.
Holdman was terrible last season. The only impact he had on the field was a negative one. He constantly got caught up inside and failed to keep containment and that led to huge runs on his side of the field. He isn't big, he isn't fast, and he has no ability to shed a block. If he has to start for an entire season our D is in some trouble. Just look at his performances as a starter last season before Lavar came back. I don't know who Lavar's replacement will be but I hope it isn't somebody from our current roster because I don't have any confidence in Holdman, McCune, or Clemons as every down linebackers.

Thats fine, I respect your opinin. Just understand my point. There where people who echoed your same sentiments about Antonio and Lemar. Lemar actually got it twice in a row. Once for filling in for Lavar and again for filling in for Antonio.
So please excuse me for believe that we have a more than capable backup in our depth chart. Neither of those two players lit it up as backups. We'll never know how good a guy is till he gets on the field full-time.

I see what you're saying but the difference is that Lemar actually performed well when he was used as a replacement, whereas Holdamn didn't. Hopefully someone steps up and can fill the position adequatly.

Anyone can be replaced and we will now have the opportunity to replace a player with another that will hopefully not cost us as much (for so little recently) and will be a better fit.
We now have coaches who seem to be more interested in making a decent team with players without prior reputations. I hope we continue to do this and all the stars go and waste someone elses' money.
Arrington actually helped the team more financialy by doing this than if he had renegotiated and stayed. He may also have helped us out at this position too, only time will tell. He was a force but it was time to move on in separate directions.

All choices and possibilities at replacing Lavar mean little right now in the ABSENCE of a CBA. I will return with a prediction in this thread depending on the oucome of negotiations to be held over the next 72 hours (now less).

Chris Clemons is my guess. There are some upper echelon guy sout there, but I think Clemons will win this job in training camp.

yeh. why not?...dont be "stupid", there's other forums for "that".
anyway, instead of spending all our money on a LB to replace Arrington, why not just stick with the original plan and get a proven #2 WR, "like Isaac Bruce". Arrington will be missed by the fans, but with G. William's style of defense, we can stick anyone at that spot and still be one of the top ranked D's in the NFL. We did it last year. Ray Ray's not gonna be here guys so stop dreaming.

When you make a post with no sustenance how do you expect people to know what you're talking about? How about an entire sentence next time?

He's trying to keep the thread on topic. This thread is about Arrington's replacement, there are other threads about our options at WR.

Cmon Jake, tell me you didn't want to see Lavar in the Maroon and Gold for his career. To me he has been the face of this team since 2000. Im going to miss him, positionally yes he can be replaced, but its going to be hard to replace him on the sidelines.

I would like to replace LaVar with Robert McIntosh from the U. He is extremely athletic and should come off the board late in the 3rd or early 4th.

Guys, there are other options than Holdman, Clemons, McCune or Ray Lewis. A lot of young experienced talent got released this past week at Linebacker.
Me personally, I think a guy like shawn barber would be a good fit. Him or Jamie Sharper would be an inexpensive replacement that could fill in well. Then you have players like Chris Claiborne, Nai'll Digs, and even Brandon Short who could add depth. Plus, if we want to dish out cash we could pay Julian Peterson or Will Witherspoon. There are tons of guys out there to replace arrington for FAR less, and some of them would play just as well. I love arrington, he was one of my top 5 favorite players on the team, but i'm glad he's gone because it makes our team better by being able to spend money in other much needed spots

I think that our first priorities should be getting a good pass rushing DE and a solid #2 WR because we already have 2 solid guys at LB with Marshall and Washington

G. Williams did really great with Holdman, didn't he? And look at all the success he had with our aging Harris. Face it, my friend. Even Williams must have the horses, and we don/t have the horse we need to replace Arrington. We did not just get stronger by substitution. We just experienced a blow, and we can't afford even one.

Are you on suicide watch??? I mean Free Agency hasn't started yet and you are complaining that we can't replace Arrington?? How in the heck do you expect us to replace him the same day he's released and FA and the draft have not happened yet.
We have a plan, and the plan has proved you wrong so many times you would think you would learn how to be patient sometimes.

Arrington is an incredibly skilled player, but he has trouble staying in the system and being a cog in the machine.
