This is very sad. Hockey, while definitely not anywhere near my favorite thing, was something to watch while waiting for baseball to come back. I've got a US Pantload of buds who are going to be crushed by this. This time two days ago, they were comparing this to the 1987 NFL season. They were saying, "At least the NHL doesn't have scabs playing". That's probably unfortunate for hockey. The sight of replacement players on the ice might've been all it took for the union and/or managemenbt to concede something. I wonder if the true fans of hockey will ever forgive them this. For baseball, it took the McGwire/Sosa homerun derby to bring 'em back.
What'll hockey do now ?

Should I dignify such an assanine comment with an answer? ... it comes from the same guy that whined about his widdle sports ticker taking too wong to go acwoss the scween.

Twy pwessing the channel up and down button.

... as for whether or not anyone cares about hockey... I guess it would be pertinent to point out that this guy would say the same thing about soccer... and still act like he had a clue what he was talking about. There is a whole planet outside of the US of A... with people that don't share the same feelings, ideas, and passions.

I guess every one of THEM is wrong.

... the Hockey strike is the same to a Canadian as the baseball strike was to Americans... EXACTLY the same. Take that for what it's worth. It may require thinking outside of the 'American Box' to understand though.

My 2 cents

I know this wasn't directed towards me but I'd like to say that I apologize if I offended anyone. Yes, I am inside of a box and its not entirely my fault. Where I live/grew up we don't have ice rinks, or fields with grass and that aren't littered with potholes. I never really got to participate in any other sport aside from football, and the other usual sports.

I know if they took football away I'd probally cry and do something drastic.

That's right, the NFL has never had a strike.

Hey buddy!!! Tazlah already "hinted" at the second mistake. Did you spot the first one?

No?

Same thing. Either way it wasn't seen, and much like the Jedi Archives if it's not there than it doesn't exist.

Actually, They are two key words: "choose to". A volition act.

Most of the complains about hockey on tv in the USA are about NOT seeing the puck! So, among that "stuff" there are not too many pucks...

the puck, you must see young apprentice...

Also that the players names look like they were taken from a line in a word search puzzle.... silly Americans have problems remembering & pronouncing long names.... that's why we keep it simple... like Smith or Jones... not Hezchtaflagenkusht

I agree. Only Hockey players would come up with names such as:

T.J. Houshmandzadeh or Muhsin Muhammad on their jerseys

Hey man... I was just adding on to the ignorance of Americans and why they don't follow hockey as well as they do Football....

For every Housmadinger in the NFL there's 20 Smiths' or Jones'..... It's the other way around in the NHL...

Besides ... I'm one of the good guys... I like hockey... a little.. ;)

OK good guy, it is called an INTERNATIONAL sport. But what amazes me the most is that over the last few years the USA has put GREAT soccer and hockey teams in world championships...

... mostly to be ignored by most of the fans. :hmm:

When the USA plays a Latin American team in the USA there are more fans for the visiting team than for your own. It is beginning to look like FedEx field under Spurrier...

I can only speak for myself but Hockey locally has become extremely expensive. Scott's family supported the local team until the prices were just unbelieveable. His grandfather loved Hockey. He passed away last year and would have been so upset to see this happening. Before he passed they supported a local team because it was far more reasonably priced. But the team went under and with it their season tickets. I think that hockey is a great sport. Though much like Redskin's football it's become too expensive to go often.

well i personally don't like hockey...never really have, and i don't see myself changing my mind anytime soon...so them striking makes no nevermind to me...

but at the same time, i can respect the sport...these guys are so tough and are definate athletes, i just can't sit through a hockey game/match (whatever it is) to save my life...

there's nothing wrong with not liking a sport...it's the degrading or disrespect of the sport that pisses people off...

and to some people, tennis and golf are absolutely RIVETING...but god, if i had to sit that i'd go clinically insane...different strokes for different folks i guess, but nevertheless, they are ALL sports and the athletes that play them should command some respect

To chime in with what Nicki is saying... Hockey doesn't even exist in my area. I've never met one kid in my entire childhood who has played hockey. Aside from a lack of interest there aren't any ice rinks that are readily available. There are 2 rinks in the entire city that I know of. I don't think its offered as a sport in the city schools either.
