I would have thought you were out somewhere getting absolutely blitzed out of your mind, Amberion. Good win, congratulations!

Amberion,

a) Is your team conspiring to give a heart attack to their fans?

b) Are they sadistic?

c) It is just the Australian way to build up drama?

d) all of the above?

Congratulations! They pulled three rabbits from a nearly-dead hat.

Good luck, Japan is a very good team. This victory should not be underestimated.

It is the USA's turn ladies and gentlemen. The fourth and last Concacaf team to play their first game.

Let's hear it guys!

Go USA!

Second half on. USA! USA! USA!! hopefully we can get something going here. Jan Koller the 6'8 giant for the Czech's is out...

60th minute in. Still 2-0.

Gotta say, the US offense looks really weak. They just can't get anything going. The Czechs look much more impressive.

We're not winning anything if we've only got 1 shot on goal to show for 70 minutes worth of play. C'mon, guys, get it together!

We keep getting shots that are "close, but no cigar".

Well done to Australia. It took some doing to pull that result out of the fire (an apt term when you consider the temperatures in Germany at the moment). Japan are nobody's fools, and this result shows that Hiddink is once more performing more magic tricks with the resources that he has at his disposal.

They've got a lot of work still to do, but I'll be cheering for them against Brazil and Croatia.

Hard luck to the US - they ran into a team that is simply a league above them, I'm afraid (and also a league above all but half a dozen teams in the tournament, IMO).

In reply to RiC's rhetorical question about teams that could beat Brazil - I say that the Czech's could. When the mood takes them, they can be awesome, and I don' think they'd allow themselves to be intimidated by the Brazilians. A lot depends on the injury to Koller though - their team is built around him.

Looking back at last night's game between Portugal and Angola, I have to say that Portugal disappointed me. They played some lovely football at times, but didn't deliver the killer blows. That may sum up Portugese football over the last decade.

Angola looked like they were going to get hammered after the first fifteen minutes, but they really pulled themselves together and could surely have sneaked a draw if only they had believed in themselves enough to commit more players to attack.

Take heart guys. Csech team is one of the top five in the world. They are at their best. Rucincky is a monster against -anybody-.

USA can still qualify to the next round if it wins against Italy and Ghana. Tough against Italy but doable. They will have to step it up. The first match is tough on all teams.

I just finished watching Italy v. Ghana. Italy did not look great at all. Opportunistic and good at defense but not much more than that. If the USA picks up its game, it has a chance against these two rivals.

I have no doubt that the Czechs will cruise through this group.

By the way, is anybody else also concerned about the number of yellow cards? Some players will misss future games at this rate!

I have very mixed feelings about the refs. Sometimes good, sometimes awful. You never know what you are going to get from one call to the next.

I also watched the Italy-Ghana game and it was 100% italian soccer. Iron clad defense + oportunistic offense. Thats how the've got 3 fifa trophys. Without a real leader in team USA, I may even see Ghana beating them. Donovan & Beasley dissapointed.

Sad to see 2 concacaf teams getting hammered. means we are very far from the soccer elites. 1 win, 1 scoreless tie (a surprise to most) and 2 defeats so far.
