If we draft Okung, and pick up a Right Tackle via Free Agency...does anyone doubt that we can be competitive this year? And, still be in a position to add a QB and Lineman next year and beyond? This signing allows us to ease into the rebuilding process rather than trying to fill all the holes at once.

Campbell would be under contract for one year and then becomes a FA after signing his tender. So, if we took Okung and Saffold or another Lineman in the 2nd round, we would be in the position of having to start Grossman or a Rookie next year.

We still don't have depth in the line. And after we move JC (which is looking more inevitable by the minute) we have Grossman backing him up. And MicNabb isn't most durable and is 34 this season. I still dont' have a warm and fuzzy.

McNadz is a pretty mobile QB still. He might not be as mobile as before but he can at least move around and throw on the run if needed. It might work out with the line we have now until it gets fixed.

I just read 10 pages of this thread and have a few points.

We gave up a 2nd AND a 2011 3rd rounder for McNabb. Campbell could go for JUST a 2nd and nothing else.

If the Rams select Okung, then we trade Campbell for a 2nd and trade it for Gaither, and use the 4th pick on Bradford and have McNabb teach him the ways for 3 years. Deal with the RB position next year as the players we signed this year to one year contracts are a bandaid.

If the Rams pick Bradford, we use the 4th on Okung, trade Campbell for a 2nd and pick up a RT in the draft.

Either way, that's a pretty solid team IMO. As much as I hate him, McNabb is better than what we have right now by a lot!

Either way, Campbell is not on this team next year and I think we need to get a 2nd out of a trade to make this work. If we get a 2nd for him, we basically picked up McNabb for a 3rd round pick next year which is the equivalent to a 4th round pick this year. That would deserve a standing ovation.

I agree. And, actually we traded our 2nd and a 4th for McNabb. The 4th becomes a third only if McNabb plays at a stated level AND leads the Skins to a certain ranking in the NFC East (That's courtesy of Adam Shefter on ESPN last night) That's a win since we only give up the 3rd if McNabb leads us to where we are trying to go.

Trying to wrap my mind @ this one hurts. Watching NFL Net and seeing his Iggles jersey w/a 'Skins background is too bizarre. Not sure how I feel about this except to say for the Dan old habits die hard...I think a 2nd was too high, I really do.

Trade Jason Campbell for Sims the Guard from Seattle. They can use a b/u QB, Sims is a great lineman, and look for a RT, there are several out there.

I don't think there was a way for us to acquire starters and depth on the O Line without trading for more picks...which is why I started the Cooley thread. Campbell, Carter, Cooley, Clinton...the 4 C's are our only shot at getting anything in return. And, a 2nd round pick is the best we can expect for any of them

:D This was me last night. It's a fair price, could've been better for us, but also could've been worse. At least we get instant production out of a 2nd rd pick.

Good point. Like Pulp says though, we've gotta nail down an extension on this cat and quick, or anything beyond this season flies out the window.

I am offering absolutely NO scintillating dialog on this subject. Who EVER really knows how something like this is going to actually pan out but come on man! No. 5 is a winner! And I'm pumped!

I just wanted to say: SWEEEEEETTTTTTT!

I am banking that Bruce Allen wouldn't have traded for him if the extension wasn't in the works. I'm hoping that we wouldn't go into this thing like that, uh oh, now I'm worried.

I feel optimistic for the first time since we rehired Gibbs.

We were bad for many reasons last year but the main one was head coach. We have a good one now.

On TD to INT ratio McNabb is 3rd all-time behind Tom Brady and Steve Young. It is absurd to say McNabb is "terrible."

McNabb is younger than Elway was when Shanny took over that team. I'm thinking his thought is "Let's be aggressive on D and revert to top 5 form there and let's give this guy a running game he's never had."

I'd love to draft a QB now. With what pick, I don't know.

We just got waaaaaaaaay better on third down and our play caller, in general, will trust the QB a lot more than the play caller could the last 2 years.

All-in-all, a good move.

Typically, this is one area where Snyder has been very proactive. Donovan approved this trade. I think that will get done.

I would expect an extension pronto. if not, then maybe we are up to something else. it's a longshot, and a goofy way to go about a trade. if there was a 3rd team involved, then you go ahead and include them in the trade lest you get left holding the green bag of used EAGLE qb. I don't care if he's sonny jurgenson part II, this is just gay football. All hail Mr. Eagle himself coming over to be our hero QB. :puke:

I like the move, 34 isn't too old. He could possibly play until he is 40. He's here for 3-4 years and we FINALLY have a legit QB.

I'm driving to work this morning listening to the local sports station when I hear "The eagles have traded Donovan Mcnabb within the division...." and I'm saying "don't say skins! don't say skins!" and of course he continues with "....to the Washington Redskins" and I actually say "Doh!" out loud.

