The second pass was short, and badly off the mark like the longer pass on the down before. Maybe a little antsy, but the longer passes are not his strong suit
Actually the second INT didn't bother me at all, because the Phins ended up with pretty bad field position out of it. If it had been incomplete, the Skins would have punted and...well...that probably wouldn't have ended up so well. Best case, the Phins start at the same yard line as the INT was at. Worse case, we see Landry again...
Oh for sure! I told a friend the same thing... There was no way we could have punt that any better, and like you said, coulda been another disaster. My point was only that it was an under thrown ball, so it's not on Garçon, (who played like a savage today btw) because he not only slowed up and changed direction but fought for the ball vs a taller defender in better position; for a poorly thrown ball.

The 2 INTs by Cousins were not awful. The 2nd one, as stated by others, was just a really excellent play by the Dolphins defender. Plus, it was better than a punt, due to how close Garcon was at the endzone. The first INT was on Reed too, IMO. He was supposed to cut back in and instead assumed Cousins was going to take off and run, so it was kind of on both Cousins (for throwing it) and Reed for not recognizing what was happening.
Does any body else join me in advancing the unlikely hypothesis that a COMPLETION is better than an INCOMPLETION???
I know. It just might be impossible to think of a game without a few and we are at a point where we are compelled to differentiate between the "good" ones from the "bad" ones.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

The first was awful because if you watch the play, Cousins stared at Reed the entire time. Defense knew exactly where it was going. He telegraphed that throw.
And Ric, of course you'd like the completion, but that's not what happened. Cousins didn't throw the deep ball well at all yesterday.

+1 - btw, only Cousins 'family' thinks he throws well on the deep routes - losing Jackson was huge because I don't think that the offense was prepared to have anyone else doing that job ...
Cousins played well today IMO - as we've pointed out here before, this franchise has other serious issues to address before we find a QB
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I watched the play on the DVR a few times last night. He threw the INT after he rolled out of a broken play. I don't see how he "stared at Reed the entire time". Reed was like the last option he came to.
Bad decision on the INT though either way.

I said before the season started that my bar for this team is pretty low. I just want to see competitive games where we're not embarrassing ourselves. Games where we're not blown out in the first quarter.
Thought this one was a decent start. Disappointing because it was winnable - contrary to what everyone in the media was saying this week.

That should be the Redskins motto. "Washington Redskins Football - We just beat ourselves."
The neverending parade of penalties was just ridiculous. Bothered me more than anything else.
And FYI, the Cousins INTs I'm not even bothered all that much by. Yeah, I thought the first one was bad, but whatever. I was awfully glad to see him shake this one off and play well afterwards because that's one thing he didn't do last year. INTs will happen; it's how Cousins plays over the course of the season that really matters.
But lack of team discipline? That's something we saw last year, and it's sad to see it again this year. It's just not an aspect of the game you can really work on during the season.

I've been hearing a lot about the penalties today, and that usually comes back on the coaches. (Be careful before you start blaming Gruden. Coach Joe had some badly penalized teams in his second go.) I had a question though. The starters were pretty good with penalties through the preseason. Is it possible the penalties had something to do with facing that particular line? You know, being jumpy because Suh and Wake are getting ready to run at you?
Not saying that for sure. I was just wondering if that was a factor. It would be more understandable, and hopefully not something we have to see all season long.
Anyway, there was a lot I liked in this game and even some pleasant surprises. That's great, but it doesn't mean anything if we aren't able to build on it. Reserving judgement for now.

I agree with Riggo, the penalties were a consequence of playing against a powerful DL the first time out.
I think this game should be viewed as a very positive beginning of the SM/JG era. Their commitment to hard nose football was impressive and I was impressed with the results on the field. They ran and defended and Cousins enabled the offense. The loss of Jackson probably cost the Skins the game because Jackson and Cousins can take the top off a defense as we saw last season. I hope Jackson mends quickly or they find another deep threat to loosen things up. I think they can get the penalties and special teams issues ironed out.
What we saw yesterday was a real alignment between player acquisition and game plan. Winning teams are aligned and committed and that what we saw yesterday, like I said earlier in the thread I haven't been this excited since Marty's year.
I'm still hoping for 8-8 ... but I also don't think it matters who is playing QB ...
Cousins certainly did not cost us that game
