If we're going to bring in mediocre WR's we might as well give Mix a good shot....

Cerrato is excited about the potential of wide receiver Anthony Mix (6-5, 235 pounds), who was signed off the New York Giants' practice squad in November.
In the WCO, theoretically you have a system that is more geared towards getting the ball to wideouts by spreading the ball around more; by not being so TE/RB centric. I think that's what Skinsfreak is trying to say. However, you're also absolutely correct in that we have no idea how Jim Zorn's WCO offense works.

Fabini???? The guy is a bum!
Why do people invariably feel a need to toss insults at some of these players. While he may seem marginal, I'd ask...
How many pro football player contracts have YOU signed in your life? Have YOU ever even been offered one????
Point? He may not be adequate to play line with the Redskins, in your (probably most) opinions... but I guarantee, he'll kick YOUR butt if you choose to go one on one with him (not the other way around).
Have a little respect. He has done what most of us only dream of.

Let's read your original statement again:fleetus wrote: I say, if D.J. costs more than mediocre $$ (salary + bonus in guaranteed money - approx. 1-1.5 mil/year) then it is a bad move.
That reads salary + bonus as 1-1.5 mil/year to me....Sorry to be so callous.
No sweat, I don't take things on an forum personally.

Would you care to suggest any other reasonably priced, multiple position offensive linemen who know the tendencies of the players on either side of them? They don't exist. Fabini has 127 career starts, including 13 games for the Redskins last season. That means he was starting for all of the games during the Redskins winning streak. I didn't hear anyone complaining then. In fact, we were damn lucky to have him with all of the injured linemen.

Redskins Bring Back Boschetti On D-Line

Ryan Boschetti
The Redskins have re-signed defensive lineman Ryan Boschetti, the team announced on Wednesday.
Boschetti, 6-4 and 305 pounds, completed his fourth season with the Redskins, but he saw action in just one game last year.
He is expected to provide depth along the defensive line.
Few players are as energetic and gung-ho at practice as Boschetti. It's a characteristic that Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Blache believes transfers to others in the locker room.
Boschetti joined the Redskins as an undrafted rookie out of UCLA in 2004. For his career, he has played in 19 games, with two starts, and logged 15 tackles (eight solo).

I was complaining ever time I saw him play. In fact there was a play in the playoff game where Fabini only used one hand to try and block Patrick Kearney. He got his butt whooped repeatedly.
He played on the Cowboys team and got cut. Then guess who signed him??
In fact he was a third string tight end on the Cowboys team then they cut him.
Yet the Skins have him put on some weight and think he can make a good lineman?????? Whatever! Your type of thinking is what keeps the Redskins in the toilet.
I offer championship minded thinking. Get with the program people or you will just be mediocre forever.
You have no idea what I do for a living. In fact you have no idea whether I played for a national Championship team or whether I am a garbage man.

Who didn't get abused by Patrick Kerney last season? That has to be the absolute worst possible example of why you think Fabini "sucks". Kerney had 14.5 sacks last season. Apparently, a whole lot of offensive linemen "suck". Either that or Kerney is a really gifted defensive lineman.
Nobody is saying Fabini is Russ Grimm. He simply isn't anywhere near the bottom of the offensive lineman barrel.
The Redskins could have pissed away a fortune for Alan Faneca but I'm sure people would have complained about that, too. We can't have it both ways. Either the Redskins keep reasonably priced players and build through the draft or they sell the farm and the cow for pro-bowlers who underachieve. Those are the options. I'll take option A for the veteran minimum, Alex. And the answer is: "Who is Jason Fabini?"

Sooooooo...
How many downs have you played for an NFL team?
I thought so.
My point still stands. You have no standing to insult these guys, just because you'd prefer to see better players in their stead.

I have seen him do more bad plays then positive. In fact I cant even remember when Fabini did a good play. He always gets pushed around everytime he is in the game.
Why even sign a low to mediocre player? Makes no sense whatsoever.
Some people dont realize that weak players are liabilities on the field. Opposing teams will just exploit the weakness. Whichever side Fabini is on.
I hope he somehow makes me eat my words. So far he has proven me right.

Well I am pretty sure you insulted players many a time. So throw your stones at someone else. Last time I checked this was a country which grants free speech. I choose to exercise that right.
Since you have never coached, played or been a GM in the NFL? I guess you can never make any criticism about any NFL employee. Wow great logic.

You do realize that Fabini wasn't, and to my knowledge still isn't, a starter, right?
He was also playing on a line decimated by injuries, so it wasn't like he was surrounded by starters.
Sure, he was in no risk of being in the pro-bowl, but everyone will tell you, you don't spend more money on your back-up players than your starters.
And yes, teams certainly do go for the weak spot, so they threw everything they had at him, because his side of the line consisted of two back-up players throughout most of the year.

HACKETT GETS OFFER FROM ‘SKINS
Posted by Mike Florio on March 13, 2008, 4:50 p.m.
Seahawks receiver D.J. Hackett visited the Redskins, got an offer, and didn’t accept it.
According to the Washington Times, Hackett will explore other options before making a decision.
“This will all be up to him,” coach Jim Zorn told David Elfin of the Washington Times. ”We’re not going to risk it all to try to pay him. The financial package has to work. But if we have a chance to get him, we’d like to have him. He’s got two other teams plus Seattle that wants to match [his contract offers].”
It’s a dramatic change in approach by the Redskins to free agency. In the past, the ‘Skins would close the deal quickly and decisively, usually by overpaying via a multi-year contract that was destined to be terminated in a couple of years.
Indeed, Hackett was the first free-agent that the ‘Skins hosted this year. They previously have re-signed two of their own free agents — quarterback Todd Collins and running back Rock Cartwright . . . Cartwright!
Hackett will visit the Panthers and the Buccaneers. The Seahawks also have an interest in bringing him back.
