Hey! That's the spirit! We lost Jackie one of our great cheerleaders recently. Why would you not apply for the job?

Young, compulsive manic-depressive personality.

Breaking Apart

I wouldn't worry about the Skins falling apart. Gibbs and his staff will get everything situated. Lavar, he needs to focus on getting healthy for training camp. Remember, they were one of the top 5 defenses without him. Also, Santana Moss & Sean Taylor wanting new contracts. Crap, what has Santana Moss done since he's been in the league? He wants to be one of the highest paid receivers in the NFl? Yeah right, he's had 1 good year @ best and he's never put up numbers like T.O. or Marvin Harrison. Sean Taylor, he needs to honor his contract and quit getting in trouble. Overpaid athletes! I say cut them and other athletes who want bigger contracts who haven't done crap in the league! Quit paying for potential! Me, me, me, me, me! They don't know what the concept of team is. New England Patriots, a team and super bowl champs!

hatsOFF2gibbs wrote:Is it just me or are the Redskins breaking apart? LColes, FSmoot, APierce all left the ship. Now, questions are coming up with SMoss, STaylor, and now LArrington????
What the hell is going on?? Is our team breaking up??

Actually the Redskins are going though a process that is much needed. The mindset of a lot of these players need to change not just player on the our team but players around the league have gotten spoiled or coddled for too long.
Our guys would threaten to leave and get a big windfall
Other players would threaten to visit the Skins and would get a big windfall if that didn't work then they would visit the Skins and get that big windfall.
Those days are gone... Now if you want to play here then you have to WANT to play here.

Posters are saying the Skins are falling apart because we lost some players …..

WR Laveranues Coles …….who stated he didn’t want to be here and he also had a toe that we didn’t want
DT Jermaine Haley …….was cut need I say more?
OT Vaughn Parker ……. I can’t remember if he played a down or not last season but he has also been cut
LB Antonio Pierce …….. Had 1 great year at MLB – took the money and ran- If he doesn’t work out the Gints still get a very good Special Teamer
CB Fred Smoot. ……. The “Redskin for Life” has decided on an out of body experience he’ll be in Minny for a few years

Then….

Sean Taylor and Santana Moss decided not to come to the involuntary voluntary workouts while at the same time stating (through “the Danny’s Pal –Drew) that they want more money……and now Lavar needs more …..(OK I don’t know WTF Lavar wants).

Gibbs is sure to get the blame for all of this.
But what about....

Roughly 73 of 75 players volunteered to be at the workouts I don’t see anyone giving Joe props for that.

This time last year Mr. Gibbs hadn’t even talked to all the players on the roster let alone meet with them daily.

Gibbs said he wasn’t going to go wild in Free Agency this year and this is causing some of you a little anxiety.

But he is doing what he said he would (fill position of need) not signing names but signing needs. He went out and signed

LB- Brian Allen to upgrade our kick coverage…. this will fill need created by Lamar Marshall starting last year and projected to this year

WR- Santana Moss to stretch the field …. With Coles toe we could use a speedster, with Coles gone we need a speedster

WR- David Patten will be a viable option for Ramsey (who will hold on to the ball more than half the time)

S- Pierson Prioleau also to upgrade our kick coverage…. this will fill need created by the abnormally high number of injuries to our DBs last year

C- Casey Rabach. will man the middle and set the assignments of the O-lne

This anxiety is effecting more than just Skins fans, I get question at work all the time about why haven’t the Skins signed this guy or that guy? (this is partly my fault for years of coming into work every other day about the new free agent we’d just signed ).

The truth of the matter is we really didn’t need to do that much this offseason other than build off of last offseason .
This time last season (actually as of 4-10-04) Gibbs had signed…CB Ralph Brown, QB Mark Brunell, DE Phillip Daniels, DT Cornelius Griffin, CB Walt Harris, RB Clinton Portis, TE Walter Rasby, C Cory Raymer, DT Joe Salave'a, CB Shawn Springs, WR James Thrash, P Tom Tupa, LB Marcus Washington all these guy (hopefully not Mr.Brunell)will be contributors this year and into the future.

I’d say Mr. Gibbs has done a pretty good job since he’s been back. What I don’t understand is why no one panic like this last year (actually as of 4-13-04) when we had lost many more player than we have this year

LB Jessie Armstead
CB Champ Bailey
P Bryan Barker
DT Martin Chase
DT Lional Dalton
FB Bryan Johnson
WR Patrick Johnson
DT Darrell Russell
DE Bruce Smith
LB Armegis Spearman

After 4-13-04 but before training camp

WR Kevin Swayne
TE Byron Chamberlain
OL Larry Moore
S David Terrell
LB Jeremiah Trotter
RB Trung Canidate
OG Dave Fiore
DL Bernard Holsey

We only lost 5 guys so far this year two on the D and 1 on offense that were starters but …….
There is a long way to go, we still have the draft and then the June 1 cuts to get by before we start pulling out our hair

IF I were a Redskin fan I think I'd be happy with all that's transpired because it shows me one thing; Snyder is no longer in charge. This is Gibbs' entire organization now, no ifs, ands or buts.

