I think Dante Fowler is our guy. Good pass rusher but he isnt an elite rush the QB only kind of ILB. He is versitile tjpugh, can play either side or inside, good at run stopping and pass defense. With Kerrigan we can really mix things up and move him around. Looks like he could be a long term franchise guy for us

5. Washington Redskins — Washington DT Danny Shelton: The Redskins need to get younger and stronger up front to help their secondary while opening rush lanes for OLBs Ryan Kerrigan and Trent Murphy. Shelton will tie up plenty of blockers with his massive body (6-2, 339) and relentless effort
Same. I'm very curious where he sits in Scot's board. He might be #1. He might be #20. The 3 things sticking out about him right now for me are his size, his effort, and how he looked in the Senior Bowl.

By Charlie Campbell - @draftcampbell
Shelton was the talk of the Senior Bowl with his combination of power, size, and burst. He was a load and nearly impossible to single-block. In the pass-rushing one-on-ones and in run defense, he had his way with blockers. Shelton was one of the nation's sack leaders at defensive tackle in 2014 with nine. He totaled 87 tackles and 16.5 tackles for a loss, too. The 6-foot-1, 343-pounder is a big, disruptive tackle who has a surprising burst.
In 2013, Shelton turned in 59 tackles with 3.5 tackles for a loss and two sacks. He had an excellent bowl game against BYU with seven tackles and a lot of disruption at the point of attack. Shelton recorded 45 tackles, .5 sacks and four tackles for a loss in 2012.
2015 Senior Bowl: Danny Shelton Interview
By Charlie Campbell - @draftcampbell
The favorite to be the first player drafted from the 2015 Senior Bowl roster is Washington nose tackle Danny Shelton. The 6-foot-1, 343-pound lineman is a quick and physical defender who causes lots of disruption at the point of attack. We caught up with Shelton to discuss his Senior Bowl experience, his final collegiate season, and which NFL teams are showing interest in him.
Who are some of the teams you've met with thus far at the Senior Bowl?
"Today I have a meeting set up with the Texans. I've met with the Browns, Bears, Packers, Buccaneers, Dolphins. A lot of teams really."
Do any of those teams stand out as showing the most interest in you?
"I really don't know. It is all the same kind of meetings just seeing where you're coming from and my background."
Talk about your conditioning. I think it was really impressive for a blocker of your size to play four quarters like you did throughout the season.
"Really, it is necessary. Nine out of 10 teams were playing fast tempo. We really take that into consideration in preparing for the season. I felt like it was just something we had to do if we wanted to be one of the top defenses in the Pac 12."
At the weigh-in this morning you threw an arm up in the air after your weight was announced. Was that a celebration of making weight or maintaining where you wanted to be from the end of the year?
"It was just seeing improvement. I was excited to see it. I've been concentrating on dropping weight and it's finally coming."

With you. Either way I like that this position is in the conversation, and I hope we're able to draft a quality young player this year. There are some good options who might be available early in the second round too. Jordan Phillips from Oklahoma, and I've seen Carl Davis from Iowa mentioned as a possible second round pick for the Skins as well.

I could not agree more - we have many needs but it's possible that this position is top of the wish list or very close to it

The mocks are all over the board. I even saw one that had Coopoer WR as the Skins pick. This draft is shaping up to be very interesting to say the least. But as it has been mentioned it feels good to be having this conversation.

If I was BA/SM I would be having a conversation sooner than later with Philly, Clev, Jets and hope to have a deal in my pocket if Marcus Mariota is available at #5.

Todd McShay's latest is out today. Still seems to believe we're going with a pass rusher.
http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/mo ... Mock-Draft#5 Randy Gregory
Washington Redskins (4-12)
COLLEGE: Nebraska
Class: Jr
HT: 6-6
WT: 245
POS: DE
Analysis: The Redskins' top two needs are right tackle and pass-rusher. They could take Iowa's Brandon Scherff is they're convinced he can play right tackle, but their better option -- unless Mariota slides to this spot and they find a team willing to trade up so they can get some extra picks -- is to go with an edge rusher. Gregory has freakish athleticism for a guy with his length, and he'd be a good fit as a right outside linebacker opposite Ryan Kerrigan. He improved his power and consistency this year, but in order to develop into a complete player, he needs to bulk up to set the edge against the run and add more power as a pass-rusher.
The top six btw are:
Tampa - Jameis Winston
Titans - Leonard Williams
Jax - Dante Fowler
Oakland - Kevin White
Skins - Randy Gregory
Jets - Mariota

Scot is unlikely to pick anyone who is undersized.
Wilson was an exception.

Any team that is looking to move down will generally line up a number of deals to match multiple scenarios... I'm sure they are working the phones...

So, here's the thing... if the scenario develops that Mariota is still available, and Williams is gone, I think the phone will burn up between skins and at least two suitors...
But, if that falls through, I will continue to insist that a dominant NT instantly makes both Kerrigan AND Murphy much better pass rushers, and our D Line much more stout against the run. Our major weakness in the front 7 last year was NOT OLB... it was NOT Reily (though I would love an upgrade here, as well)... it was NT...

That would be awesome. There's always the possibility of somebody wanting to move up a few spots for somebody other than Mariota as well.

I'll take your word on that, but it makes sense. Do you think Shelton is really that elite, dominant NT? Good as Vince Wilfork?

Not yet... but this kid has a reputation for being driven, is smart, and have you seen some of his moves???? I think he will be VERY good, probably excellent, the kind of player who becomes the heart of the defense.

I'd be happy if we could draft like this over the next 3 years:
Russell Okung
Earl Thomas
Golden Tate
Kam Chancellor
James Carpenter
John Moffitt
K. J. Wright
Richard Sherman
Bobby Wagner
Russell Wilson
Robert Turbin

Im surprised the Texans arent in talks of trade candidates. . Did they sign a passer??? Stout D, solid Rb, lost Andre and the Beard... did they do anything to help that scary D score points?

I don't follow college football, but having finally looked at highlights and game tapes for some of our likely prospects, I have to say that I am drooling over Gregory and the other top pass rushers look good. Based on what I've seen, I'm not sold on Shelton, but then again what do I know. It looks like we won't have to worry about not having a talent good enough for the pick, though. Any one of these guys could be great for us.

The moves made in free agency have moderated my stance, but my #1 concern for the defense in the off season was nose tackle. A 3-4 CANNOT work without a powerful NT, and ours were particularly deficient this past season. I'm still a fan of Shelton, but, at this point, we have addressed that deficiency...
Just get the beastest player there! I want the Ducks to need to spend extra resources protecting their new glass quarterback.

Man, when is the last time we had a true BEAST on defense? ST? I would love to see a player like that again on defense.

London Fletcher at his best got close, but yeah I think you gotta go back to Taylor. We really need someone like that again.

There are a few posters here that will be absolutely unhappy when we DON'T draft a NT at #5...no way.
Three reasons,
1) NT's don't get picked that high;
2) As someone already said, we filled the NT position with Pot Roast; and
3) We need someone to put pressure on the qb or protect our qb...An OLB or OT.
I believe, all this talk of Mariota, Cooper, Shelton, are smoke... don't believe much you hear from unnamed sources at this point!
I remember all the Gibbs years and I remember him saying, with a high draft pick you get a QB, a LT to protect your qb or someone who can pressure the qb. Nt's can be gotten in the 2nd, 3rd, or Free Agency (Like Pot Roast!).
