The truth obviously hurts. I don't see too many whites stealing 5 flat screen t.v.'s or 10 pairs of shoes. The truth hurts.

Think a bit. Who lives in New Orleans? By percentage? In a disaster, who got out? Who was left behind when the city flooded? (Hint people with money had the resources to evacuate, temporarily, leaving the poor and helpless). For details, see the quote from Jim Wallis, of Sojourners, at this thread:

I have descriptions of what people went through this week, but all of us who are not morally / spiritually dead have read them, with crushing effect. I hope I don't have to repeat them.

I wonder...you would think that they would if it were a simple matter of writing it off.
It seems that no one wants to give anything away unless the public is made aware of it beforehand.
Maybe they should just put their respective corporate logos on the water bottles.

I've heard this talked about a lot lately. I kinda left this thread alone because when I posted it I wasn't even aware of the extent of the damage done to the region. I don't watch much TV, plus Im sleep during the day. I still feel that there were some issues with this whole ordeal but I feel that none of it really needs to be discussed until the lives of these people are safe.
I think there were some really "eff'ed" things happenin in this situation. I just haven't felt them worth discussing.

Chris Graythen, who took the AFP picture and wrote the caption, said "I believed in my opinion, that they did simply find them, and not 'looted' them in the definition of the word. The people were swimming in chest deep water, and there were other people in the water, both white and black. I looked for the best picture. there were a million items floating in the water - we were right near a grocery store that had 5+ feet of water in it. it had no doors. the water was moving, and the stuff was floating away. These people were not ducking into a store and busting down windows to get electronics. They picked up bread and cokes that were floating in the water. They would have floated away anyhow."
