I can understand the thinking behind this thread. However, I watched the Indy-Pittsburgh game again last night, and Wayne made some incredible plays. Imagining him lined up opposite Moss gives me goosebumps, as I'm sure it would to many defensive coordinators. The argument is that he won't want to come here because he wants to be a no. one receiver somewhere. My answer would be, 'Have you seen how often Moss was doubleteamed?' If that continued, Wayne would have his way with the secondary (assuming Brunell sees him). I could see both Moss and Wayne putting up 1000 yard plus years.

This fits right into what I've been reading about Al Saunders' offense. He looks deep early to set up the running game later. With Moss and Wayne, you can challenge the secondary early, and open holes for Portis on draws and delays.

The cap is a problem. If we're really $15 mil over, I don't know how you free up room to sign any FA, let alone get under the cap enough to sign draft picks. If it's depth you're looking for on the O and D lines, I would expect that to come rather cheap. If you're looking for second and third stringers to fill in when needed, I think you can sign them for short money and Wayne for large money (assuming the cap space is there). If by 'depth' you mean a qaulity pass rushing end, I agree that you can't have both Wayne and an end. I would opt for Wayne, as we have evidence that Williams can make it work without an end, but Gibbs cannot make it work without a receiver opposite Moss (Patten is a number three, no more).

All this is meaningless, however,if we can't get under the cap without gutting the team. LA needs to restructure, and we need to make some smart cuts.

Why even entertain the notion that the Redskins love Hurricanes?

What's the basis? That they have three of them? So did the Colts and 49ers to start the season...

Colts: Reggie Wayne, Edgerrin James and Joaquin Gonzalez.

49ers: Frank Gore, Ken Dorsey, and Mike Rumph.

It couldn't possibly be just because the Hurricanes have over 30 players in the NFL and turn out some pretty good talent could it?

We have 3 guys from Wisconsin too... Casey Rabach, Cory Raymer and John Hall.

We have FOUR guys from Georgia ... Philip Daniels, Demetric Evans and the Clemons brothers.

... and we have 4 guys from Auburn, Marcus Washington, Jason Campbell, Carlos Rogers and Robert Johnson

So hopefully someone from Miami, Wisconsin, Georgia or Auburn can come up with that cure for cancer you were looking for. :roll:

Back on the topic of the thread then shall we? Reggie Wayne.

I have one word that summizes why we will not see Reggie Wayne in the B&G in my opinion...

Cap.

We have too many other small holes to fill to try and fill a #2 receiver need with a top tier free agent splash signing... especially without much salary cap money.

While Id love to have Wayne here and I feel he'd definately take us over the top in regards to the need at WR, we could get by with a less stellar guy as long as he is productive.

We only need someone who when Moss is double can still make the catch. We only need someone who can convert that big 3rd down for us. This guy will continuously show up for us and eventually will need to be paid attention to.

Heck, David Patten garnered attention purely based off his play in NE. He didn't do a darn thing as a Skin so far but at least he kept the heat off of Moss.

Yes, Patten is no star #2 wideout, but he gets the job done. And that's all we're asking of him.

I don't want Wayne either, it will be to much money for a #2. I really think they'll resign him. They mentioned it on a show the other day that more then likely he will resigning with the colts.

No. He doesn't do everything I typed. He wasn't a reliable target. He proved to me this season that there was a reason he was the #3 WR. He consistently got pushed around by DB's and never fought for position. He is at best a #3 WR. Yes, he garners a bit of attention but how long will that last if he consistently doesn't produce.

He one good play in 2005 and that was the pass interference he drew from the Eagles DB at the goaline.
