Portis is back all the way at this point, it only took him 1-2 games.
He should have been in the game at the end.

about Betts vs Portis is Portis had a bad game today... I think anyone can agree on that... I say with some confidence that Betts did a better than decent job backstopping Portis last year when he got hurt... Given that Portis stunk today and he was hurt, why not put Betts in?

When the game is on the line, you put your play makers on the field. Betts is a heck of a backup but he's not a playmaker.

Portis got the majority of the carries because he is our best running back. Yes he fumbled once. Every running back fumbles, it's part of the game. CP also scored a td today. And yes he was banged up. He hurt his ankle in the 3rd quarter when Antonio Pierce fell on top of it. A running back also can't make holes open up magically. Our oline did a very poor job of run blocking the entire night. Who else did you want to get the ball? Ladell Betts who was averaging 1.3 yards per carry during the game?
did you watch the same game i did moron? it's questionable whether or not he's "our best running back". if he was hurt then maybe it was time to put Betts in... don't take this personally, but i think you're an idiot.
Betts was in the game. He ran 7 times for a whopping 9 yards. He was also the one that got the last two carries of the game from the 1 yard line and how exactly did he do in that situation? Take a look at the stats from every game this season before you start talking nonsense. CP has a better yards per carry average than Betts in every single game that we have played in. Portis, in 3 games, has one less td than Betts did all of last season. The guy has one fumble and he shouldn't be getting carries anymore?? Unbelievable. If you really think that Betts is a better rb than Porits you should probably just stop watching football now because it's pretty clear than you have no idea what is going on.
Good points. Right now, CP is playing good teammate and not publicly saying he should have been in the game but I know the competitor that he is, he's bubbling inside.
I don't see this "interchangeable" (as Gibbs calls CP and Betts) working after week four or five when CP has his legs and game shape back....
I'm hoping that it comes to an end after the bye week. I like having Betts as a backup to Portis but it seems to me that they have been switching them in and out a little too much. I think it's hard for either back to get into a rhythm when they are constantly changing them up. It's mind boggling to me that CP didn't get a single carry when we were at the 2 yard line at the end of the game. He did have a fumble today but he was also our most effective offensive player as he had 97 all-purpose yards and a td.

Portis should have been in there in the end, we also should have rolled JC out and have him run it in if noone was open. This loss may come and haunt us. The conservative play calling in the 2nd half killed us; I thought Campbell played very good, time to start calling plays to his strength, let him try and blow someone out, he's a big boy now.

Thats what we get for trying to squat on the lead from HALFTIME!
You don't squat on the lead with 2Qs left to play!
That was just horrible!

Thank goodness who dont wear those uniforms again this season. I think we will be fine once we are in our regular uniforms.

How exactly did Portis "stink"? He had 97 all-purpose yards and averaged 4.3 yards per carry and he scored a td also. That is hardly stinking. He also blocked really well too. Yes he fumbled, but every running back fumbles. Portis very rarely fumbles (just look at his career stats) so I'm not going to throw the guy under the bus for one fumble that didn't even lead to the other team scoring any points.

On a couple of plays I did notice Portis didn't look as explosive as usual, did anyone alse notice this? Usually when he runs the ball he looks almost freakish fast compared to the D. I still wanted him in there at the end though.

who said anything about throwing anybody under the freakin' bus? are you related to portis or something? The guy hobbled off the field several times today. He wasn't running well, he fumbled the ball at a crucial juncture of the game... If you want to say his 97 total yards made him worthy of a game ball then I'm going to disagree with you. we sucked in the second half and he was a key part of that. i could've cared less if they'd brought sonny jurgensen in and let him carried the ball, portis didn't look good to me today. if betts is the #2 guy then put him in for christ sake. he ran for over 1000 yards last year, i believe, didn't he? how does that make him not a playmaker?

I thought Portis didn't look his best today but feel he should have been in there at the end.

He wasn't running well,
And Betts was? He had 9 yards on 7 carries. Also, did you see some holes that the rest of us missed? What exactly do you want a running back to do when the oline isn't opening any holes and the play calling is so predictable that the D knows that we are going to run the run the ball?

Line play.
- the OL is the engine of the offense. If it's weak, the car doesn't go far.
- the DL (and LB) is the engine of the defense. Same as offense.
- Portis/Betts don't become blundering stumblers in one quarter. If they ran through holes last week, they can run through them this week. If there are holes.
- Right...Campbell is only part-way there. Not sharp yet.
Me? I'm going to ignore football for the rest of the week. Go Nats!!!!

the idea was to run it in, then Betts is still a good option on the goal line, at least to me... He's bigger than Portis and can take the pounding... the play just didn't work as betts tripped over sellers' feet... didn't matter... it should've never come to that... we gave one away tonight and it's one that will play a big role in the outcome in this division this year.

This should be our inspiration going into a bye week. I hope this charges the players going into Detroit because we know they can light up a score board.

I hope that this game motivates Gibbs to open up the offensive play book and stop being so conservative.

the man only had 9 yards on 7 carries... so that's your reason for using Portis vs Betts? the whole team only had 14 total yards of total offense in the entire second half a few minutes into the 4th quarter! I didn't see anybody step up and take it to the house so that's hardly a reason not to use ladell betts. The man ran for 1000 yards last year and they ran around in circles to sign him and keep him in DC. He's a big, bruising back... If you're going to run him at all, seems to me the ideal situation is in short yardage situations and on the goal line isn't it?
