I know DeAngelo has had his issues in the past, but so far in Washington, he's been a model citizen. I have no problem with what he said and to be honest, when I saw that touchdown pass my first response was, "Why wasn't Hall on him??? What the hell is Haslett thinking?"
Still, as I said earlier, I think we proved yesterday that we are really on the right track and a definite threat to anyone in the NFC!

Positives:
- Offense scored 27 points
- Passing Game clicking despite having two Smurfs as WRs.
- McNabb
- OL pass-pro was solid all day
- "Dirty 30"
Negatives:
- Gave up 17 point lead
- No run game whatsoever!
- Mental mistakes - Davis missed block; Horton off-sides; Heyer hold;
- Defense: too many times in secondary guys looked lost resulting in wide open Texan receivers. It was like they would release the receiver expecting someone else to pick them up in space.
- Defense only because they are still learning it;
- If #30 could pump his brakes just a little, he wouldn't knock himself and his teammates out of plays and out of the game. He is playing all-world but with that comes occassions where he hurts us and himself with his aggression. Don't stop though. Make up those things with another play and try not to hurt your teammates.
- Push upfront was lacking despite five sacks.

I'd take yesterdays loss over a 9-7 win over Saint Louis.
Yesterdays game was awesome, it was entertaining. It was a JOY to watch the Skins be REAL NFL TEAM FOR ONCE.
Now before some of u lose ur minds, we're only 2 games into this era. Don't get all negative.

I don't care if we lost while being agressive. Sitting back and playing conservative is what I have grown to hate about this team over the last ten years.
We got a 17 point lead playing aggressive. Then Texans made adjustments. Our defense got a little bit tired in the fourth and they started picking our defense apart.
Playing aggressive when your line cannot get to the QB is foolish. Clearly only Orakpo is generating pressure on the Dline. Blitzing and missing when the Texans have four or five receivers is going to leave a man wide open which happened more then a couple times and resulted in quick scores. Quick scores will kill us everytime.
When Houston adjusts and starts lining up three, four and five receivers. Then it is time to adjust your defensive play calls. For goodness sake. Especially when the Texans get two quick strikes in a row!
My goodness at least a zone blitz scheme would have been fine in latter situation.
Ok, I am not panicing. I was just venting. Haslett called a fine game against the pukes and Shanahan a so so game against the pukes.
This game Haslett called a terrible game and Shanahan called a great game. So I just hope Haslett can just make the necessary adjustments the next time.
Believe me we are going to face some high powered passing offenses this year. Green Bay and Indianapolis are going to be tests. We will see how our defense plays againt them.
But trust me. Agressive is great when you can get to the QB. Really great when you build a 17 point lead. Not great when the opposing team takes advantage of the coverages and yet we stay in the same coverage for two consecutive quarters.
Reason why Pittsburg is great in the 3-4 is they can generate pressure with rushing 4, 5 or six players at a time. They also have two outstanding outside linebackers and a stout interior Dline. They can even get pressure rushing 3.

I don't think that what Hall indicated is at all bad or will be taken the wrong way by Haslett and the defensive backfield coaches - I think they all (including Hall) want to have the system work and if they all think that they need to adjust how they're using Hall then they will do that
this is a work in progress and I'm excited to see how much energy these guys are playing with
we are only 2 real games into the season -if we keep this up we could very well be 5-3 in a few weeks
no worries from me

We're 2 games in, give the team a chance to gell. This is going to take a couple of seasons to perfect. Enjoy the ride. Change your perspective and truly realize that this team is now challenge to opposing teams. The loss stung but I'm still happy.

Agreed. There are still areas that need work but mannnnnnn!! Wasn't it exciting to the wide open receivers and us moving the ball up and down the field.

Agreed, and fortunately this isn't college where a loss dooms you. But even though you're right, it does take a couple days to get a loss in perspective when you lead by 17 in the second half

My concern is that we weren't a full team vs Texans. We gave up 530 yds. And a blocked FG. Yes, the passing game was on point, but STs and Defense were nothing to be proud of. I'm not calling the sky out for falling, but I won't start to smile until all three facets play consistantly. Until then, we don't know WHAT we have.
And to qualify my point, I do realize that we have new Ocoord, Dcoord, HC, and QB. But I also believe what I see and not buy in to the hype.

