airhog i'll put my football knowlege up against yours any day.
I started this post to get people to stop saying "let's pick williams at number 9." It's 8:00am guys and here's the wake up call, he won't be there. I said that he'll go number one (and some of you thought it was crazy but i'm standing by it) because he's the best playmaker on the board.
First off there is no franchise qb in the draft. Second there aren't many playmakers out there. This draft is deep and talented on defense and deep on offense but there aren't many stand out guys. And everyone keeps talking about Williams sitting out a year but who cares. Would you not draft a future all pro because he sat out a year. If you have a high pick your team sucks anyways so its not like your going to be competitive. All that rust will wear off in a year that you weren't picked to win anything.
To those who say he wasn't ranked number one last year all I can say is that's because there were two franchise qb's ahead of him and a franchise tackle. In the nfl draft those are the two hardest things to find so they get top picks always. Fitz went to Arizona cause he's known denny green his whole life. Had williams been in the draft last year I still think Arizona woulda picked him up at three. He was on most people's boards above Roy Williams and Fitzgerald. And after seeing how those two did this year I think teams will fall in love with Williams.
Finally, the 49ers need offense. With no franchise qb out there they need a playmaking WR to put beside Brandon Llyod. That's why I said he'd go number one. So you can call me stupid all you want but let's wait til April and see if he's at #9 for us.
p.s. I'm a redskins fan true and true and i'd shat my pants if he fell to us at 9 and i'd love every minute of it but i don't think we should bank on it. Who knows tho, maybe that year of rust you guys keep talking about will have him slip after the combine. who knows
