I don't think it's fair to say Ramsey was given plenty of chances. Spurrier didn't have a blocking "scheme" - it was more of a try to fall down in front of somebody-thing. Ramsey proved he's tough enough to be an NFL QB.
Since he's not the guy - I agree with whoever said - Play Campbell now.

I don't think that anyone is saying that Ramsey has put up great numbers so far in his career. The argument for Ramsey starting, at least from my point of view, is that of the two qb's he's the only one that really has room to grow and improve. Brunell is on the back end of his career and has seen his numbers decline is each of the last few years. Ramsey, on the other hand, is still relatively young considering the position that he plays and still has the potential to become a very good qb in the NFL. If you look at the numbers that Manning, Favre, and Young posted early in their careers you'll see that it takes a while for some qb's to develope. Ramsey's time under Spurrier was a waste so this is only Patrick's second season in a real pro-style offense. Of course he's still going to make some bad decisions and throw some picks; that's what young qb's do. I mean Ramsey has only started 10 games under Gibbs. That's simply not enough time for a qb to get acclimated when he's spent his entire pro career in an offense that is on the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of play calling, pass protection, etc.
If Gibbs really has soured on Ramsey then I think that we need to start Campbell. Starting Brunell just sets this team back another year because there's no way that either he or Ramsey start next year. So we may as well put Campbell in there and let him takes his licks this year so that he can come in next year and have a chance at being an adequate starter. With Brunell this year we are an 8-8 team, maybe a 9-7 team if we catch a few breaks. If Campbell then starts next year you can't expect much more than 7-9 or 8-8 as he's going to make his share of mistakes, just as any qb starting for the first time does.

dammit.. why can't gibbs just have snyder pay to transplant ramsey's arm to brunells body??!! superbowl baby!!
lol
Ramsey definitely got shafted. Its unbelieveable. Some of you just blindly agree with everything gibbs does...I think Joe did a lot to improve the washington redskins these past 2 offseasons but brunnel is what will ultimately ruin both years IMO.
All this flipflopping by fans in preason must be contagious.

Being out here in England and not seeing most games live if at all. I rely on alot of information from this site.
My view of the Ramsey situation is the team is just trying to get something for him.
He asks for a trade and we may still get a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him before the deadline.
If he starts and has anything better than a resoanble year and he costs too much money to resign for next year. We then have to start again.
He bombs out and we have to start again. No matter what Ramsey will be somewhere else next year, they are just trying to get a little something for him rather him go on a free.
Im sure they must be comfortable with Campbell as a number 2, or there must be a someone who can do a job out there.
I like our recievers this year. With the strength of the ground game teams will have to put eight in the box to stop it. The recievers are quick and good in open field, short passes can go for long gains.

Thanks for mentioning this, gus. The fact of the matter is, Ramsey was not first-round talent on most team's scouting lists. He was a sure 2nd rounder, who just so happened to get picked at the END of the 1st round. That's what led to his holdout (his agent claimed he was a #1 pick, Skins wanted to give him #2 money), and his subsequent see-saw ride with the Skins.
When he was picke, he was Danny's pick, not Joe's or even Spurrier's, for that matter. Joe's got his guy waiting in the wings in Campbell, Ramsey has been given the shot to manage a Gibbs offense, and he still struggles. So, enter Brunell.
.
He wasn't first round material and wasn't what the Skins needed to draft. All adds up to another Danny mess.

I hate to use examples from other sports, but Ramsey seems to be a lot like Kwame Brown. He has plenty of talent, and may well develop into an All-Pro, but it just isn't going to happen in Washington.
It's a shame it has gone down the way it has, but at this point, we need to move on. Brunell might not be able to light up the scoreboard, but he won't turn the ball over, and with our defense that is usually going to be good enough for a win. But if this team is really going to go places, neither Brunell nor Ramsey is the answer.
Here's to hoping Jason Campbell is ready sooner than later.

Neither was Joe Montana
So much for that theory!

It pains me to say about one of my Redeemedskins, but Ramsey can't hold Montana's jock. My point was, everyone seems to annoint Ramsey as a can't fail QB, when he's certainly proven otherwise.
We were duped by our owner when we picked a "first-round QB" in Ramsey, and now it is making it difficult to imagine not having our #1 pick from 2002.

