I can be useless for half the price of ol' Freddie "The Mouth" Mitchell. I can be useless on offense, useless on defense, even useless on special teams!! I'm a triple threat of uselessness, baby!!

Redskins May Be Interested in Mitchell

The Philadelphia Eagles yesterday released outspoken wide receiver Freddie Mitchell , who has expressed an interest in playing for the Washington Redskins.
The Redskins have not ruled out pursuing the 2001 first-round pick from UCLA, but sources said yesterday the team had not contacted the four-year veteran. Sources also indicated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have a serious interest in Mitchell.
The Redskins have not contacted Freddie Mitchell, a first-round pick from UCLA in 2001, but sources said Friday they have not ruled out pursuing the outspoken wide receiver.
In response to media inquiries about Mitchell, the Redskins issued a brief release: "He will be evaluated just like every other player who hits the waiver wire. If we have interest, we will contact him."
The Redskins already have a logjam at wide receiver with Santana Moss , David Patten , Taylor Jacobs , James Thrash and Darnerien McCants . Rod Gardner remains in limbo after the club was unable to trade him before April's draft. But Redskins Coach Joe Gibbs said Thursday that he is "skeptical" about Gardner returning for the 2005 season.
Mitchell was the 25th selection in 2001 -- 10 spots after Gardner -- but has failed to live up to expectations. In 63 career games, Mitchell has just 90 catches for 1,263 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Mitchell also drew attention by giving himself nicknames such as "The People's Champ," and criticized quarterback Donovan McNabb for not throwing him enough passes. Eagles Coach Andy Reid reportedly grew tired of Mitchell's act and uninvited him from the team's mandatory minicamp last week.

More speculation from Nunyo.
I hope it doesn't become true, though.

Freddie Mitchell is more talented than Todd, not afraid to go over the middle like Todd and actually not a bad guy -- a funny guy. On first blush you might think he's a pain in the butt, but I don't believe he is. He's more goofy than hateful. He dressed up like Col. Sanders for some country western radio station...
I'd give him a chance...more competition will only help us. I would NOT give him much money, invite him to camp.
plus, he's a Fred and that gives him one leg up on all other FA comers...
Come on down FreddyEx.
THE NEWS
49ers' head coach Mike Nolan laughed on Saturday when a reporter proposed the idea of signing free agent wide receiver Freddie Mitchell. "Give me some names, some good names," Nolan fired back with a laugh, according to the Mercury News. "I don't want to chase the pretty girls that are out there, the ones that everybody says, 'Oh, this one is good.' And then you get them on your squad and they just don't fit. There's a reason somebody else doesn't want them." The Eagles released Mitchell on Friday.
OUR VIEW
So much for the FredEx to San Francisco rumors. Meanwhile, it appears that Nolan has also given up on the idea of signing troubled wideout David Boston, whom he met with in March. As things stand today, the Niners have eight receivers on the roster and only one, Brandon Lloyd, has started at the pro level.
