I like Lavar....but only as a team player.

My only question is.....

If they "knew" in their minds they wanted to get rid of him, they had the chance with the contract dispute. Why fight to keep him? Just say it is void and let him out of the contract. I realize they may want to get some value for him and not just let him go, but now he is in this huge contract that will just kill our cap (even with the expected CBA next year) by trying to cut him, or by working a Coles type of deal.

Something has to give at some point. We dump him or we play him. I don't see him sitting on the bench all year.

...to say he doesn't deserve any respect is ludacris.

I think you got he wrong Lu, my friend. This guy has nothing to do with Skins football.

But, if you wanna talk "ludicrous", let's talk about the following:

nuskins wrote:The situation is just ridiculous and there is some real power moves going on here, not just "schemes".

Power moves?? Based on what, your assumptions???

Remember how "we" assumed Mark would choke against the Cowpies, only to witness one of the greatest moments in Redskins History? Let's not make the same mistake twice in one season, by doubting the way Lavar's situation is being handled.

Lavar has done tremendous things for this team throughout the years he has been here and it's really telling how so many of the blind faithful here have turned on him. To me it all points to the head office, it reeks of personal ego and the fans should expect some answers.

Let's not forget how "evil" that front office has been by making him the highest paid defensive player on the team. Yeah, what a bunch of jerks!!!

I think Lavar has earned the respect of many fans, coaches, and players throughout his career here...

He'll never lose the fans, because he panders to 'em at every turn, which, IMO, is a wise PR move for the guy. He is beloved by "his fans", but fans that see the team as a unit see that his actions & words indicate that he has not grasped the team concept. It's hardly "ludacris" or even "ludicrous" to think this guy's tenure as a Skin is over.

With that being said, here's to Lavar becoming a part of this team once again!!!

I think, I think...seems to me that most of you are maybe very close to being right about what has (OR has not) happened. Fact is these 2 guys, Williams & Gibbs know what is happening "on and off the field", if you will and they do have the team at 3-0. As has been said before - mostly because who we were playing "lost" and not because we are a dominating team. We are playing well enough to win and we are playing with fewer mistakes = 2 penalties against the Seahawks!

Gibbs and Williams are very much in charge and in control of this team and Snyder is letting them do whatever they want to. IMO we will see that a lot of the concerns of today with Arrington will be not well founded by the time this season is done. I also feel that Arrington will be with this team next season as well. Primarily because we will not be able to "get" what he is worth but more importantly because he will be helping this D.

Arrington will be a team player for these 2 guys (and for us fans. He loves that scene too much! My 2 cents

Redeemer,
I thought someone would pick that up! Luda, Luda..

Anyways, I am making assumptions here as are most of us in this thread and as I have said they could be completely unfounded. However, the comment made by Bram yesterday regarding how he would like to find out who's really in charge I thought brought a little credence to my argument. If one of the organizations "reporters" can't figure out who is in charge I think that making the blind statement that Gibbs runs everything is just as much an assumption as I made regarding Snyders meddling.

But everyone knows what happens when you ASSUME somthing!

I just hope this gets worked out quick, we need Lavar in the lineup.

Hail Redskins!

He would play special teams if they asked him too. But why would they ask the "franchise player" to play special teams when he is coming off a serious knee injury. Why not work him back slowly after such a major injury. It's only week 3, there is a lot of season left. LaVar is not finished in the B&G.

The fact is I do not think he will be seeing the bulk of the snaps at any point this season. For some reason GW doesn't feel as though he fits the system. And with the results we have been getting out of our D thusfar he may be right. I just hope he doesn't end up in Pittsburgh. He would make that defense amazing.

I really hope you are right, but his playing time has decreased in each of the last three weeks. It sure looks like they are phasing him out, not phasing him in.

Arrington practiced a little with the D line today...

Awesome news and the fact that we need to pressure the QB more is really awesome. I hope he can make some big plays and shut up all the #56 haters!!

http://redskins.scout.com/2/448280.html

In the portion of today’s practice that the media was allowed to watch today, LaVar Arrington was with not the linebacker group, not the special teams, but with the defensive line. During what was more an on-field chalk talk than an actually drill, Arrington watched with his helmet off as defensive line coach Greg Blache went through proper alignments and initial reads for the line. As the rest of the defense joined the line on one of the far fields at Redskins Park, the media was asked to leave, so obviously we can’t tell exactly what he did or where he lined up. Stay tuned.

I have a feeling were in for some big suprises this sunday... and i'll say that's a good thing.

With his size, speed and strength, do you guys think he can play DE well and get to the QB faster? Swim past the tackle and punish plummer?

