Spiral - gotta hand it to you for the moniker! Just wondering, did he ever really throw a spiral? J/K :0) I loved Billy Kilmer. I have an old card of his from his early days with the Saints - an overdue Welcome to you!
Good info on the corners at VaTech! Playing behind guys like that should be helpful. Who knows, he could outshine them all in a few years.

No never threw a spiral at all, but thats why he was great. His passes had "character" but they got there.
Not a bad point either luva luva, I hope he comes through as a solid player. I mean STaylor is going to make anyones job easier at corner.

Why does everyone think that the only way to get a good player is in the first round? Uhhh if you are going to be on Smoots jock, then you would remember he wasn't a first rounder. To replace him does not neccessarily mean we need to spend the #9 on him, especially when the offense needs more help.

Preach it!!!!
You'd think people would learn, but obviously not. We have REAL COACHES NOW, we no longer need to acquire the so called "best" players to compensate for a lack of coaching talent! We can get the supposedly "mediocre" and make them look like THE BEST!! Or maybe we didn't learn that from last year.... We have greater needs than CB...

Yeah, the offense needs help, clearly I LOVE offense and would like to have a top ranked one... however, who's available at 9 that will help us? I am becoming increasingly more certain that Braylon Edwards and Mike Williams will be gone by the time we pick... a defensive player is looking like the best value... unless we trade down, which I am not so sure about

.
Maybe getting Rolle would be the best option.

I also think if both the wide receivers are gone we should get Rolle. And having the "best" talent at corner is somthing some of yall seem to be underrating. Just because the pats got by with two relatively unknown corners doesnt mean we should just through anyone in there. Williams is great and we can be OK with whatever corners we have in there but if we get a "good" player at that position it can change the game around. With a solid secondary we can "make" plays instead of just preventing plays being made on us. A interception at the right time can swing a game or a season, e.g. Lavar Arrington when shottenheimer was here. I am just saying when it comes time to draft you want to draft a playemaker and if the two big wide receivers are gone I think the next bet is on pac man or antrell. I just dont see that much depth of offensive talent that will make a difference in this draft.

On the other hand I believe people are underating the DE spot. Did we not get our butts burned regulary with Chump and Smoot at the helm? Why? No pass rush.
This season we had a moderate pass rush that helped our CBs drastically.
If you cannot pressure the QB any CB will get burnt after while.
CB is a position that has a lost a bit of its worth, although I agree its still very important I believe we have greater needs that need to be adressed 1st and the options we currently have at CB can sustain us until a later time.

Not to disrespect anyone's reasoning, but we were second in the NFC in sacks last year, and with arrington coming back you would expect that to improve, especially since he plays both standing and with a hand down at times, we also don't know what we have in Daniels...why is everyone following the media's lead and saying we are desperate for a D-End.
Oh by the way, don't hate Daniels because he was hurt, and then praise Matt Bowen...he was hurt too.

I dont know who you're reffering to but my opinions are my own. I see a lack of pass rushing ability, and I dont see Lavar as a DE. He's a LB. He's not going to be able to pass rush on every down. When we weren't blitzing last year the opposing QB's had TONS AND TONS AND TONS of time to throw the ball. We need to garner CONSISTENT pressure WITHOUT blitzing. Then when we do blitz with Lavar, Bowen, Springs, Taylor, Marcus, or whoever else they'll be that much more effective. I can count many times when our blitzes got picked up last year because we weren't getting that big of a push from our D-line to not be able to pick up the blitz.

Im not saying that Lavar is a DE, Im saying he has pass rushing ability, and the Premise of GW's Defensive scheme from Tennessee to Buffalo is predicated upon blitzing. Im not saying that we could not benefit from a good pass rusing DE, but i just don't think we have to marry ourselves to the thought that the only way to fill that need is with the #9 pick. Many quality players go later the first day....
With the average amount of points we gave up, if we only averaged 21 points per game (league avg.) we would have been 12-4 just check the schedule. The Defensive ranking is based on total yards given up. We finshed third...I don't remember qb's picking us apart...especially when we averaged over 2 sacks a game...
again not disagreeing with you,but just think we can fill needs like this with other picks.

I wudnt mind Garnell starting...most good players in the nfl werent first round picks...I think the hogster is rig ht we need to train people and Wilds will do good under GW

I agree for all the same reasons that have been listed above. Besides, I have seen him play many games witha VT uniform on and he was a pretty good cover corner. He just didn't stick out a bunch because Deangelo Hall was a playmaker there. Give the kid a chance, what's the worst that could happen? I also have faith in GW and the rest of the defensive coaches to cultivate good players and not just pick them up in the draft or free agency.

Garnell Wilds is from VT and to me Bud Foster and Greg Williams are alot alike in the way they run their defense. Both are very attack oriented and like to change the pace of the game. I think any tech def. player would fit good in Williams system.

Wilds could be a good potential NB but I can't imagine him being a starter even in the next few years

Walt Harris will be our starter and Garnell will be the nickel

In last years draft scouts had said that if wilds would have been the #1 corner on his team instaed of I think Dunta Robinson or whatever corner played on his team that was a #1 pick last year, he would have easily been a #1. If Im talking about the right guy.

I also think that this is a very good point!
I know we had some decent pressure and did well as far as stats go - high sacks NFC!! BUT it seemed to me that on too many occasions the QB had too much time and we need to increase our pressure from our D line this year.
Chris Luva Luva wrote:... and I don't see Lavar as a DE. He's a LB....
Again - this is where we need him and hopefully that will be where we see him this year.
Maybe we can get lucky and put a Brown truck at FedEx field!!!

we could improve, but i don't think the coaches are as nervous about our d-line as you all are...you could stand to improve at just about any position, but drafting a rookie with the 9 does not mean that he will come in and put up Julius Pepper's type numbers. We'll see this year, I think the Defense will be fine, even if we don't a DE.

So now that the season in close...what role will wilds have on our team...this all of coarse depends on 7 days if we draft a corner or not...if we do draft a corner I say he competes with walt harris in camp but If a corenr isnt drafted he will compete with harris fir 2nd spot or maybe play nickel

Wilds went to VT, and was behind DeAngelo Hall. He's a solid corner, but I see him more as a quality reserve than a starter.