Hey everyone, huge Redskin fan my whole life and I have stalked this board for awhile now...
I am just wondering how so many people fail to see how hamstrung we are at RB. Everyone blames the OL, FB, or playcalling when Portis does not run well, but no one blames him for ruining perfectly blocked plays on a consistent basis. Portis simply does not break tackles or make people miss and he has not done that for along time. He is the best blocking RB in the game and decent out of the backfield, but there are backs not in the NFL right now that have more ability than him. Him tripping over his own feet cost the the team a TD and forced a FG attempt that got blocked. If that was the first, or second, or third time he had done that it could be overlooked. CP does not expect to break tackles, he is already in the process of falling every time he nears a defender.
Unfortunately, the backup is just terrible at this point. We will not have a good running game because we do not have backs that can get any yardage on their own. So many backs waiting to get their chance to play in this league or start in this league could easily do so on this team.

I agree. Well said. It's a little crazy to start getting excited about having a good passing attack for 3 quarters when pretty much every other facet of the team was terrible...the defense was awful, we couldn't run the ball, and we had a kick blocked and missed another one.

Maybe there are some here that might be a little over the top, but for the most part I think that most here are just excited about the positives and that still applies after that game which we
almost won
we are not a consistently good football team by any stretch but we have come a long way and I think most here are excited about the way the players and coaches are doing their thing
we have a groop of players and coaches that are giving us a lot to be excited about - well, most of us anyway

McNabb is on 980 right now...
On the missed deep ball to Galloway...."I take full responsibility for that."
It's nice to see a qb step up, be a leader, and take the blame for something, even if it wasn't even totally on him, and wasn't even really a mistake since it was an almost 70 yard throw. Refreshing to have this type of leadership and accountability out of our qb. Campbell never took "full responsibility" for anything.

Again, backups everywhere are waiting for a chance to play and could contribute immediately. We are throwing away so much money for no production out of our backfield. Some College players would possibly be an improvement right now.

It looked to me that Joey G slowed down at the five and under ran a sure TD pass from dm that the defense had no chance of touching. In hindsight it sucks we missed it but I was glad just to see that kind of pass/balls from the skins. Lords k Iqa when we last had even a chance for that kind of pass

Anyone hear anything about what happened to Landry? It looked like it was his wrist that was bothering him, but toward the end of the game he went down a few times, and obviously missed the last few plays..Any updates?

Slow down grampi. First off, I'm not even sure you understand what you are talking about. What is a "pass off" defense? If by "pass off" coverage you mean zone, or better yet a zone fire scheme, then you are saying that 4 of the top 5 defenses (ranked in terms of yards allowed) don't work either. Learn about what is going on before making a statement like that.
Secondly, we were still going deep and almost connected on a couple late in the game. I was actually suprised that we were still going for passes so late in the game. It was successfull too. This game didn't come down to anything but going offsides in the red zone, and missing a block on the field goal. Up until that point, we had control. We'll fix the mistakes, and get better.
No need to start blaming the coaches. You think the coaches are actually not putting our players in the best position to win? How does that even make sense? The players have a responsability to execute don't they? They just don't know the scheme as well as they should yet.
Apparently our pass defenders aren't able to cover the receivers because they were leaving the Texan receviers open the entire game. Maybe other teams have the personnel to be able to cover in a 3/4 defensive scheme, but we don't. Isn't it the coaches who chose to get rid of Cartwright and Betts and make Portis our feature back and pick up Larry Johnson? Portis is only good if he has holes to run through and it was clear going into this season our offensive line is terrible at run blocking. Portis just is not a fit for this o-line, and LJ is clearly past due for retirement. We would've been much better off keeping Carwright and Betts as both are much better running through traffic. How many games do we stand to win with a defense that can't stop the pass, and an offense that can't run the ball?

So what I want to know, grampi, is that if you think that we've peaked on our potential in this offense/defense? B/C if that's what you think, I can at least respect your opinion.
I suspect that you're just taking your usual glass 1/2 empty PoV to stir up controversy and 'discussion' though.

What do you mean peaked? I think we have the wrong personnel for running backs (given that our o-line can't run block), and our our defense is being misutilized. Our passing game has been opened up markedly with addition of Mcnabb, but without a running game and a terrible pass defense, I think the team will continue to struggle this year.

I'm askin as in this year, with this personnel, do you think we will improve in any facets that are currently subpar, or do you think that the offensive/defensive production that we've seen is the best we will see.
I think that we'll see more execution as the guys play together more and more. I do agree that we need at least 1, probably two more years before we see what the offense/defense (especially defense) is fully capable of.
