I do remember that. That was him ? It put us out of range, too, after the penalty. There were three flags on that, as I recall.

i got a rookie who is just like Pierce, Lofa Tatupa. This guy is an ILB from USC and is a beast. hes got game and brains. if the skins are looking for a LB, if this guy is there in the 4th round, we should snab him. he will be a steal if he is around after late in the 3rd.
however we have plenty of depth at LB so we dont really need one.

We will adapt to this "loss" if it goes down! I really am glad for him but this is not that "key" a loss in my judgement!
Greg will have the LB corps he needs. We need to move on in certain areas and IMO this is not that big a "deal" except for AP!
Good luck, AP - great deal! Sorry about the team, but you're secure, right??

I'm not touching that statement on Barrow. :?
...and that one good season...is it worth 5 mil per ? If his play last year was any kind of indication, I'd probably have to say "yeah".[/quote]
Whats wrong with Barrow. I mean how bad could anyone be at MLB when you have LaVAr and Washington on either side with Griffin up front and Taylor behind. Anyway we have two potential starters under contract (Lemar/Barrow) Give them a chance. IF they can't do it will get someone who can. And he is no way worth 5 Million a year. That's nuts.

Amen to that. Big Ups to Pierce, though. The guys gettin' paid and I can't knock him for that. I'm just glad it's another team overpaying for "potential" -- because that's clearly what the Giants are paying for. One very good season only means he has the "potential" to continue being very good...and a warning to the Giants...he barks like a dog during field goals and gets flagged for it.

Cap tips in Giants' favor
By RALPH VACCHIANO
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER
For the first time in the salary-cap era, the Giants have the money to be major players in the free-agent market.
But that doesn't mean they are going to suddenly turn into the Dallas Cowboys or the Washington Redskins. They may have had $8 million-$10 million in cap room when the free-agent frenzy opened at midnight last night, but they weren't planning to use it to make a big early splash just because they can.
"I just think you have to be careful," Giants GM Ernie Accorsi said at the scouting combine in Indianapolis last week. "Up to this point the big-splash guys are dwindling. What's going to happen is, I don't want to necessarily use the term 'overpriced,' but guys are going to get out of control and you've got to be careful you don't do that. We have the wherewithal to compete for top players, but it depends."

I just read that Comcast said Pierce is giving the Redskins until tomorrow to match the Giants offer. I say match it.

I agree but what would be our cap hit for next year and could we pick up someone in FA, resign Smoot, and Pierce.

Well, The Danny is the Cap Wizzard...if he can make it happen AND Greg Williams truly thinks Pierce is the smartest player he has coached....
THEN DO IT!!!!!!!!!
We still have Coles and Samuels extended....that means our cap is bigger than it was last night.....use some of it for THE SAKE OF CONSISTENCY.
Besides, isn't matching an offer the same as "market value"....considerring what other players have signed for the past 24 hours? I think the offer Pierce got was big, but not insane...it is doable.
If Pierce is seriously giving the Skins the courtesy to MATCH and offer then you have to tip your hat to him...he is a man of his words.

If the Giants really offered him that, let him go. It's a great deal for him, and we don't need to tie that much money up on top of Barrow at MLB. If Barrow is back next season, we'll be fine. If not, then we have Marshall. Washington may have to move inside, but Williams will work it out.
We'll be fine whatever happens. I like AP, but we can't just overpay every player that wants us to.
Besides, we have bigger concerns, and plenty of talent at LB.

If we resign AP then we wont have to worry about LB for years. Lets match it. And if we do, maybe we can cut Barrow? I dont know how much bonus money he got, so maybe its not doable with the cap, but imagine having all that money next off season...

I think pierce should definately be kept. Whether we can do that with the money we have is another story. I mean this guy did have a near pro bowl season last year, and we need a smart leader on the field for greg williams defense. If your out of position on a blitz you can really get hurt. That being said, I'm not sure if 5 million a year is worth paying him CONSIDERING the depth we have at linebacker. If we didn't have this much depth i'd definately hope the skins would match it.
Cutting barrow is another good point. I mean he did get a nice sized contract, why don't we give AP that money instead since he's the one that earned it last year. But again, don't know if we could do that financially. Either way I hope the skins can work something out with pierce because he seems to be a core redskin. He's come up through the ranks, waited his turn, played great ball when he got a shot and wants to stay with the team. We need to put our money where our mouth is this time fellas. Somebody's gotta pay these core skins

I like Pierce as much as all of you, but for that kinda of jack...NO. I congatulate him on his deal and let's move on. He wasn't even supposed to play this past year. Let's see how Barrow is doing and if he's healthy, then let AP make some jack in a different town. He'll be missed, but Williams can get us back on track.

Barrow is OLD, very OLD, and comming off a big injury, whereas AP could be around for years. Lets get the Long Term solution with AP

cutting barrow would count about the same on this years cap as his current salary and save us 3.14 next season.
I'll put it this way. I'd match the offer if these things are all true,
Barrow is not healing well still.
Williams really believes AP is special and not a system guy.
Marshall isn't good enough to be a 16 game starter.
Washington would be bad or wasted at MLB.
If any of these are false, then I'd let him go and go with what I have. I might let him go anyway and draft another LB. LB may be the deepest position in the draft this year....

Barrow is in his 13th year and he had all last season off. If he heals up right, he can play well for another 3 years. Remember, he's a beast when healthy.
AP is not a guarantee either. You also can't just sign guys cause you want to. We have a cap to deal with and having 15-20% of your cap tied up in starting linebackers is usually not a good plan...

OK, so cutting Barrow now means we can sign 2 big names next yr. Lets do it!
Whether or not Washington can play middle doesnt matter if Marshall isn't a 16 game started caliber player. Also, if we have an Extra LB, Arrington can move to DE... if we dont pick one up.

Yea, but people have been saying lets wait for Barrow he's a beast all last season. He never healed up, and we haven't head any good news about him like we have from Jon. We can't wait forever.

Luva, u r exactly right. Its a huge gamble to count on Barrow. Lets face it, even with a yr to rest, older players don't heal all that well. Time takes a toll.
As for tieing up the cap with LB saleries, remember Defense wins championships.

true, but we had the defense last year and we weren't anywhere near the chamionship game lol
I understand we can't wait on Barrow. But, if the coaches feel he's solid and Lemar is going to be as good or better as last year, I say let AP go...
I also want to see LA at DE. But if that doesn't work out because AP leaves, then we simply draft a stud DE with our first pick.
