All in all, if the team decides to get out from under Samuels contract, it only costs 6 mil this season and takes 11.3 million off the 2006 cap.

I always find it funny how people talk about us being in cap hell, yet we've never had to purge like San Fransisco or more recently the Titans. 2006 is our telling year. Were pretty far over the projected cap, but things like an extension for Samuels or just plain cutting him will immediately remedy that.

Snyder has done nothing to make me dislike him. Even the Deion signing while I hated it, wasn't that big a deal. Snyder is trying to win. That in a nutshell is all I care about. I've never had to endure a penny pinching owner, like Jeff Lurie, and I hope to god I never do...

At the start of the year, I always know we have a shot. Hasn't been much of a shot recently, but the shot is still there. The Eagles of old, Cincy of old, and currently the 49ers didn't/don't have a shot because of their owners. Snyder is moving in the right direction, especially now that Gibbs is here, and that's huge for me personally.
Eh, that came out wrong.

What I meant to say was that "If you want to be mad at someone, that someone should be Danny Boy".

I'm not mad at DS either. Maybe in hindsight you could say "he shoulda, woulda coulda.." but at the end of the day I'm glad he's our owner. You could do a lot worse and there are not many (if any!) I would prefer.

Danny gets a lot of points for bringing back Joe and allowing him to "manage" the team. This is going to work out well for us.

I think the FO is "managing" this offseason and we still have not heard the end of the Samuels' "deal" which is the big hurdle for the other key signings.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I'm not mad at Snyder at all. He puts his money where is mouth is, and shows the fans that he wants to win (however misguided his past dealings have been). Giving Gibbs complete discretion over players was a huge step in the learning curve for him. Furthermore, it is somewhat funny that all of these journalists like Pastabelly and Sally Jenkins feel compelled to blame Snyder for current problems like LC. Snyder was around the locker room less than ever this season because he was tired of being blamed for everything by the media. Despite his changes, he still is getting hammered. I have complete faith in Snyder to manage the cap situation so that we don't have to purge like San Fran and Tennessee.

On another note, we also do have some players with huge contracts who can still restructure. One of them is Brunell, who still thinks that he can play. Sooner or later he will be asked to restructure or he will be released because his cap number is too big and he can't play anymore. If they can get him to restructure and keep him on as a mentor, then this would be a great move I believe. We'll see what develops in the next month or so.

Maybe I was to harsh on Samuels. Now that he is going to be a Redskin, I wish him well. Hopefully he'll step up his game to an even higher level (which I already feel is really high) I am glad we didn't loose him but we can't be paying this much for players. Hopefully this ENDS with Samuels!

Too late... I already sent this thread to his personal e-mail address and I'm sure you'll make his "no autograph list"...

I can't say I was happy about the contract, but he is a Redskin and as such I support him 100%. Hopefully he'll continue to improve under Buges and help make the dirtbags a respectable unit.

I always said, "No one man is greater than the team", and that the only way I'd support keeping Samuels was if he renegotiated to help make the team better.
He's done that, and now has the biggest signing bonus ever awarded to a Redskin.
Is he worth it ? Time will tell. One thing is for sure.
He's a core Redskin who did the right thing.

Yeah, everybody does now.
I'm still going to be his biggest critic here, though. For all his good intentions and team-oriented money stuff, he still needs to be a little more than just a solid OL for that kind of money. I'm talkin' Pro Bowl type stuff.

$15,750,000.000 seems like a lot of money but giving it to Samuels made since.

He is saying us $3-5 million in cap space this year and his cap hit in '06 will be nowhere near the $11.32M that was scheduled. Samuels had $14,413,000.00 in base salary over the next 2 years so most of it was money already promised

That's 2 restructures and a extention .... it's going to be crazy next time around if he is still able to get the job done

He's pretty much gotten all he's going to get from Synder if he wants more he have to cash a Post season or Pro Bowl game check

Hopefully he'll make lots more money

I am rehashing this thread after Samuel's awful performance on Sunday. I can't believe we paid him that much money. From what I am seeing he is pretty average. But he's getting top 5 money. #-o

I thought you went to that extreme site for good???

This didn't make sense the first time you posted it but I can understand how you feel now. 15.7 Million sure seems like a lot now.

The whole team played like crap. It wasn't just Samuels. If you want to point the finger at someone point it at the whole freakin team except for our kicker, John Hall. That guy was freakin good!

Jake, I know you are a Samuels backer and I believe he is a solid tackle but he deserves criticism for his performances against both the Giants and Kansas City. He's making too much money to play like that. I'm not saying the losses are his fault, far from it, but when a player makes that much money he is fair game when he has bad games and Samuels has had two bad games. That kind of money better buy consistency and thus far this year, it has not.

I like Samuels, he's a great guy but he's overpaid and its not his fault. Its the fault of the front office.

Back on topic, Samuels is not playing well. I agree with Fios, if you get paid the money, expect criticism when you don't play well.

And then, of course, follow Brunell's example and show class when you force everyone to eat a big slice of crow pie.

Watch what you type. It may come back to haunt you, when Chris makes the Pro Bowl again.

Sometimes I don't know what the hell are you talking about. He hasn't looked good. Are you saying he is deserving of a probowl trip right now?
I like him. He restructured multiple times, good team player. But I would bet even he would say he has to sharpen his game.
