doesn't matter if your a bad influence on the other players practice habits, attitudes, and don't/won't play special teams...
Randy Moss scores a lot of TDs, do you want him on the redskins? I sure don't...

Well, I guess you'd have to show me something that supports your charges, bubba.
All I know is, when you throw him the ball, he catches the ball...and usually scores.

i don't think anyone can make a reasonable comparison between randy moss and darnerian mccants. moss is the most spoiled, whiny player in football (he's even worse than TO... at least TO never walks off the field before the game is over).
i also don't understand how anyone who saw what McCants can do last year could possibly want him gone from the team. the simple fact is he has the best hands on the team (by FAR), is a big target that works great in the red zone or as a "posession" receiver to pick up that 1st down and keep the chains moving-- but can still get downfield on occaison. one of the great mysteries of the 2004 season is why we didn't see more of McCants.
i truly hope we trade gardner (for a 2nd or 3rd round pick perhaps?) and bump darnerian up in the rotation. coles (especially when healthy), jacobs, mccants, and thrash should make for an exceptional (if not elite) group of WRs.

I was comparing guys who score TDs, that's all.
I want any guy who doesn't buy into and execute Joe Gibbs plan of restoring the redskins. I'm not saying that DMAC is one of those guys, just that it seems like he is and IF he is, then he will and should be gone.
I would also argue that

ey has the best hands on the team. If he continues to catch the ball the way he did all this season that is. I only saw him drop one catchable ball the whole season, and even that one was pretty high.
I would love to see DMAC in the starting lineup as well. That would be a signal that he is doing all the things Gibbs wants his guys to do and that Joe thought he was good enough to be there.

that's a good point, it may be true. i think what i meant to say was "McCants has by far the best hands of any
WR on the team".

Amen Niki !!!!! Oh and other than his ONE mistake....penalty...he did have a COUPLE first downs - I'm guessing we MISSED those ???

Wow!!! First downs.....and how many million does he get paid?
One mistake is huge when you only play a handful of plays all year.
I realize you are a fan of his, and I respect that, but think about the whole picture and that TEAM concept that Joe Gibbs wants.

On his first active game......I mean the first time he saw the field this year consisted of him doing very well. I don't know if anyone remembers or not, but it was against the Bengals. Ramsey and McCants hooked up on two catches for 40 yards. I consider that doing very well when you FINALLY get your chance.

I also think that D Mac is going to be here next year for all the reasons given. I mean there are a lot of reasons to keep him and we do not know anything that he has done to hurt his chances. He has not had much of an opportunity this year but he is signed and I think he's going to get another chance to be on the team.
The receivers are all under pretty intense scrutiny right now but this is a guy who will make it.
That being said, DM is going to have to show that he wants to stay (by his work ethic this off-season) and fortunately no writer will be deciding his future!!

Ugh....Army...they only put him in a few times total....and ONCE he made a mistake ... the other two or three....he made first downs when thrown to...the rest of the time...they used him as a decoy for running plays.

I like McCants but if we're not going to us him he needs to go. He doesn't need to warm our bench when he could be starting for someone else. That IMO is a disservice to him because we're wasting his career.

SkinsChic is not gonna back off on D-Mac, and neither will I. I said it before. He's the new Rickey, given half a chance. I think if you gave him some playing time, and made him feel like part of the team (money doesn't always equate to that, you know) he'd be a more flexible player.
Two cents.

Maybe thats part of the problem, since he has never gotten any real playing time he doesn't feel putting forth effort will change that. Maybe he tried his all before and it got him nowhere... I dont know.

He's probably feeling pretty useless these days, watching Gardner drop ball after ball and not even getting a shot.

Yea, I can't say I wouldn't feel the same way. Hopefully he'll get a shot this year.

You got that right TC....he's sick of watching that crap when he KNOWS (as we do) that he can be a big contributor to this team ! We saw it before....and Gibbs admitted Darnerien is a playmaker, etc....so....let's let him in the game to MAKE SOME PLAYS !!!!!!!!