I am not comparing them. I am simply highlighting the fact that first round draft status obviously is meaningless very often, i.e., your argument.
Patrick will be back if Brunell stinks again. No doubt about it.

I think Brunell will be fine. He looks considerably better this year. This guy has been a very effective and consistent qb for a long time. One very bad year, and everyone throws him to the wolves, and you know what? he was HURT! If i remember right Jimmy Smith posted huge numbers with Brunell. Maybe Moss will fill that role. I am really pumped about this decision. I saw an old Elway take 2. If Brunell was really that bad, there is no way in hell Gibbs would be doing everything in his power to give him a legit shot now he's healthy.

The Rock said that Ramsey has not asked for a trade, he went even further and said no one from Ramsey's circle said anythink about a trade.
Jansen also says that Gibbs wasn't too quick on the trigger, he said Gibbs had been evaluating the position for awhile. He thinks Ramsey still has some learning to do and as Gibbs said last year. "Don't close the book on Patrick yet"

Maybe in terms of trade rumors later in the year.

As I said yesterday Ramsey is the only viable option as a back-up this year

Anyone who did not see this coming is just in denial in my opinion. I said before the season that Ramsey wouldn’t make it out of the Dallas game (check the how long will Ramsey last thread). That thread alone tell me that a lot of people around here felt the same way. I didn’t say that because I feel Brunell is a great QB, I said it because you could see during the pre-season that Gibbs liked what he saw in Brunell’s play and I’m sure had he not named Ramsey the starter last year he would have gone with Brunell as his starter in the Bears game.
All this talk about Ramsey getting shafted is laughable to me…where are all the Antonio Brown got shafted threads at?? This is the NFL Joe Gibbs is paid to do one thing…win football games. At the end of the day he has to look in the mirror and know that he is putting the best 11 men on the field be it D, O or ST. I suspect when he looked in the mirror recently he could not rest at night knowing Ramsey didn’t give the Skins the best chance to win…not because Brunell is great, but because Brunell is the lesser of two evils if you will. He moves better than the younger Ramsey, throws the ball away when needed and makes better decisions with the football. If Gibbs didn’t make this move he would be shafting 52 other football players and we the fans. Not because he know he’ll win football games but because all his football coaching experience tell him it will. We may very well never know how good Patrick is until he lands with another team, but Gibbs has to do what he feels is the right thing for the team..not Brunell or Ramsey. I trust Joe Gibbs decisions. His words say it all...
Quote:
"I know this is something that I'm saying to every fan out there and every person that thinks the world of the Redskins and pulls for them," Gibbs said yesterday. "I know a lot of people will disagree with this, and I understand that. For me personally, I felt like it was a decision I had to make."
Now onto Patrick Ramsey, he wants a trade? Are you kidding me? What kind of team player is that? Where is the OK coach whatever you need for the team? Is that to much to ask for? This is a TEAM sports the coach who can get the most of his 53 players on the same page wins…see that team from the north! Hey Patrick are you going to be ready if needed in Dallas? I suspect not..too bust whining about a trade. Want an example of how to take a demotion…look no further than the man who just replaced you.

WELL SAID!!! That sums it up accurately, appropriately, and the way it is!! It's time to move on and win some ball games. DE, thank you for bringing up the "Antonio Brown got shafted" threads. The reality of this game is if you don't perform, you're job is in jeopardy. Ramsey was the starter, he didn't perform as expected, and he lost the starting job. Let's move on!!

He probably wanted to start this year, have a great year and then go to the highest bidder next year.
Trade him are you kidding me??? He must think he is good or something.
Where is he going to go and be anything more than a backup? He barely knows this offense, let alone some other team's.

With our luck in the late first day, early second day of the draft, I would rather get a proven player in return for Ramsey.

HOW CAN U BLAME RAMSEY? HIS COACH OBVISOULY DOESNT BELIVE IN HIM...
LETS START WHEN HE BROUGHT IN BRUNELL, THEN HE BRINGS IN CAMPBELL IN THE 1ST ROUND OF THE DRAFT, THEN GETS RID OF RAMSEY AFTER 3 OFFENSIVE POSSESIONS, I DONT BLAME HIM, AND I HOPE HE GOES TO ARIZONA, GO CARDS.

I'm sure his new team will have a board you can post on. I dont know about you, but I am a skins fan, not a fan of whatever team Ramsey if on!
