Joe Gibbs comes from a certain cut of people, and those people strictly adhere to the philosophy that you do NOT lose your starting position by injury. If you lose it at all, you lose it by playing poorly, not by injury. It's like that ALL the way across the NFL until Bellichik broke the mold with Tom Brady. While I support whoever he puts in there, he'll put Ramsey in if he's healthy.

Did you here is press conference? He said Brunell looked smoother, even though he knew Ramsey was o.k. to play. Gibbs said he'll decide at the end of the week who will start. Ramsey took way more vicious hits under Spurrier. We did not need a QB controversy this early in the season, certainly not one started by the head coach!!!
This pisses me off!!! Ramsey looked ten times smoother then Brunnell. I mean, he completed some serious third down passes to his recievers. Brunnell just handed the ball to Portis or Betts and said, get me the yardage. This is bullcrud. I'm gonna watch the press conference tonight.....I don't mean to offend you, but I hope its not what you said. I just can't see Gibbs benching Ramsey already, unless he's hurt of course. I just can't see it.

I'm beginning to sense a trend with Ramsey. I think he needs a little time to settle down, feel a little more comfortable, and get into a rythym. It seems like most of his stupid mistakes come early, and then he starts settling down. Yesterday, after he threw the INT, he underthrew a couple of balls, but he started to settle down and had a lot of zip on the ball. He was putting the ball where he needed to and there appeared to be a sense that he was picking up the pace a bit. As time went on he didn't seem rattled, and in fact, seemed to be developing a rythym when he was clotheslined.
I hope the Redskins, if nothing else, send a copy of that play to the league office for review and get some kind of opinion on it. Anybody hear if they're going to do that or not? I'd be interested in hearing the results.

True, Brunell didn't eclipse the 100 yds passing mark, but did anyone else notice that Clinton portis ran for over 100 yds???!!!
Brunell got the team running. With Ramsey out of the game and the "scipt" gone to pieces, Brunell was asked to manage the game, and preserve a victory. He did both well.
He wasn't the starter, so perhaps he wasn't ready to jump right in. Keep in mind, he's almost, like 60 or so, so he didn't have enough time to warm up when Ramsey nearly had his head detached. His early thrwos missed the mark, and later on he was asked to hand the ball off to kill the clock.
Result: Redskins win another opener for Joe Gibbs. Period.
BTW - Was anyone else hootin' and hollerin' when Brunell executed the fake reverse pass to
ey?

please explain to me how a quarterback gets a team 'running'. i've played my fair share, and i understand how some players motivate a team better than others, but i cannot believe that the o-line said 'yes! mark's in the game! NOW i'm gonne really start blocking!'

Why are paople all over Brunell? Ramsey played for one quarter, people. We were 3/5 on 3rd down when he was QB. We were 6-16 on 3rd down for the game, so Brunell converted three 3rd downs in three quarters of play.
And Brunell still doesn't have the arm strength to throw the ball downfield.

I can't explain it, but so far this year, in preseason, and during yesterday's game, the team has run the ball better with Brunell under center. It's baffling, but the team looked more efficient. Perhaps not world beaters, but they eliminated mistakes, and got points on the board, points that eventually won the game for us.

actually, i had ramsey at 3 for 4 throwing on third down (not including fumbles, interceptions or head-romving tackles -- but also not including penalized touchdowns), while brunell was 2 for 5 (not including interceptions nullified by penalty).

i can understand your point. however, there may have been many factors involved. perhaps the time of possession started to catch up with the bears.

What I find amusing after reading all of this is that people were booing Ramsey and cheering when Brunell came in yesterday (at the game). Just like when last year, people were booing Brunell and cheering when Ramsey came in. Get it together, people... I don't care who starts, they need to play well. Whomever starts, Ramsey can't produce 3 turnovers in one quarter of play and Brunnel needs to produce a few more bigger plays. They both stunk it up and need to step up. Our D and Portis saved us yesterday.
I see yesterday as a blessing in disguise - if we blew Chicago out yesterday, we would have gone into Dallas overconfident. Now, we know we have to focus and work hard and fine tune a few things before taking them on.

Excellent points all around, Redskins1974. I thought I heard boos for Brunell when he was comin' in. Of course, FOX may have inserted those in their "live" feed. He he.
You're absolutely right. Thankfully, it was the Bears. I hope we run over the Cowgirls on Monday Night.

Really? where the heck were you during preseason. Brunell had a way higher completion precentage and qb rating

Preseason really shows us how good your qb's are gonna be.....c'mon. Leave preseason out of this discussion

Every qb is gonna make mistakes (fumbles and int's). I don't see how Ramsey did anything to lose the starting job. They had a great drive going until he was injured. Its wayyyy to early to pull the plug on him
