The referee who called the "illegal motion" penalty, thwarting the Green Bay comeback.

He is the BONEHEAD of the year, since instant replay showed that no-one moved, I was at the game, and a bunch of fairweather fans had already left...it would have been awesome to have them learn that all important lesson.....Don't quit on your team...i like to refer to those fans as Randy Moss'...known to leave FedEx Field before the game ends.....my bad...i digressed from the topic.

The only good thing about that game was that all of the stupid Dallas fans cleared out of the stadium before the could celebrate. Man, that was by far worse than the game at Dallas, this year.

Actually, it was a kickoff and he took a knee at the one. But, what saved us was that we drove 99 yards for a touchdown. It was a Monday night game against Dallas in Richie Pettibon's debut as Skins head coach.

That was the season opener. But, the VERY worst part about it was it took my dad and I an hour to get home when he lived right around the corner from the stadium! Ugh!

I'm surprised no one brought up Joe Theismann's wounded duck of a screen pass near the end of the first half in Super Bowl XVIII. Jack Squirek took it to the house from five yards out and that was the beginning of the end!

I had considered that one as ranking pretty high also....

Unfortunately, that is probably listed as "Injun Burn X Go" in the Cowboys playbook, cause I've seen that happen to us entirely too many times, most recently, this year at Dallas. Yuk!!

Anyway, I submit the following two plays (or misplays, rather):

1) Deion (in horrific 4X jersey flailing in the wind) "fair catching" the football of of his facemask on MNF. That was a clear indication that his skills, then, had eroded.

2) Ladell Betts single-handedly ruining my boy Wuerffel's ascent into Redskins lore when he tipped a perfectly thrown ball into the waiting hands of Roy Williams for a Cowpukes score in Dallas. I believe it was a Turkey day game (also the one where Barker smashed his nose). Had Ladell simply held on to the ball, Wuerffel could have been the one to break the horrific losing streak against the Cowboys, and, like Lavar once did against Carolina, Danny's win could have turned our season around.

Also, I'm pretty shocked that Welch hasn't been by with a Garo Yepremian reference yet...but I'm sure he will be.He wasn't a Redskin...but his boneheaded play in '72 almost put us in the record books for all time.

That was probably the most bone headed play off ALL time, not just by a Redskin. The only one that I can think of that comes close is Jim Marshall running, like 70 yards the wrong way with a fumble recovery for a safety. At least Marshall looked good while he was running.

My all time Redskin bonehead play was when we blocked an extra point against the Bears with only seconds left in the game. Bobby Douglas picks it up and runs around in the backfield back almost to the fifty, with Redskins falling all around him and then chucks a hail mary into the endzone which Dick Butkus (that's right BUTKUS!) catches for the extra point to win the game 16-15. I think that was in 1971

I left out Garo only because he wasn't a Redskin. Same with Jim Marshall, who was a great player, and who had part of an excuse. I remember seeing the film on that one -- ah, full-speed on black-and white TV -- on a half-hour NFL highlights show.

Marshall was in the backfield, spinning the QB for what would have been a sack. When the ball fell loose, players were scrambling all over, and Marshall was turned in the wrong direction. I remember the Viking player running behind, trying to get him to stop.

I can't remember the player, but a non-Redskin WR spiked the ball on the 5 or 10 yard line, having mis-read the markings. It either went for a safety, or was recovered by the other team. That player gets a vote.

I also remember somebody, like Deion, slowing to walk the last five yards with the ball held in one hand, high above his head. An opponent steamed by and snatched it. That player -- I hope it was Deion -- also gets a vote.

Mitchell at the goal line taking a knee. He thought he was in the Zone vs Dallas in 93.

I guess I'll add to it the lastest in a long list of bone-headed (heart-breaking) plays.....last year's day after Christmas Testyverde last second TD pass to a no-name puke for the game winner. They all hurt....but that one is just the most recent wound.

OK, so I got most of it anyway.

"Oops that was the Vikings. Sorry!" perhaps? I forget the players name, but when I was younger and reading those books on the NFL from the public library the Viking that ran the wrong way was all over those things.


I don't know why, because it doesn't fit by definition, but when I hear the word "boneheaded" play I can't help but relive seeing Barker's nose turned up like police chief Wiggum's that fateful Thanksgiving in Dallas a few years back.
