And no, don't give me this bull that the guy is playing against the second stingers, cause the heat and accuracy on many of his passes would be completed against any type of defense. Brunell must have been hurt something awful last year, becuase he did not have half of the velocity he has on the last two pre-season games.
Since I couldn't watch the game last night here in NC, I went back and watched the Panthers preseason game again just focusing on Brunell. There was one play that really stood out for me and the Panther commentators picked up on it too.
The 'Skins were at the Carolina 45 or so and Brunell dropped back and threw a long pass from the 'Skins 47 yd line or so to a reciever in the endzone. He ended up overthrowing him by just a few yards but even though the pass was not completed it was still very impressive. He threw that ball over 60 yards in the air and what's more, it wasn't even like a bomb or anything, it was a rope only going about 20-25 feet above the ground. The guy is just a completely different player, that was impressive arm strength from any QB. His mobility is also excellent, he doesn't look much slower than he did in his prime in Jacksonville.
Gibbs will stick with the Ram for now but I am actually quite happy with the depth we have at QB. Brunell can obviously still play and Campbell is a star-in-waiting.
BTW, another thing to consider is this. Typically, left tackle is one of the most important positions in football as this is the guy who watches your QBs back. But, when you put a lefty in there at QB, right tackle is all of a sudden the most important position on the line. Jansen was injured last year and I'm sure that that contributed to Brunell's injuries. This year he will be protected much better.
