He really does make the other guys around him look like they are lacking something. If this guys play ever matches his appearance we will be in for a heck a treat.

McCune - Great story, awesome physical specimen, pretty lousy football player.
He seems like a quality person, but there's a reason he went on the second day despite the physical attributes.

He is a lousy football player because he wasnt drafted on the first day, that show that you know a lot about the draft

The only reason he went on the second day is because he is 26. Some people saw that as a detrement, we did not. I am telling you this guy has more then just a good story. I'm willing to bet you curvy that by mid season you'll be wishin' it was Cowboys who drafted him.

Name your wager pal.

Name one person that Gregg has placed on his defense thats lousy.
Our WORST players from Spurriers regime, SHINED under Gregg. 10-12's ONLY problem is his lack of in-game experience. If you read the article then you'd know that he has FIRMLY grasped everything that has been thrown his way and that he's been given the basics. I dont care what you're doing but once you get the basics you can do anything.

I never said that he would never be a quality player. I follow college ball very closely and watched a good bit of live and taped Louisville due to Lefors, Shelton and the favorable Thursday scheduling. He showed no indication of "insticts" in college and never seemed to be much of a force. I'm not saying that he can't be taught to be a better player, but he has a long way to go as a linebacker.
The physical specimens aka "workout warriors" have a tendency to rocket
up draft boards not
down. I realize that his age may have played a small factor, but other "older" players have gone high in previous drafts (ex. T. Newman).
If you look at a history of second day picks on the defensive side that have made an immediate impact on the NFL level, you'll finde that a majority of them were players with football skills who dropped due to poor measurables. (ex. Erik Coleman).

As I addressed in my previous post, age isn't neccesarily seen as a detriment to high draft status, but iffin you wanna bet, I'm in for a 100 post sig bet that he's not a full time starter for you by your ninth game.

Ok I see what you're saying.
I dont follow collegiate ball closely, you seem to be know what you're talking about. Instict is something thats hard to teach, almost seems like you have it or you dont. Patrick seemed to have that problem once but appears to be growing out of it. I dont think that MLB needs the type of precision instict a QB would need and he's been labeled as a hard worker and extremely bright. If instict is something that can be attained through study and hardwork than we have no worries about him at all.

I'm taking that bet! I'm gonna start planning something really good for you!

Remember I owe you for that comment in TS. McCune is gonna be starting way before the 9th game.

Yeah Curveball I get what your saying, I was arguing the fact that if hes good enough for GW hes good enough for me lol, and that many 2nd day draft picks have turned out good. Instincts are neccessary your right, but he might have instincts

A good example would be Pierce. I'm sure similar comments could have been made for him prior to last year. And now he has Greg Williams to thank for that hefty contract.

Yeah but we haven't heard much about Mccune as we did of Pierce, Clifton Smith seems to be the " pierce " of this team, because hes getting media attention

Looking like that will get you tested very quickly, no matter what sport you play. I do not think that given his reported weight lifting skills that you can just assume that - plus he will be made an example and suspended if he is.
I think that given our depth at LB he might have tough road to be a starter on Defense but I think he's going to be a "huge" presence on Special Teams and that is considered a "starter" under the terms of that bet.
