I didn't say Smoot was the best player, but having a CB team is important to a Gregg Williams defense... if we lost Springs then he'd be the 2nd most important player...

How much better would you like Lemar Marshall to be?? Last year he had 48 tackles. He didn't even start every game. Takeo Spikes in comparrison had 61. That sounds like an outstanding linebacker to me. If he'd started he could likely have matched Spikes record. I think you people need to get over your own opinions and realize that you have absolutely no idea what Greg Williams is basing his defense on or whether or not it will work again next year. As far as Smoot being gone, how many of you people said the same damned thing about Champ Bailey. Yeah we really missed him, number 3 defense but we needed him!!! PUH LEASE!

Gregg Williams is the reason for our success moreso than the players. We've had better squads on paper in previous years and couldn't stop a kitten from running up the gut.

Marvin and Gregg have proven to me that its all about the coaching.

Who is Antonio Peirce in the NFL? A nobody until last year and Antonio wouldnt have flourished like he did in the previous years defense.

Before Gregg came, Smoot was getting smashed consistently just like Chump.

Our defensive line was for the most part identical to the line before Gregg came. The guys we picked up hardly played.

Gregg Williams is the truth, and this defense wont miss a beat. Its the offense we need to worry about.

Williams has had a top ranked defense everywhere he has been.
It's in the way he uses the players that are available.
Smoot and Peirce will be missed but Lavar, Daniels, Matt B. and posibly Barrow returning will outweight the departures.

As far as Brian Allen at MLB
There would be no harm if he competed for the spot. L Marshall is part of the reason Allen is here.(Marshall moved from ST to replacing Lavar... so a special teams spot was open) Maybe Marshall will be back in his old spot of ST and backing up LA

Can Brian Williams start????

A. Think back to this very day last year and ask yourself...can Antonio Pierce start?

Essentially it is the same question. A "special teams guy" starting? Sure, it can happen. It is not the plan though. Just like last year Barrow is slated to start...and Marshall will be quized in the coming months.

Sure enough, we won't have to worry about it as much as you might think. The Redskins defense as a whole made Pierce look good, not the other way around. The main thing is total dedication by the current players over the next 5 months.

GREAT POINT!!!! I meant to add this into the post. Our guys bought into the system. We have organization and a goal. We have hope. We have a coach who knows what he's doing. These guys are excited to play every game. Our offense sucked and they still played every down to try and get the ball back in their hands.

If you think that fire has been put out because two players left then thats retarded. That fire is going to burn harder. They have to prove that they can exist without Peirce and Smoot. Last year they had to prove they could play without Champ. Champ is worth more than both of those players and we EXCELLED without him!!