But after thinking it over, and after reading through the 11 pages on this thread, I'm pretty psyched about this trade. And, by the way, the local sports guys think it was a steal for the Skins. The Redskins are immediately back in the contender club. And they can get the O-linemen they need (I strongly suspect that was part of the conversation between Mcnabb and the skins), I like the idea of getting a 2 or even a 3 for Campbell.

And I don't think its "back to the old ways". Back to the old ways would be the trade happening 2 months ago when he would have been more expensive. Instead, they hung back let his stock fall a bit and got, in my opinion, a pretty good deal.

And either way, next season just got WAAY more interesting.....

If we got McNabb for a 3rd, I would have been estatic; but we didn't. We gave up a top 40 pick for a 33 year old QB. Are we rebuilding? Every time I turn around, we are picking up mid-30s players. We just picked up Parker, who at 29, is like picking up a QB that is 40.

We gave too much up for McNabb. While I think that he is a top 5 QB in th league (as of LAST YEAR), he isn't worth, at 33, what we paid for him. He has been getting hurt more and more often. There is a reason Philly wanted to dump him for a young, generally unproven QB. I love McNabb, but I want to move FORWARD with youth, not tread water with age. This is a bandaid.

And to why I pasted-chief's post. There is NO WAY we get a 2nd for JC. If I am wrong, I will admit it, but I doubt I am. We will get a 4th at best (maybe a late 3rd from a desperate team), but nothing more. This is not a 2nd for 2nd swap. If it was, we would have had a 3 team deal working. Do you really think that JC is worth what McNabb is right now??? He's not; even with his age. If you really think about it, JC is only 6 years younger than McNabb. He is actually pretty old for what he has accomplished (or not accomplished) in the NFL. We are basically getting a 3rd next year for 4th this year swap and spending our top 40 pick on McNabb -- which, again, I think is too much.

I am happy we finally have a good QB, but am not happy that the FO is overlooking the teams future by continuing to pick up aged vets in the FA/trading market.

we all know we are a few years away but we can now build up the other areas and in the 2011 draft or even 2012 find a future star to groom as the QB - we do not need to draft a QB in the lower rounds this year, we have a lot of other issues

A "few years away"? I disagree strongly ... and I think Allen and Shannahan do too, otherwise they would not trade for a Vet QB like McNabb.

We upgrade the 0-line, and now have an instant legit QB running things .. this team will be competitive out of the blocks. Then you determine at the end of 2010 where the remaining weak spots are, and you address that in the offseason.

Boys, we just saw a power shift in the NFC East ... McNabb puts us in a position of solid competition within the division.

My only question is ... What are the Eagles smoking? This has got to be one of the most poorly conceived strategies in professional sports.

I thought they were losing it by contemplating getting rid of him in the first place and turning things over to an unproven talent ... but to trade him to the Redskins???? I'm totally FLOORED.

I never would have believed this deal would have ever been possible. Never in a Million years.

McNabb is 33 ... he's easily got another 3+ years in the tank. More than enough time to carry this team while Shannahan finds the right youngster to groom as the replacement.

So much for the quiet offseason.

Not sure I understand that first sentence.

Sorry - I've got "Lack of Sleep - newborn on the brain"

revised: If we just gave up a 2nd and 3rd/4th for McNabb who's a pro-bowler, SB leading QB, then we're lucky to get a 3rd, 4th or even a 5th for Jason Campbell. I just think that with this trade, we set the market on what we could get for JC.

Look now for a Campbell to Oakland deal ... the one team who has a QB that makes Campbell look like Peyton Manning ... I mean, as hard as I am on Jason, he's head and shoulders better than JR.

Most people are overthinking this move, talking about trade value and moving him again for different picks and moving JC and moving up or down in the draft... common!

the real issue is we have a better qb than last year! we have a qb. we have a group of RBs. we have a great D. now all we need to do is draft an O line!! YES!! we are very close to having a great team.

CLL hit in on the head.

Will Sanatana Moss finally be a LEGIT deep threat now?!?! He hasn't been hit in stride since MNF and Mark BRUNELL!!!

McNabb is more than just a QB, he's an elite QB.

And Flozell Adams is still out there, so is (dare I say it) Terrell Owens. I know people hate TO, this is one of the times I can actually say he isn't wanted here after what he did to McNabb. And McNabb was making him a star.

McNabb will at least be a litmus test for the WR's/OL. We'll find out whether it was actually all Campbell's fault or whether something needs to be done at WR. One thing is for sure, we don't have DeSean Jackson. But McNabb has got it done with Todd Pinkston, James Thrash, and Freddy Mitchell, so who knows.