Excluding the loss of Pierce, who I think the Redskins felt wasn't worth the contract he was offered, every other player who's had problems the last 12 months has been something of a prima donna whose egos were fed by Snyder acting the fan instead of the owner and allowing those egos to go unchecked.

Gibbs is obviously having ALL players check their egos at the door. Some players can't seem to handle not having their rear ends kissed and I doubt Gibbs has ever puckered up in his life.

I doubt you'll have problems with Portis, because while he does have an ego, it was never stoked in Denver and it didn't happen under Gibbs. Taylor may or may not "get it" in the end, but that's another discussion. (that could be worse, he could have been Winslow)

IMO, Joe wants a team of players who are willing to be coached and will make every effort to be the player that he and his coaches want.

hatsOFF2gibbs wrote:....A bunch of hard workers who suffer every season because they do not have playmakers? Every team needs playmakers in this league to have any chance of winning. It seems like all of our great playmakers are here in Washington for the money, not for the game.

This might be true in Fantasy football but this is the NFL and Joe is going to make this "work" with todays "system" which seems to reward the skill players but only those that are playing together seem to succeeed. We have seen improvement in the team since SS left and we will continue to do so. Joe is still tweaking and I think last year was a lot of learning how to be successful and we will be back in the playoffs this year and very competitive next year.

This team was not ever really out of it or not competitive last year. The O was very disapointing by Joe's standards and the line will not let anybody down this year. We will see a lot of good football out of these players and coaches this year. I also think that the players will very quickly realize that if they want the success that Joe will achieve then they are going to do it his way or be gone!

We all need to let the coaches and players do their job and stop reading too much into what some very ignorant sports people are assuming and for the most part "creating!"

I can easily see why somebody would have their itchiest finger hovering over the panic button, but I'm not at that point yet. Here's why.
Firstly, this is really the first time I've seen something other than sunshine and gatorade from Arrington at this point in the preseason. (Sidenote...now I'm wondering what he said to Courtney Brown...) He's all ticked off. Wouldn't it be nice to see a ticked off Arrington on the field, rather than being all giggly and stupid ? Wouldn't it be something to see opposing quarterbacks pay for the perceived slights he's endured ? All this chest-thumping from him, though...it kinda reinforces my view of the man. I still think that if there's a market for him, it shouldn't be ignored. We can live with the loss of yet another "cheerleader". :)
Santana Moss ? What, is this a threat to hold out ? Who cares ? Santana Moss was no consistent game breaker here in NY, at least not the way a healthy Coles once was. We're talking about anybody else's #2 receiver, folks. It's no biggie. McCants can do it, too.
Taylor ? At this point, I'm perfectly willing to chalk this up to youthful stupidity. He's not getting a new deal. If the team throws a bone his way, they'd be setting a dangerous precedent. He'll be here when it looks like the team is willing to go on without him. He is, after all, under contract. If he wants to hold out, hey. Whatever. As those before me have said, no one man is greater than the team.
The only thing that bothers me about any of this tumult is having to watch Joe squirm. It's horrid, making this man have to beg and plead his way through the new media, literally apologizing for players. I'm sure he knew it wouldn't be easy when he was making the decision to come back to the club, but could he have forseen this type of (pick the word carefully, TC....) well, treachery ?

I'll just throw out that no one DARES miss voluntary practices for Bill Parcells without a specific reason. :)

And training in Florida or California is not one of them.

Yea, Larry Allen always stays in Dallas, uses the Cowboys' official workout and doesn't hang at the Y.

Every team has a few players that try to do their own things all off season. It's all in how the team handles it.

I know this was meant to get some reactions from Skins players, so I'll just throw something else out (aside from curveball's good point) so that nothing erupts here. . .

Like 1niksder said, 73 of 75 players are at the workouts (or have legitimate reasons not to be) when, at this time last year, Gibbs hadn't even talked to everyone on the team yet.

Moss is under a contract that everyone knows isn't the real thing and needs to be reworked before he plays a down in D.C. Taylor is continuing in his immaturity. Both players are from U of Miami and come with that baggage. Both players have Drew as an agent. And both players are making mistakes.

By this time next year, no one will even remember that they were delayed in getting to camp. Between now and then, we'll have 2 chances to see how the perfectly behaved Cowboys under Parcells can handle the (well, only 2 apparently) wild and unruly Redskins.
