Larry English to the Chargers. I had him ranked over Orakpo too. Him and especially Brown were so dang fast and instinctive. Orakpo just isn't as explosive, and when you combine that with his injury history...

Yay Orakpo, this is good. Didn't think he would be there at 13.

How did we get so lucky?

The Jets swooped in to get Sanchez, then Orakpo slips to 13, and then Snyderatto actually makes a pick of need!

Scottskins wrote:Our OL is already improved from last year with the Dockery signing and better luck with injuries this season. We are also in year two of Zorns playbook, and just Zorn himself having a year under his belt. His 2nd half playcalling was just as much an issue as the team play. I think our offense will be better this year(think as good as we were at our best last year) and our defense will dominate. We might be able to take the East this season.

Great pick Danno!

absolutely happy about the Orakpo pick - but I am just amazed that some here think we are going to be a very good team this year - yes, we are going to have a very good defense but our offense needs a lot of help.

I also am kind of mystified that some think we are even close to having an offense that can consistently score points - I guess the really good news is we picked the best player and were we ever lucky this guy fell to us.

We still need to keep all of next years picks because I think we'll have 3 in the top 70 to 75 picks

We have a lot of picks next year, but unless Campbell has a great season AND is willing to re-sign, he's gone and we'll be looking for a franchise QB. So if someone is available in a trade or FA great, but if not we're gonna be trying to trade up next season for a QB.

That's part of the reason I'd like to see the Redskins take a flyer on a QB late in the draft.

I wish we had gotten sanchez too man. I'm also not a huge Orakpo fan.

Campbell will improve this year though (if we can protect him, let's hope that's the focus now), and Snyder will pay whatever it takes to keep him. I think : )

If Campbell has the sort of season we all think he's capable of that would be great and Snyder will find a way to keep him - but we are not going to have to worry about that, we'll just keep him as our back-up while the new guy gets ready - who knows, we could even be in the running for Tim Tebow

I think we are going to be better than most people here think. People forget that we were a pretty good football team through the middle of the season last year. I think injuries, Zorn going conservative like he did in the 1st Giants game, and the players actually giving up are why we played so poorly the last 8 weeks. I believe Zorn will be much better this year, We won't be so unlucky with inuries, our defense will be attacking instead of defending(better field position and more opportunities) and yes, I think Campbell will be better. I also think Devin and Malcolm will both be a big part of the offense this year too.

I'm not saying we will win the Superbowl, but if the defense is as good as advertised, we could win the division.

now we have to hope that the other picks are also going to be helpful to our team.

at least we have 4 more right now.

Anyone know anything about Orakpo's character? Please tell me he's a quality guy, not TO like...

I love the pick. I liked Ayers a little better, but all the experts had this guy as a top 5 or 10 type player. So at 13 we got a steel.

BUT I want to caution everyone! DE's almost never have a good first season. Everyone says that about WRs (and it is somewhat true for them) but DEs almost never play well their first year.

He played mostly on the rt side of the DL, which is where Carter plays. So do we just use Orakpo on passing downs and Daniels or Wynn on 1st and 2nd. That would ease him in and then he could do one thing, pin his ears back and rush the passer! :D

an Orakpo search shows our main worry will be his injury to his knee in 07. hopefully its not something that becomes injury problem

The Eagles trade up two spots for Macklin. I don't think that was necessary but they're getting McNabb some weapons. I wonder if that means the Boldin interest is gone.

would you trade next years first and this years third to move up here and grab OHER too?

Harvin is available, will Detroit be able to resist? I'd take Oher or Pettigrew

I think Zorn will be a much better coach and I think Campbell will be better also - we just have a very old line and we need a QB that is much better than Campbell is capable of being

I disagree with your perception of this team, last year. We were not a very good team the first half! We had a great performance from Portis but we should not have beaten Arizona, Dallas or the Eagles - they played badly, we were definetly not the better team and later in the season we barely won a couple of games we should have easily won IF we were even half way decent and we got beaten by a Bengals team that in my mind was one of the worst teams in the NFL.

The amazing thing is we almost gave away 2 #1 picks for 1 player - we are quite along way from being a very good team let alone competing regularly for the Super Bowl.

also, it is official... we will still be able to score on detroit in week 3. they have once again ignored the defensive side of the ball.