Redskins D-28th in turnover differential
Redskins D-29th in sacks
Redskins D-tied for 3rd in scoring, 16th in passing yds allowed per game, 5th in rushing yds allowed per game
Redskins-(3-0)

Lavar Arrington-22.5 sacks, 3 interceptions, 30 passes defensed, 10 forced fumbles

Ok, i believe these are the relevant stats. First, the good things. The team is 3-0, and the D has been playing well. Note, well, not great. Why do I say that? Look at the D's classified as great recently-the Bucs, the Ravens, etc.
These D's all did what we do plus create turnovers, sacks and occassionally points. If we want to elevate our D to great, we need to do exactly that.
Now, I don't care if Lavar stays or goes, as long as Gregg Williams can add that element to our D. If the answer is Lavar, then great. If not, we have to find someone that does.
Either of these conclusions supports the idea that lavar needs to be playing. In order to determine whether his abilities gel with our D to create this needed element, the coaches need to see him on the field in real life action, not just practice. If we intend to bring in someone else, Lavar is still going to be crucial as the trade bait that we're going to need. And the only way to ensure that Lavar gets traded for anything close to his worth is for other teams to not have the certainty that we're going to cut him and that he is still the animal he once was.
I've heard a lot of people on this board chant for Kiwi or Abraham. Abraham is out, unless the Jets are morons. And how do we plan to get the #1 rated D-end in the draft without a 1st rounder? If we're not going to use lavar to get sacks and turnovers, we need to use him to get our 1st rounder.
I agree that it's great that the skins are 3-0. It shows, most importantly, that there is an attitude change, on both the part of the players and coaches. But our D has been the motivating force in all of those wins. However, without this added ability, and considering the effect our lack of a pash rush has on our pass d (see the 2nd half of last game), can we count on teams not just spreading us out and throwing on us? Isn't that exactly what the Giants and Eagles have doing all through the beginning of the season? Pressure makes the passing game hard, and we need it...we need it bad. However the coaches want to use lavar is fine, b/c it is their perogative. But that perogative must be exercised to make the team better, not to satisfy personal grudges. If the team is punishing him for speaking out, then that's ridiculous. If the man believed the team rushed him back to soon, why shouldn't he discuss it? If he thinks they screwed him on a contract, then why can't he address that? The fact is that right now, if he's healthy, the coaches should be using him in a way that maximizes his talent and the overall D. Considering the praise heaped on G Williams, I'm sure that he can do that.

It's about time..... Lavar is a "L.T. Type" of player and they should have been using him as a defensive end from the start. Health aside, he should have been with the D-Line anyway. They are doing it with Suggs up the road, Ware in Dallas, and Kearse and Freeney are basically heavier LBs, speed rushing the corners.

If they insert him in as a DE, he will cause O-Coordinators to rethink their game plans because of his athletic threat on the end. Look at what happened to Baltimore with Freeney (Colts) rushing the corner against Ogden. He ate Ogden's butt up so bad that Jamal Lewis was left open for a crunching hit by Freeney in the backfield. Insert Lavar at DE, and then you have two ball-hawkin' freaks in him and Taylor on defense. Turnovers are bound to happen.....

Yes!!! Suggs up in Baltimore gives them a legitimate threat at DE and he only weighs 13 pounds more than Lavar. His speed and strength will give the tackles fits trying to handle the speed....

I think GW should put Lavar and Clemons on the same side, and rush like that. Either one could be a down linemen, with both of these guys speed somebody will get through. I want Sean to roam the middle more for some big hits and some INTs.

Arrington as a defensive end is very comparable to Charles Haley. Same weight, Haley two inches taller.

There is no way he can play the position every down (not without adding at least twenty pounds) but he can be incredibly effective on passing situations. It's all a matter of how much he embraces the role.

Maybe we've found a niche for him in this D after all?

I can see the fear welling in Jake-the-Snake(turd) as we speak!

Lavar was in at DE a few times on Sunday and didn't get to the QB. Perhaps he can do better if he is used on more downs, but if I recall he didn't like playing DE under Lewis...

From Gregg's chat on that other "official" board:
Gregg Williams wrote:Lavar’s got a very good team attitude right now and he’s working very, very hard to get back playing at a level that helps us win games. He’s improving daily, and he’s improving weekly and he will play more. But it’s more important that the team is playing well, and how you fit in with the team. He’s doing his part, and believe me, when he’s up to speed and he’s playing at that level, he’ll play as much as we can get him on the field.

I cannot believe everyone is talking about Lavar at D-End...He is a LINEBACKER!!!! A linebacker that is very versatile. Yes, we can deploy some defensive end schemes, but for the most part we should mix it up and have Lavar play everywhere! He is that good! Did you all see the game against Chicago when he came in the line-up with the crowd noise at Fed-Ex and caused fear for the Chicago line which resulted in three back to back to back false start penalties...Now that my friends is a BEAST of a player to cause that much havoc on a professional football team. Who do I need to talk to, to get this ball rolling for LAVAR...If Lavar starts I linebacking corps would inject fear every week on opponents. Just for the mere fact of facing TWO STUD PRO-BOWL LINEBACKERS trying to crush anything in sight!

Yeaaaaaaaa. Lets crush teams and get tons of turnovers and sacks. Lavar is an Intimidator like Sean, we need more of that, our D is good but not scary.
