I was in my barracks room in "A" school. I had been in the navy for less than a year. There were a lot of Denver fans down the hall in the lounge and the first quarter their was a lot of cheering coming from the lounge. That was the only time the Denver fans cheered.
By the way in 83 when we won the Superbowl ALL of the DC area schools were closed because they expected everyone to be at the celebration pararade.

Didn't see any mention of Timmy Smith in this thread or in that clip. That guy ran for over 200 yards in that SB but never did a thing for us again...where did he go, why did he flop so badly? He was a hoss in that game. The clip brought back huge memories. I remember watching that game with a bunch of my friends in Germantown MD, going out at half and throwing the football around like Doug did...what a game, what an era it was!
To the one guy who posted in this thread who has only seen them since the mid-90's -- you're a real fan dude. I keep coming back hoping to re-live the 80's and early 90's...not sure I could still hang in if I were you. I respect you.
Go Skins!

Didn't see any mention of Timmy Smith in this thread or in that clip.
The clip showed the first long Timmy Smith run on the counter-trey, but skipped the second. The first went for the TD, and the second set up the TD pass to Clint Didier -- remember when Al Michaels said something like, "We're in Didier country", and, bang, they threw to Didier on the next play.
Dierdorf, who had swung 180 degrees from ridiculing the Redskins now said something like, "You know, Joe Gibbs was just trying to run out the clock", and, maybe later, after another Tim Smith counter-trey for 40 or 50 yards, said something like, "The Broncos look like they've never seen that play before! Everybody, repeat after me, 'counter-gap'".

Thank you and have a nice day....

The message has an obvious purpose to the newcomer. But I know that others may see it as well. Out of 1,635 registered posters we have 64 posts in support of Art's induction in the HOF. That is about 4% of the registered base and only a fraction of the amount of active posters in recent weeks. Four of the last 64 posts are the same and they come from Tug_72.
I suspect that this happens because several posters may link directly to the message boards and they do not stop over at the main page when they visit the site.
I understand the risk to annoy -some- posters who go through all the threads thouroughly. That is why I asked for lenience from the moderators. I do not want to start an argument on this issue. We all do what we think is best under the rules and we may have different ways to promote Art's cause.
Let me remind you that posters are not allowed under the rules of the site to add a link to their signature:
Rule 2, Paragraph 2:
Also, do not use this forum to promote any other web site or solicit the members of this board without the approval of the moderator(s). This includes promoting another site via a signature.
Signatures may not contain images or links. hailskins666 wrote:RIC, we'll bend the rules for this special occasion, and allow you to put the link to the thread in you sig as well.
does that meet the criteria of "bearing with ya"?
Yes, thank you very much. This is fine. I will only keep the link until the HOF selection is made by the end of the month.

enjoy. and prepare to shed a tear.
Thanks for that hailskins =)
I was about 18 years old when that happened. I was working in a bingo hall and was PROMISED that we'd have a bunch of big screens with the game on, so I agreed to work. Of course, they didn't have even one TV anywhere, so I missed the game. I cannot tell you how pissed I was. I told my boss, not so politely, how disappointed I was in him, and quit after my shift. Luckily for him, he didn't escalate the situation by making ANY remarks about it lol.
I still to this day cannot understand why I didn't quit immediately and go home to watch the game....
I've only seen highlights of the game much like this one, but it sure was great to see them again. It's been awhile.

I was sitting in a friends place watching (he was a Broncos fan) and my infamous last words at the end of the first quarter were " I hope we dont get blown out" thus completely Jinxing the broncos
So the real reason we played so well is that it was all my fault

No knock on the other fan sites you'll come across, including your own usual stomping grounds...but this is certainly the most interactive and well-staffed place around.
Hell, we even have a few decent Cowboy fans, and one good Eagle, too.
It's a lifesaver in the offseason, let me tell you.
Again, welcome to the boards. I can't tell you how many times your work has been referenced here, prompting many of us to go looking around for more. You're one of a kind.
Have fun knockin' around here.
