guys you gotta be kidding me if you're justifying portis and/or taylor in any way shape or form. the last i understood, everybody except the "U" players didn't have a 14-2 season here. everybody had a 6-10 season. if the rest of them can get their butts into the redskins park and train, why not taylor? as a "professional" football player, he has obligations like everyone else. other than portis himself, i don't know anybody who has, in recent times, demanded renegotiation after just 1 season. at least in portis' case, he had a season like not many rookies have had. what about taylor? he played good but i wouldn't call him exceptional. on a larger scale, any professional organization that tolerates such behavior (of taylor & portis) from its employees is in for trouble. just because these guys are in the nfl and earn a whole lot of money doesn't give them an excuse to act so unprofessionally. if anything, their paychecks and positions only make them more responsible than an average joe. i really hope gibbs does something about this.

The thing about Taylor's contract is that its all speculation. Taylor hasn't commented and Rosenhaus hasn't commented. So its all just the speculation of a writer.

As for him taking time off.....eh...I don't have a problem with that...as long as he is up front about it, which he hasn't been. I don't have a problem with him spending time away from the team....its his perogative. I do have a problem with the way that he handled it.

Hmm. I think I'll try to take off from work when everybody else is here, but I'll make sure that someone else tells my boss that I'm doing the same work at home that they are at the office... and I won't call the boss or return his calls. Wonder how long I'll be employed.

You know, I have bad days at work...and I get paid a ton less that Seany boy. He needs to get his butt working with his teammates!!!!
 i agree, you need to work out with the team even if you don't need to.

If anybody on this team needs time off from football, it's Mark Brunell.....or maybe Ray Brown's 42-year-old bones.

I love Taylor's play on the field, but this guy is really looking like the epitome of prima donna. Someone remind him that he's played one...ONE season. And now he wants time off. And a raise.

I can't even fathom the thought process there. These guys are just living in another world than me and Joe Schmo.

This is a good example of how the media makes you look like an idiot.
Portis may have been trying to make a valid point that the switch from college to pro is more draining and that it is very different from what his football experience has been up to date. For any rookie it is. Much harder, longer season, more training, getting used to losing games, pro days, etc. Add a new home, a DUI, getting fined by the NFL. I'm sure it was an adjustment.
But this is how Portis said it:
"Going through all the bad pub that he took, you just need time away from football," Portis said Wednesday. "I think Sean's in shape; he looks good. He's training."

"Nothing happens today ain't going to affect July, August, September," Portis said. "Santana calls me every day: 'Man, what y'all do today?' I'm like: 'Man, we ain't did nothing. We're doing the same thing you're doing in Miami, running and working out. You ain't missed nothing.' "

He's talking about Moss here, but it still applies to Taylor missing as well. Then they add a quote about partying with Hefner.
It makes him look like an idiot, and that ALL football players just want to party, when maybe there is a valid point about the need to get back to something familiar because of the adjustment from college to the pros. He just doesn't know how to speak to the press.
Then the press runs with it and I have to hear Czaban and Bram Whathisname and all the other fools talk sarcastically about how poor Sean "needs a break from football". "He's had a break since Jan 2", etc.

So they paint the picture that all players are primadonnas and don't know the first thing about a work ethic, when it is not the case. All because its sexy press at the time. I GUARANTEE you that players in Ashburn right now are focusing on their work ethic.

Now as to how Taylor is handling the situation.

Yes. He should have returned Gibb's phone calls.

But this is a young, arrogant, kid getting advice from Rosenputz. His agent probably told him not to call; we got 'em right where we want 'em. I'll get you a new deal. Just let me do my job and get you a new contract. It's just voluntary anyway.

Taylor doesn't realize sometimes people give you bad advice.

In this instance, he should have returned the call. It really could affect his playing time. But think about it. Taylor is really a fish out of water here. His life has been turned upside down with money and fame, and he is in reality just a kid. He simply doesn't have the life experience yet. He is going to do what the agent says because that's what agents do. They tell you to sit back, relax, just focus on football and I'll handle the rest.

Add some years of experience, and Taylor will realize that your agent will do what YOU tell them to do because that is how they get paid.

Taylor just doesn't know that yet.

All the bad puplicity Taylor got he brought on himself. There's no need making it seem like he's being picked on or singled out for any particular reason "Time Off" are you kidding me? Maybe if he thought about keeping himself out of trouble and being more responsible, maybe he wouldn't feel so drained. If he was not ready for the rigors of the NFL then maybe he should have stayed in School until he was ready. Judging from his actions and lack of maturity thus far, maybe another year in School would have allowed him to mature more to the extent where he would realize he has entered a man's world now, and it's time for him to act accordingly. "Time Off" What a joke!!

chaddukes wrote:Having said all that, I can see where Taylor is coming from. He is a Florida boy. This is the first time in his life that he has been displaced from his hoe for an extended period of time. The NFL season is longer than most college rookies are used to so this season was probably a physical drain on him. Last year he went from the College game to the combine to the draft to three camps to preseason to regular season. Almost no break from 2003 season to the 2004 NFL season.

Awww, boo-hoo-hoo. Cry me a freakin' Potomac River. He's no longer in college. It's the real world and it's different. It's time for him to grow up and put in the time to become a superstar. What makes him think he's above his teammates who are sweating and toiling in camp?
