1) How difficult it is to find a starting quarterback.

And

2) How difficult it is for the Redskins to find starting quarterbacks.

Because of those factors above all others I think they overpay to keep Cousins a Washington Redskin.
Bingo. We have a winner.

What do you mean by winning???? Because we just finished with back to back WINNING seasons for the first time in 20 years.....
SkinsJock wrote:what is driving up Cousins market value is those stats and MOST IMPORTANTLY who else is available - if a lot of current QBs were available, Cousins market value would not be near as high as it is
No --- there are a TONS of QBs available. Cousins, however, is the only FRANCHISE QB available ---- and that is what is driving up the price. Franchise QBs make franchise $$$$. A number of teams are willing to pay him franchise money because he's shown that's what he's worth.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good argument, mark. 26 FA QBs available. Numbers are yards, passing TDs, games played. Really hard to understand why Cousins is commanding so much more money and interest than the rest.

Case Keenum 2,201 9 10
Shaun Hill 242 3

Blaine Gabbert 925 5 6
Matt Cassel 284 2 4

Ryan Mallett 26 4
Christian Ponder
Mike Glennon 75 1 2

Thanks - that's a great list of QBs - I rest my case

Cousins value is not based on what he did as much as what else is available - he had a great year stats wise but I doubt that this FO will pay him stupid money - more than he's worth, possibly, but not $25M+ and not so much that they cannot sign everyone else

we don't need him that bad and he's not that good - tag the man and let the search begin

The tag is $24m. But $25m is too much.

Cool logic, bro.

WTF????? Things are getting confusing.

Riggo --- I am not sure how to interpret your post, but I believe it is to prove my assertion that there are MANY QBs available, just not franchise ones.

Skinsjock --- I have not clue what you are saying or how Riggo's post and the 26 (14 of which were one-time starters) currently available FA QBs supports your assertion that:

So, did skinsjock just disagree with himself??? I know he's done this before ---- but come on, get yourself together. And as riggo JUST said ---- Cool logic, bro

On a side note ---- I was invited to a party where I was told Cousins may also be attending here in Houston. I seriously considered going with the sole purpose of showing up, introduce myself to Cousins (hopefully with some sort of random/hollow third party introduction), and casually pry/get a read on his opinion of the contract situation ---- and then leave. That being said, I HIGHLY doubt he would have divulged any useful information to a complete stranger; hell, for all I know he didn't even attend and it was just an incentive by the invitor for me to go, but unfortunately I wasn't able to make it.

Cousins was possibly a "no show" - really? must have been like a big game!

my point was that Cousins FMV is more because there's nobody close to being a decent QB (EXCEPT for Cousins) on that list - not even close

OR - why not go to $30M  - why not ask this question another way - IF Cousins would play here for $25M (with a franchise he really wants to play for) why not play here for $24M?

Who says he won't? I'm not saying that. You're setting an arbitrary number on what Cousins should be paid. The number in a long term deal could actually end up being $23m a year depending on how its structured. Its not super relevant.

The most important numbers IMO are the guaranteed $$ (to Cousins) and the number of years before the team could get out of the deal if its not working out.

that's my point - no matter what the deal is, I hope that Cousins shows that he wants to play here and let's us give him a super contract that might be a little less than what he can get elsewhere ... just like our FO is most likely giving him a little more than he's really worth

we shall see
