simply great news... what more can any skins fan ask for right now? he's only 47 and is learning from the greatest football coach ever. hopefully he's here for the rest of his career... he's great!
May #21 never be worn again by another Redskin but may every Redskin play like they are wearing #21 on their backs.

Well, I can definitely declare that this is top news. I've had a feeling for a while that, whatever great things the Redskins achieve under Joe Gibbs this time around, they'll go on to even greater things if and when Williams takes over.

I always remember Gibbs used to say that he got a lot of credit for things that really weren't down to him. He knows the importance of having the right assistants in place, and you can bet that he had plenty of words in Mr Snyder's ear about this. If it was down to money, there was never any way that Williams would be allowed to leave. But it's down to more than money - the guy enjoys where he's at, and knows that he'll never have a better opportunity to learn from a master.

On the downside, I guess this might make it more likely that somebody like Blache could leave. With no promotion in sight for him, he may be more likely to go elsewhere.

Truly, these are good times, my friends!

I love it. GW here for three more years and to take over after Gibbs leaves. A coaching staff that is here for several years will really payoff with a Lombardi Trophy in the future.

Niki,

Are you a psychic??? I think that when Coach Gibbs went and got him two years ago, he had a plan in place that he and GW would get this team that much needed stability and then GW would take over as HC after 3-4 years as Def. Coord...

Let's just hope that when he does take over for Joe, he get's more of a shot than Richie Petitbon got.

YES!! Went to church early on Sunday, and prayed for two things to happen, 1. Make the Playoffs, by beating the Iggles... 2. Find a way to keep Williams.

Wow, both answered! Maybe I should pray for a Skins west coast visit next year?

Thank God!

This is sooo huge. No distractions and sends a message to the players that this team (Players and Coaches) is special, so special that it's worth giving up a personal goal.

I hope everyones watching, we are building something very very special!

ANT7088 wrote:..The best thing Snyder & Gibbs did was make him the Assistant, he gets promoted

I think he was "Assistant Head Coach - Defence" last year? I always thought that he was "persuaded" to come here on the basis that he would be given an opportunity to be the HC if everything worked out and also was told that if something else came up he could leave - IF he wanted too!

He was very well paid last year but I think that he wants to stay and it's nice to see him get another pay hike. Great job by Gibbs and Snyder.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Say what! Richie was good (as a player and as an asst.) but he was not in the same situation this guy is. This guy is going to get a team that he and Gibbs will put together, plus I think Gibbs will be here (in the FO) after turning it over to Williams.

CONTINUITY!!

We finally have CONTINUITY. The NFC East is in sooo much trouble next year. We have both sides of the ball steadily improving. #2 WR, DE, DEPTH!!!

Gibbs is showing us he's hear to not occupy a seat, not to make money, but to win a superbowl or two!
