This time last year we were stoked that Joe Gibbs was back....but most of us were scratching our heads wondering why Gibbs traded away our 3rd round pick for the over the hill Mark Brunell.....then the block buster trade of Bailey and our 2nd round pick for Portis.

Maybe I have low blood sugar or something because I'm not worried about this at all. In fact, I think this is a great opportunity to improve our WR positions. Coles isn't the same player that he was a couple of years ago. He wanted out because he didn't want to repeatedly get rocked by Roy Williams on those 7 yard passes

. But seriously, if he doesn't want to be here and we can save a nice chunk of change on our cap, then adios Coles. Draft Mike Williams!!!!!!!!!! Even if we have to move up to get him.

Not only that but now we get a better shot at finding out what Jacobs and D-Mac are worth.....assuming we don't go hog wild and pick up two WR in Free Agency!

i agree...i think it's going to be an exciting offseason and i don't think it's the end of the world by any means...i can't wait to see ramsey throwing to some receivers that CAN catch. it's time for a new receiver corps...can't wait to see who we get

As Boss suggested if we can cut him without much cap ramification - then don't let the door hit him in the back. Whatever the problem I didn't see him get much seperation last year. We need receivers that will "go get the football" every down.

if you think so Smizzy. Go check out my recent posts about Coles, before this news broke, and you will see that I don't think he's a #1 with his foot injury, and I wanted a new #1 all along

I wanted Coles to get that toe fixed because I felt that he was a beast before he got injured.
Him and M. Williams would have been incredible.

Just wondering what you are basing those bold statements on. We have an o-line that cant block anybody, a qb that has been inconsistent thus far in his career, and after coles and gardner leave we wont have a single wr on our roster that deserves to start. Add to that the fact that there are no #1 type recievers on the free agent market, we're mostly likely going to a have a rookie (either williams and edwards) and a #2 type guy starting at wr. And you think that that is going to improve our offense??? Plus how many free agent WR want to come to DC after seeing what our passing attack looked like last year...
Well, I have a few reasons. When we add a good Center to our line and get Jansen back, that immediately makes our OLine very strong. Gibbs has a great running back who will bust out with that line. We have Ramsey who is right now a pretty good QB and with more coaching and time playing will be one of the best. He's got a great arm, great touch(once spurrier is totally gone from his head), is very smart and has the mastermind of offense behind him.
There are 3 #1 receivers on or soon to be on the market, including Burress, Porter and Mushim. Not to mention we may trade for one if we end up going that route with Coles. There are also quite a few guys out there like Patten, Givens, T.J, and Mason who would be excellent #2's. We will sign one of them, if not two, and we could always fall back on the draft if we have to. Why would WR's want to come here? I dunno, how about playing for one of the best coaches of all time, let alone one of the best offensive masterminds to have ever graced the field. Only twice in NFL history has an NFL team had 3 receivers go over 1000 yards in a season. Guess who one of those coaches was? You can think Gibbs can't do it again all you want, but when he does take the offense back to the top, make sure you bow down and take your licks...
What else do you need? Gibbs has done it before, and will do it again. Last season boiled down to 3 things on offense. Ramsey had to unlearn spurrier and learn Gibbs, Joe had to weed out the cancer, and Joe had to get used to his players and the new defenses. We will be a much better offense next year, and by year 3, Joe will have us firing on all cylinders.
It's so good to be this excited about football again. I can't hardly stand waiting for next season!

I'm thinking that this is what will happen. First, Coles is still owed 5 million of his bonus. It was a deferred payment. So basically, the Skins will have Coles restructure with no signing bonus and he will pay back 4.285( I believe this is what is left after the 5 mil) million of his signing bonus and not recieve the other 5. That would take care of his signing bonus, meaning if he is traded, we will take no cap hit. He will then have a preset contract ready to sign with the team we trade him to. That team will be whoever Coles had already worked a deal out with. That way, we get a straight up trade with another team and lose nothing.
I'm not positive that this can happen, but it seems to be what the redskins are thinking from what I've read. And I believe they think Coles will do it, because he will have control of where he goes, and we won't just release him and take a cap hit. If he wants to leave that badly, he HAS to do it basically. I also seriously doubt he would come back, since some of the players seem to be saying good riddance already.
