That was my first thought too.

My second thought, after doing some reading, was: he seems like a good character guy (ie a Gibbs kind of guy), who can be a special teams contributor and maybe a situational pass rusher. But he won't be any use if our starting linebackers go down.

I'm not sure he'll make the roster for opening day.

This guy wasn't even a top 10 OLB left on the board. Im thoroughly pissed.

Weaknesses: Plays too high, hasn't shown great lower body strength and gets driven back at times. Doesn't always take sound angles to the ball and gets caught out of position at times. Takes too long to open hips when forced to turn and run downfield and isn't fast enough to run with most backs. Depth in drops is inconsistent and doesn't show great awareness in zone coverage. Uses hands too much in coverage and could draw some flags if doesn't improve technique. Lacks ideal ball skills and isn't a playmaker. Fails to breakdown in space too much and is an inconsistent open field tackler. Missed most of the 2005 season with a dislocated shoulder and durability is somewhat of a concern.

This sounds like someone that used to be "the face of the Redskins"

Something you guys don't know is that he also has played Safety. Relax on this one. We brought him in for LB and you'll see he has what it takes.

I heard Gibbs say they were looking for depth at LB...but who is this guy?? Only thing I've heard of him is that he's weak, unathletic and afraid of contact.

Tim Shaw from Penn State was available and we pass on him...he played all LB positions and ran a 4.49.

Not to mention that there are some DE's with potential...i.e. Victor Abiamiri from Notre Dame....6-5 267 4.8 7 sacks last year.

Or Dan Bazuin From Central Michigan 6-3 266 4.77 67 tackles and 10.5 sacks last year.

I guess we don't want to pressure the passer.

Are you familiar with him? Is he that much better than Spencer Havner whom was supposed to be excellent in coverage out of UCLA i think?

If he's really that much better, we can wait and see, otherwise I don't understand why we draft this kid. if the best projection any scouts have him as is a special teamer.

I am a fan of our coaching staff, however, we've brought in a lot of guys that had potential and got nothing out of them. I admit I havent seen him play so anything I get is from the internet, but thats the scary part. I watched some USC games and don't remember him at all.

They are serious when they say they're cool with the current D-Line. So, the guys on the NFL Network agreed this guy is a SAM linebacker. What's a SAM? Someone who knows positional lingo care to educate me?

SAM named after Sam Huff, means strongside OLB. MIKE is Middle. and WIL is weaskide.

I think those 2 DE's are gone. Victor to the dang Eagles I believe. I would have liked Shaw though. Hopefully this guy turns out better than some of our other later round LB picks. I was hoping for Brandon Siler.

Gibbs said they have spent a lot of time planning these late round picks, so they must know something.

Yea, and the M was named after Monte Coleman, and W for Wilbur Marshall.

I think he may come in and play in that spot but used differently. I think he is going to be a situation guy.

His dad was a college safety and his grandfather was a Golden Gloves boxer and hydroplane racer ... so ya gotta love that right off the bat.

He looked like a blue chipper coming into 2005 season, but dislocated his shoudlder, missed the rest of the season and was allowed to return to USC in 2006 as a medical hardship. He had 103 tackles, two picks, two fumbled recovieries and seven pass defelctions last year for the Trojans.

Said to be a good team-first kid and with a strong frame. Coverage is not his strong suit and will have to perfect his technique but could be a good teams guy off the bat.

The Skins have been trying to develop a young LB since this staff got here and maybe he'll be the guy. Kevin Simon,
Newberry and McCune all were drafted in recent years, but the low-pick LBs never really got on the field and Rocky's a work in progress and we'll see about his knees.

On another note, what are the odds the Redskins would draft a kid named Landry with their first pick and Dallas with their next selection? Somehwere the man with the cowboy hat must be smiling.

Also, should Blades or Alexander slip into the sixth round, I wouldn't rule out the Skins going LB again for one of them since they have two 6th round picks.

I think that if he makes the roster he will compete behind Marcus Washington because we really don't have much in the way of a backup SAM.

For some reason gibbs is enamored with Reynaldo Wynn, and Phillip Daniels, in my honest opinion, Demetric Evans is better than both of them....so technically we have depth at DE...but in reality the players we have are largely ineffective. If you look at Evans' numbers....he gives you more productoin based on the amount of time he's on the field than does Danies...save that stretch in the 5 in a row run where Daniels lit it up.