I equate this situation to the Ramsey thing. For some reason Gibbs didn't have faith in Ramsey. He was pretty much forced to put him in due to Brunnell's horrible performance. I am hoping that it doesn't take the injury of a WR to bring McCants to the fore front. You'd think Mr. Drop the Ball Gardner's performance would be good enough. LOL

I don't know Niki...sometimes I think...he drops 5 balls....makes 1 great catch...and all the dropped balls are forgotten. It's a little like only noticing one penalty from Darnerien. Something is just not right about that. We will see what happens...I just hope he will get a chance to play...be it here or somewhere else. It's no fun sitting on the side watching your team go down the toilet when you know you could make some plays and help them out. Not trying to say he would have been the whole solution to our problems but I do believe that he would have definately added some much needed spark.

well, if Gibbs is borderline on Dmac, then Dmac better be in there selling himself. Joe will want to know that Dmac has the drive and desire to do what Joe needs done. Just guessing, but I'm starting to think that Joe is testing Dmac. Who knows, mebbe Coles and Gardner will be gone and Dmac and Jacobs will be our new #1 and #2. Everything we say is purely guess work here. We just don't have any facts at all....

All this, and I just have to believe that there's something out there in the Gibbs-McCants relationship that I don't know about.

Right. Gibbs follows the Godfather approach: "Sonny, don't
ever let anyone outside the family know what you really think".
We know that only a few things lock a player in Gibb's Chateau-Bow-wow (and, sorry, GF, I had the title wrong. That was in "Howliday Inn"...just to be threadly obscure). He laughed along with John Riggins, and he worked with Dexter Manley until Dexter destroyed himself.
The only player I remember, meaning that we read about later, that Gibbs tossed away was Stan Humphries. That was special. Once more for those who couldn't follow the '91 Skins closely: Gibbs was ready to give up on Mark Rypien, much as he respected Rypien's willingness to jump into the fire -- no preparateion -- when Doug Williams went out two years in a row. Rypien kept fumbling when he was sacked...he seemed to have no sense when the green-shirted monsters like Reggie White were about to hit him; he didn't cover the ball properly and take the sack. Gibbs was losing patience.
Humphries had a stronger arm than Rypien, which is saying something, and Humphries could move, plant, and release quickly. Humphries could even duck and dodge the rush somewhat, although he was no Randall Cunningham scrambler.
Humphries split time with Rypien in '90, and showed an unfortunate tendency to throw hard passes into triple coverage for interceptions. By the way, my guess is that Gibbs and Breaux and Bugel studied the films, and wondered if Ramsey might have Humphries judgement with Rypien's footwork.
Rypien finished the season as starter because Humphries was banged up. See the "body bag" game.
We read later that Gibbs went to Humphries at "locker cleanout day", and said, Doug, I want you to lead the team. Go home, study the play book, and take us to the Super Bowl.
Rypien, meanwhile, signed a medium-sized one-year contract, and went home with some of the same feelings, I think, that Ramsey had last year.
In camp, Rypien showed up in top shape, and he had studied the playbook so much that he knew it as well as Gibbs.
Humphries showed up twenty pounds overweight, and had studied nothing. Humphries spent the camp partying, while Rypien spent it studying.
Early in pre-season...maybe before the first game, Gibbs promoted Jeff Rutledge, a mediocre QB and decent holder, to second string. Rypien won the job, and was MVP of the Super Bowl. I'm not sure that Humphries played a regular-season down, and he was immediately traded.
So...a player has to behave like Stan Humphries to get frozen out by Joe Gibbs.
**
Back to the topic. I think McCants can make the team next year. He probably needs to block and tackle, and there may be other things Gibbs wants but don't give up on McCants.
(For my part, even when I watched those excruciating Spurrier games, I would think, hey, McCants stands out.)

If he is traded, released, etc. what are the cap ramifications? Didn't Baltimore want him to sign with their club? Perhaps we can somehow trade D-Mac & one of our linebackers for their #52.

chances are gibbs has some genuine issue with mccants- not practicing hard enough, not working at special teams, whatever it may be. i find that hard to believe from when i've seen mccants speak though, he seemed like a really good, intelligent guy that really wanted to work to become a great WR. but obviously gibbs has a much better look at his work ethic than we do.
i have some pure speculation here though-- maybe gibbs had a big question this year, about rod gardner. maybe he looked at gardner, then at mccants, and thought "they are very similar WRs. big targets to make the possession downs, who also have enough speed to get down the field sometimes". maybe he was worried that gardner drops a lot of passes and seems kind of lazy out there sometimes, whereas mccants is still "raw" in many ways but almost never drops a pass, etc.
so you put all this together, could he have made the decision to use this year to "test" gardner and see whether he was worth continued development? now that he's seen that gardner is always going to be inconsistent, might he trade him away and give mccants the chance to really develop in '05?
i sure hope so, anyway. i will be really upset if we get rid of him. he'll be one of those guys that goes away and has a great career elsewhere.
