guys, this is VERY exciting!

I can't believe people aren't pumped about this. This guy is a 37 year old former offensive coordinator, clearly he is very talented to be given that opportunity at a relatively young age. Now he's our QB coach to refine his skills. He's also got a different philosophy than Joe Gibbs which is a huge plus since he brings in new ideas.

Why is Joe Gibbs a "genius" as a head coach and yet everyone doubts his talent in selecting coaching personnel? Did we not see him get Gregg Williams?

This is a great move that I am sure will pay huge dividends.

I also love this move. If you read the article, Joe states that he is bringing this guy into the fold basically to pick his brain. Joe is looking to make his new offense, and he's getting ideas from a guy who teaches the west coast offense. He's got good experience as a player and a coach in the west coast offense. I think he'll be a great coach for Ramsey and a major help to Gibbs. I really like this hiring...

this hiring makes me very, very nervous, for the following reasons:

* if we start running a west coast offense, i will throw myself off a bridge. oh please god, no, do not let us run the pathetic, boring, cheesy west coast offense! there is nothing i hate more in all of football. ugh ugh ugh, barf barf barf.

1fan4ramsey wrote:I'm worried about the Brunell-Musgrave connection, any thoughts.

* yes. this is seriously terrifying. gibbs said "brunell's not done"- we all prayed this wasn't true, and hoped he was just trying to be polite to brunell, basically. but now he goes and gets brunell's old QB coach? please, god, i would rather see ramsey running the putrid west coast offense then ever see brunell back on the field, even in a good offensive scheme.

this fear is assuaged somewhat by gibbs' proclamation that ramsey will be the starter in '05 though...

now on the other hand, there is an encouraging aspect to this hiring. it suggests that gibbs really is "going back to the drawing board" and trying to get new perspectives about offense and double-check his schemes and see if he thinks he needs to change anything.
that's definitely what he needs to do, but it freaks me out that he brought in a west coast guy instead of a real football guy, who could help design real (vertical) passing schemes. it did seem this year like gibbs was trying to run a west coast system, with all those pathetic dinky passes to the sidelines for 2 yards.

in conclusion, PLEASE GIBBS, NOOOO! NO WEST COAST OFFENSE!

RETURN TO YOUR "AIR CORYELL" ROUTES! VERTICAL PASSING! VERTICAL PASSING! POWER RUNNING TO BRING THE DEFENSE CLOSE, THEN THROW DOWNFIELD OVER THEIR HEADS!

thank you, that is all.

I'm not being sarcastic at all, this is a great move, an offensive coordinator becoming just a QB coach. He may even blossom into a great offensive coordinator some day in the future for Head Coach Gregg Williams :)

Who's calling the plays...not the QB coach that's for sure? He's been brought in to help Ramsey only. Who better than a West Coast minded QB coach to teach Ramsey his check downs, quick decision making and patience in the pocket. He will learn to make better decisions with the ball. So when Gibbs does and WILL call for the deep ball and that guy is double or triple covered...maybe just maybe he might make a better check down decision, instead of just throwing up a prayer. Look no further than the last Eagles game when he tried to throw it to Cooley in the back of the end zone. Not only was he double covered but it was also 1st & 10 on the eagles 27. I can except that on 4th down but 1st, come on use your head, use a check down. Run it, throw it away or something we have 2 more downs or 3 if you go for it on fourth.
Bottom Line: Gibbs brought in Musgrave to help Ramsey and pick Musgrave's brain for new ideas only. All in all another great move by Gibbs.

I wouldn't mind having some of the elements of the West Coast system available.
Joe could be cooking up one big bastardized scheme that keeps everybody guessing.
The only problem is, Patches can't audible with causing seizures along the line. :)

Musgrave helped drive Brunell out of Jacksonville, Coughtlin liked and wanted to stick with Brunell.

I can't see any negatives to Musgrave at all. Can you imagine being in the same room with Joe Gibbs, kicking ideas around and going through the mixing pot to form a complete offense? Nothing against old folks, but it's nice to see a younger mind in the mix. I hope he brings a bit of the "River Boat Gambler" mentality to the team... somebody better.
