The espn article says that an extension will have to be done before the deal goes thru...

I just wanna say, I'm not happy about this trade at all. I don't mind Moss, he'll be a ricky sanders type player. But according to the article, we are taking a full cap hit from this deal. Why would we do that? I think just goes to show you how far Gibbs will go to get rid of the cancers in the lockeroom. I trust in Joe, but I'm hurting today...

General Failure wrote:Yeah, but he'll never be healthy again. This is season 3 of the ongoing Toe saga now, isn't it?

The Toe injury happened around the 5th week his first season here. He tried to let it heal naturally and it got worse. He supposedly just took a cortizone shot for the first time around the middle of last season, and he says that's good enough. The problem with the toe is this...

He doesn't have the acceleration that he used to have. He can't run by DBs like he used to. He does appear to still be able to cut like before(hence 90 catches).

The toe is so bad now that the only way to fix it is to remove one of the bones in his foot. If he has the surgery they say there is a 50/50 chance it will end his career. If he doesn't have the surgery, I guess the redskins felt it would just get worse and worse, so they pressed him to have the surgery. I have a feeling that this may have caused the rift between Coles and the skins.

I still don't understand taking the cap hit on this trade, but I suppose the risk of Coles career ending soon along with the cancer that he was last year and likely to be again if we made him play for us, justified the deal in Gibbs mind.

Where did this lockerroom cancer stuff come from? Since when does a guy get labled with that for asking to be released or traded in the offseason? You guys told him Ramsey was the future and you brought in Brunell and threw everybody off rythem. You can't tell a player one thing and then do another and expect his full loyalty.

I think anyone who isn't happy about their surroundings can be a possible cancer. We weren't sure if it was milignant or not so we cut him out anyway! lol

Im not happy about this trade imo and Im not thrilled about Patten. Ill trust Gibbs anyway.

I think this is great news!

We have two very fast recievers now, who have been proven to stretch the field. I doubt Portis will see eight or nine man fronts this coming season.

Look, even though I still can't really understand the reason for the rule of multiple post and I don't think there is a reason for them, I was reminded that they are the rules and I will follow them. But I must say that I HATE EVERY THREAD being hyjacked as a read the rules and don't repost thread. PEOPLE DON'T REPOST WETHER YOU AGREE WITH THE RULES OR NOT THEY ARE THE RULES! SirSmizzy I'm not talking to you because I agree this is a new post, but technically it isn't. Technicaly anything that has anything to do with Coles or Moss should be under one thread. BUT HOW FAR BACK DO YOU GO ](*,)
Now on the subject of the post: I think we got the royal short end on this AGAIN, just like last year with the Baily / Portis trade. We gave up way more value for way less value!!!! There is NOTHING GOOD IN THIS TRADE FOR US!!!

How can you guys hate this trade?

We dumped a reciever that couldn't be a number one reciever no more, because of his injury. He wasn't happy here. He was a possible cancer.

We got someone for very cheap this season, who had a good year last year. Well, considering he had quincy carter and Pennington (with a torn rotator cuff) throwing him the ball for half of the season.

Defenses will have to respect the deep pass now.

Yeah I am not happy with getting Moss, but we had to quarantine the locker rooms before someone else got infected.

The locker room cancer stuff came from the players. When it first came out that Coles wanted to be released, some players said they were glad because they didn't know if they could take his bitching another season. It seems he was bitching to other players about the offense during the season, and they said it made it hard to stay positive...

Oh ok. Sounds to me like a frustrated player voicing his displeasure. Im sure they're were other factors that made it hard to "stay positive" for the other skins. Like Lavar who had to play the whole season with that contact Mess looming over him.

At some point you have to wonder what the heck is going on in washington. I can remember when you guys signed all those jets and laughed away as i said they were all over paid mediocre guys except coles....since then you lost Bailey,Smoot,Trotter,Coles and alot of other " core" skins.

This is cutting off your own nose. How can they take the cap hit & Pay moss? They have to Pay moss to keep him or this whole Coles thing turns into a huge mess. Coles cost you a 1st rd pick(#12) don't forget.

... glad it finally happened ... it wasn't good for either team to have it hanging over us ... stopping us both from addressing needs in the f-a market ... no funny business with the physicals & then the topic can go back on the shelf until one,the other, or both have monster games during the season ... they are both good players and should both have some big games next season for their respective teams...

Well, from the outside, I can see your point, but being a Skins fan and knowing who and what Joe Gibbs is, it makes sense to me. Joe Gibbs is doing what he does. He's getting rid of the flash and brining in substance. Not that I'm saying Moss is substance, I don't know what he is yet. I guess like everyone else, we'll have to wait and see what happens next season. I personally think we will be very good next year with a good offensive line, a rising star in Ramsey and a good defense, but we'll have to wait and see.

I definitely agree Primetime, but there comes a point when it goes from just your standard bitching to one that crosses the line. With the comments of some of the players, I'd say it crossed the line. You have to remember, that most of these players LOVE Gibbs and company. If you really start attacking them, their character, etc..Those players are going to be pretty pissed with you. IF that happened, and I don't know that it did, I can see why this deal went down. For all we know, some of the players themselves may have asked Gibbs to get rid of him lol

Keeping Chirs Samuels was huge for the skins and he is worth every penny.

I never understood bringing in brunell when Ramseey is clearly the better QB and with a much brighter upside.Moss isn't crap,he can be productive is ramsey slings em out there for moss to go get but don't expect moss to make to many big catches in traffic or lowering his shoulder to deliever a blow or to get that extra yard.

I think it would've been nice to get Cowart or a nice lower end pick with Moss, seeing as to how we gave up a pantload to get LC in the first place.
Oh, well. Like I've been saying... We were pretty horrid with him...can't be THAT much worse without him.

hindsight is 20/20. Easy to look at it that way now... and I'm not disagreeing with your logic. But Ramsey STILL hasn't proven that he's the man for Gibbs' offense and I think Gibbs would have known that better than anyone. And I don't mean that Ramsey doesn't have the physical tools, but JG likes a 'seasoned' veteran under center and they thought Brunell was the guy. Obviously, he wasn't. But while the Redskins are everyones favorite whipping boy... there were lots of teams WILLING to make the same mistake. They just wouldn't likely have thrown a blank cheque at him. In oher words, lots would have made the same mistake... most wouldn't have had to wait an extra year to fix it if it went wrong because of the money that they threw at him.

SirSmizzy wrote:Moss isn't crap,he can be productive is ramsey slings em out there for moss to go get but don't expect moss to make to many big catches in traffic or lowering his shoulder to deliever a blow or to get that extra yard.

I agree with that... I can also live with that. Coles showed us how effective a guy who can make the big catches in traffic can be in JG's system last year.

Which was not very effective. And compounding that, he was LESS and LESS effective as the season wore on and his toe got worse.

In reality we have a guy that got the biggest signing bonus in team history, caught more balls than anyone on the team, was allowed to practice sparingly to be 'ready' for gameday and who packed it all in a New York minute to earn a little extra bread. he can wrap it up in the 'I'm not happy with my role' speech but Jets fans of all people should know how much of a crock that is.

It's all about the benjamins... and if it wasn't... he surely wouldn't have gone BACK to the team that 'under-appreciated' him before.

"When things are not going well, I want to step up and make things happen. That's the attitude I take." - L.Coles

I couldn't agree more. We basically swapped #2 WRs. Now that we are set at # 2, 3 and 4 WR spots we now can look for a #1 in the draft OR focus on other needs: CB, DE or TE.
