Mathis isn't top tier. 8 years in the NFL, 4 teams, never started 16 games, and in five of those seasons he started 0 games.

How many #2 through 4 tour WRs dies one team need?

Don't have a #1 in the entire group. And none of these guys are a clear improvement (if at all) over Gafney or Moss. So we are concentrating on getting younger, but not measurably better.
LEONARD HANKERSON

I hope so, but he might start the season on the PuP list.

That's the number i was after. No point cutting Moss for that savings, unless they think he's done...

Safe to say Gaffney is done here? How many receivers does one team need?

Hankerson
Paul
Gaffney
Armstrong
Moss
Royal
Garcon
Morgan
Stallworth

I wouldn't read too much into it at this point. Shanahan likes positional competition during the offseason. If you recall, Shanahan had 14 wide receivers on the roster at one point last summer.

Well based on last years play I thought he was great. He did not allow one sack last season. Did you know that?

Moss will most likely be gone, Banks too. Royal will field punts.

Whoever these guys are, they think Evan Mathis is the best LG in the league.

Left Guard: Evan Mathis, Philadelphia Eagles

Second Team: Carl Nicks, New Orleans Saints

One of the biggest free agent bargains in recent memory, Mathis had a run blocking grade three times better than that of any other player at his position. About as impressive a guard as you’re likely to see, Mathis rarely makes mistakes and does the little things so well he’s a pleasure to watch. He had to be so good to beat out another fine year from Nicks.

I didn't, but that's one season and he's 30 years old. And he's only ever started games in 3 of his 8 seasons. That's the kind of signing you make when you have a good offensive line and want to take a gamble on a guy staying healthy and productive, not when you have an offensive line that needs upgrading to keep your rookie franchise qb upright and healthy.

That's all true.

And I'd rather keep Gaffney than Armstrong and I'm not sold on Paul.

At least Gaffney can get open and make key catches in tight short yardage situations. Armstrong was so poor and getting open I started to think he thought he was a CB!

Maybe he should be a CB..?!?!? He can stick with runners pretty good by the looks of it...

Sorry I haven't really had a chance to post much opinion on him yet but this was a VITAL signing. I sent him a tweet earlier saying that with his signing, our D Line is SET!!! We have depth and experience. The main thing I LOVE is the continuity there. He was VERY underrated.

Just saying here. I mean we just signed Carriker to a contract a normal starting defensive lineman deserves. We just signed Garcon to no.1 wide receiver type money. Both of these players have yet to perform or prove that they deserve those type of contracts they are going to receive.

The first whisper I hear of a decent guard we are going after and I am supposed to be against it. I mean we need help at the offensive line. Mathis played outstanding last year which should be noted and not ignored. Its no problem to take a look at him. If he passes a physical then Im cool with it.

five-year deal with Redskins that will void to two years. Worth up to $12 million. $7.5 million "guaranteed."

Garcon is 26 and has improved each year and doesn't have health issues. Carriker got $7 million guaranteed. If Mathis is the best that we can do to improve the oline that is a huge fail.

Well were you and I disagree is on Mathis. Mathis opened up huge holes for Mccoy last year. Is rated by many as one of the top guards in this free agent class. He didnt allow one sack last year!!! So I am not going to try to convince you otherwise.

For the record I never said it was the best we could to improve this Oline. If you are concerned about injury thats understandable. But it should be noted he was fabulous last year. He helped Mccoy rush for record bests in his career and did not allow one sack last year. How is that not impressive?

If he could do it consistently, I'd be impressed. Doing it once in 8 years isn't. Especially when that one good year happens to come when he's playing next to a LT that is regarded as one of the best in the NFL. Signing Mathis to anything other than a short-term incentive laden deal would the epitome of a Danny/Cerrato move.

Redskins agree to terms with WR Eddie Royal
By Mike Jones
The Washington Redskins have added yet another wide receiver to their roster, agreeing to terms with former Denver Broncos wideout Eddie Royal, according to a person familiar with the deal.

Royal signed for $12 million over two years, the person said.

The former Virginia Tech standout was drafted 42nd overall by Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan in 2008 when Shanahan was the head coach in Denver. That season, Royal had a career-high 91 catches for 980 yards and five touchdowns.

Royal also is a talented punt returner who averaged 16.2 yards per runback last season.

Garcon, Morgan, Royal, Hankerson. Could be a solid core of WRs for the next few years. I'm getting excited! Let's see some linemen!
