I wonder if the Broncos took the Bears offer because the Skins play the Broncos this year in DC? I think our offer knowing Snyder had to be pretty close to what the Bears gave up.

There is just no evidence to support the idea that Jay Cutler is a better quarterback (nor that Jason Campbell is a better quarterback, but that's the point.)

It's actually a 2009 1st, 2009 3rd, 2010 1st, and Orton for Cutler and a 2009 5th.
That is an insane price.
Like I said this morning, JLC was the sole source of this rumor. He was even interviewed live on NFL Live at 4:00 PM EST.

Skins' Position on Cutler Unchanged
At this point, our reporting gives us no reason to believe that anything has changed concerning the Redskins' thinking on Denver quarterback Jay Cutler. At the owners' meetings a week ago in California, Coach Jim Zorn said the team had no interest in Cutler. And Vinny Cerrato, the team's executive vice president of football operations, said the same thing on March 17.
When Cutler-to-Washington rumors first surfaced, the Redskins told agents for the parties mentioned (Jason Campbell and Chrisey) that the rumors were unfounded and the team was not interested.
The fact that Cutler is now officially on the trade market does not appear to have changed matters, at this point.
The team has not yet responded to media inquiries since Denver owner Pat Bowlen said he'd pursue a trade for Cutler, with Cerrato hunkered down in draft meetings. As for the Broncos, a league source said they are sitting back and colllecting offers for now. "They are accepting bids and what happens next is a mystery," the source said.
We"ll continue to make calls, monitor the situation and pass along what we know.
Skins heavily pursuing Cutler
By John Keim
Examiner Staff Writer 4/2/09
The Redskins have stopped denying any interest in Jay Cutler, yet another signal that they are indeed pursuing the Denver Pro Bowl quarterback.
As initially reported in The Examiner two weeks ago, one executive with another team said that the Redskins were interested in Cutler, but the team spent the past two weeks denying the reports. Now multiple reports have the Redskins heavily pursuing Cutler, some suggesting a deal could be completed within a couple days.
DENVER (CBS4) ―
CBS4 Broncos Insider Gary Miller has learned disgruntled quarterback Jay Cutler is expecting to be traded as soon as today. Sources tell Gary that Cutler believes he'll soon be a Washington Redskin.
The Washington Redskins are among the leading candidates to pull off a deal for Cutler.

I'll believe it when I see it on Rotoworld.
That link is very funny. You guys really should check out what those Bronco fans expect to get for Cutler
"This excites me. Dan Snyder does not value his draft picks at all and will hand them out for anything. I'm definitely betting that we get a huge return for Cutler because he is going to Washington."

Hey it turns out they weren't far off on their expectations. Two 1st's, a third and Orton. I especially like the Bronco fan who said:"This excites me. Dan Snyder does not value his draft picks at all and will hand them out for anything. I'm definitely betting that we get a huge return for Cutler because he is going to Washington."
Don't we know it. Whew, sure am glad someone actually outbid Snyder for once.

Are you serious??? Wow, I honestly can't believe that. If the Redskins would've given that up, I would've been pissed. Orton is a good player, but along with 2 1st rounders and a 2nd rounder, wow, just wow!
They are basically giving up 4 players for one.

They got a fifth rounder with Cutler, so it's 4 for 2.

Kilmer72 wrote:BurgundyandGoldfaith wrote:This is completely fake, the Redskins already gave their statement, denying interest in Cutler, why should they give a statement every time they are associated with trade rumors that flare up, after they already did? Seriously, no one but JLC has pointed to a bit of evidence that isn't JLC's hearsay article. If he was right about this, they would have done the deal last night. on another topic though- I just got off the phone with an unnamed NFL source and he says we're trading Haynesworth and the 13th to Indianapolis for Peyton and a 6th rounder, and the trade is going down "as we speak". See, just that easy
I hope you are right about being completely fake.
You know it is driving me crazy but I would to state my opinion. Remember when Joe Gibbs came to town the first time? He came from Don Coryell and tried to make us a pass happy team. It didn't work so he went with what we had. We became a power house running team. This is the secret to being a successful Redskin team. When the posse came around we could pass on everyone because of the running game. This is all really about the offensive line, which we do not have. If you can not win in the trenches you will not win the game unless you are extremely lucky. Some of us want that qb Cutler. I don't. I like JC17. He is a decent qb. I see that he doesn't get rid of the ball in a three step drop really quick. I know that is what the west coast is all about. Did not Gibbs have a problem with his air Coryel game working? I say what you have to do is work with JC17 and build around him. Change you offense to suit him. He is here already. He prefers to be in a shotgun or roll out but Zorn wants him to avoid in the pocket and get rid of it quick. Why cant he just buy us time an extra second or two by rolling out like Joe T used to? Because we are stubborn and trying to make him something he is not. He is a class act off the field as well. Is JC more successful being forced to comply with the west coast? NO!!!!! Can he be the QB of the future? Yes!!!! Did he have people getting open running the right routs and not dropping balls? Could we block? I could go on and on but I don't want to write a novel.

Sure the Bears paid a steep price, but they're in a much better position than us to be highly competitive for the next couple years. They have a good running game, a good line, some young wide receivers and an excellent defense.
They could win the Superbowl. It's a lot to give up, but there's also a lot to be gained, including hype surrounding the team. That's worth a lot too.
And for the record you would not be irate you'd be stoked too. Getting a potential franchise QB (even if I'm not sold on him) is enough to send any fan to cloud 9.
