If I understood correctly the rules, as they stand right now due to the legal situation, make this trade NOT possible.
This was one of the points they made at the beginning of the Draft show in the NFL Network.

Wish they had taken Dalton. Well maybe that's one more qb for top of 2nd rd teams to go after before Mallett. We're going to need to move up to get our guy still it looks like.

He must get off the line quick. On almost every play, the lineman is trailing him as he makes the tackle. He knows how to strip the ball too. I know Haz likes that!

Here's another thing to look at. Explosion numbers. Anyone who values Pat Kirwin, which I do, knows he looks at explosion numbers for LB's first and foremost. Kerrigan's explosion numbers are excellent, in fact the highest at his position this year.

By comparison
Orakpo had a 81.3
BJ Raji had a 73.6
Brian Cushing had a 75

I think it is still up in the air.

No. NFL said no trades for players during the draft.

I just LOVE moving back in the draft. I wish we could've traded back again, but I'm happy with Kerrigan. Sooo happy we didn't take Gabbert though! I don't want Mallet either, but would be happy with Dalton, if he falls....Great start to the draft IMO. Wishing a player on your team to not succeed? Talk about an EGO....Must be a closet cowgirl fan...

I agree on the quickness.... against COLLEGE LEVEL opponents. NFL Tackles are not going to get speed-rushed like that. He doesn't have much in the arsenal in terms of moves from what I've read about him. High motor, low skill set. I also don't see anything about him being able to cover a back or TE. GREAT we'll have matching bookend OLB's who can't cover at all. We're gonna see those little flare routes to the backs go for 60+ yard TD's all season long.
Besides the stripping and speed rush are only useful if Hazlet finally takes the leash off the defense and decides to get AGGRESSIVE (which he didn't do anywhere near enough for my tastes last year).

This is not going to make you feel better.
Tough competition
Purdue DT Ryan Kerrigan isn't standing out, but he's playing well and remember, he's going against the top two OTs here in Colorado's Nate Solder and Wisconsin's Gabe Carimi. He showed quickness and power but didn't see the ability to counter once he got caught by those two.
http://www.hogshaven.com/2011/1/25/1955 ... olb-purdueI hope Shanny is right with him, because - We got him!
they're more interested in him as a rush LB than a DE. they didn't draft this kid to stop the rush, but rush the pass
Thanks, that makes me feel better. I didn't realize that those "Tough Competition" comments were from the DE position.
You still thinking Mallet?
Man, the guy can't run, so I hope not, but it's down to him and Dalton. I hope Dalton
I am hoping Dalton too, but I don't think he gets past Seattle.
How about I re-state my question, are you thinking that Shanny is thinking in Mallet?

I will say yes just to stick with my call

Dalton still has to get through Buffalo, Cincy, Arizona, and SF. I am thinking that Buffalo won't go with him. I am thinking one of the other three get him.

Adam Schefter
Ravens were ready to make a deal with the Bears, then Chicago balked and clock ran out, causing Baltimore to miss its turn.
