These teams (Steelers & Colts) are not showing anything defensively and Mike & Kyle will make the starting QB choice based on these guys ability to get it done against guys that are trying to make the Redskins roster NOT against pansy defenses like we've seen the last 2 'games'

I this is true, why do we play preseason games?

For the vets pre-season is to get into some game rhythm and break up the monotony of playing your own D every day, it's not really to assess your vets other then maybe some specific things they are working on. Jock's right the jockeying for starting positions is mostly in practice. Mostly pre-season is to assess the young players under game conditions who are trying to make the team.

For us though there is a little more to it because of the circumstances. Our D needs to play together because of the major overhaul and our O line needs to gel more under game conditions. And obviously our QB's don't have much starting experience with us and can use reps as well with the O. But still they aren't really about starting jobs being won on the pre-season field.
Hail to the Redskins!

For the same reason why football clubs in the UK play pre-season friendlies .. .....to stiff the fans for a few more bucks.

The Colts may not be trying to win preseason games, but you can bet their players are trying to win jobs. They darn sure tried to rush the QB. They sacked Beck three times and hurried him or forced him to move around quite a bit. Did you see the one DT that almost swiped the ball out of Beck's hands - He held on to it and hit Stallworth for a 25 yard gain. Last week, we never got to see Grossman under pressure. We did against the Colts. He didn't play as well.

You are right that Grossman's experience means a lot. He didn't play as well as last week, but he was working with the second team, so that may have thrown of fhis rhythym. Shanny is willing to get Beck that game experience even if in the short run, Grossman is better.

They are also trying hard to get a quarterback NOT named Manning ready for the regular season. There is serious concern that Peyton may not be ready. They know that Painter is currently their only real plan B, and want him to go into the season feeling competent and confident, just in case he has to go as the starter for a few games...
