But in five seasons, Brown has just 17 sacks, and has never demonstrated the kind of upfield explosiveness Cleveland saw in him when it made him the first overall choice in the 2000 draft. Cleveland paid him approximately $27 million for five years and Brown missed 33 games with knee, ankle, neck, biceps and foot injuries.

What a risk he would be...

I was just about to quote that paragraph into this thread, diesel44. Missing thirty-three games out of 80 (the number of regular season games in 5 seasons) means that he was on the field for 59% of the games. . .and I'm assuming that this isn't even counting the number of plays / drives / quarters that he's sat out in the games that he's played in. Who knows, he could easily have missed more than half of the defensive plays that his team has had in the last 5 years.

Here's what I'm thinking: if Barrow plays 2 more seasons with us, has a relatively healthy year this year and misses a little less than half of next year on IR. . .then we'd pretty much all call him a bust and not worth keeping (I'd think). And, if we knew this about him coming from another team, then we wouldn't want to trade for him, either. I'm starting to feel the same way about Brown.

In my opinion, he shouldn't be surprised in the least that he's getting incentive heavy contracts.

i think he's using jacksonville's 11thhour interest as a way to get more of that incentive money as guaranteed money. if i were him, and had his injury history, i think i'd welcome a system (like the skins) where i would rotated with two other guys rather than being a full-time starter (as they say he would be in denver). he might actually last a full season that way.

Too bad what you think and what Brown thinks are so far apart- or we might have us a Defensive end who only plays 59% of our games...hehe.

I know I am biased being a skin fan but I really think Washington is the best place to revive his career. As others have pointed out, he would be rotating with players and would have less chance of being injured.

Remember how much of a bust Hugh Douglas was as a DE in Jacksonville? But Jacksonville is close to South Carolina where he is from. I look at it that we are dangling the keys to the kingdom in front of his face. Everything he could possibly want is here in Washington. He'll be an absolute FOOL not to come here: unless his plan is to get a bunch of up front money and then quit football as opposed to reviving his career.

It is all relative to the money. You're only a bust in comparison to expectations. Expectations should be proportionate to the salary. IF we don't overpay then he could be viewed as part of the rotation with some very good run-stopping DE's (Wynn and Daniels among others). From that perspective, considering he won't be expected to play every down AND assuming Coach Williams and Blache are excited about working with him, then I think he will bea great fit. BUT if we overpay, then all bets are off.

Question? Does an agent representing a NFL football player get paid on a contract excluding incentives or including incentives? In other words is Brown's agent the one who is making my life miserable?

I think the agents commision is based on the salary + bonus, not incentives. I wouldn't let it bother you though. We need to go into these negotiations with a price in mind and stick to it.

It's like Ebay. I don't know how many times I've seen idiots bidding up an item above what you'd pay on the street just because they didn't want to lose. If you're going to get a good deal on something, you can't change your mind at the last second and get into a bidding war. Plus, we only want Brown if he's interested in Washington for more reasons tham the money. We don't need any more overpaid whiners wearing the burgundy and gold.

I agree. But, Brown's agent might not have his (Brown's) best interests in mind.

C.Brown will do use greatly, Playing in a defence were there's a heavy rotating D-Line he will stay heathly with us and we wont put that much pressure on him and his health because of the rotation. Also if we dont get a starting corner in the draft most likely Walt Harris will start and C.Brown will take a lot of pressure off the secondary if he's healthy!!

I dont know- at first it seemed to be an ok at best signing- now Im leaning against it. To me he had his shot at signing with a hall of fame coach, he is out for the $ now. These guys that statistically suck and cant stay healthy should feel blessed Gibbs even acknowledged them and spent time flying to see them.

It really comes down to whether or not Jax is willing to pay guaranteed money for a player who they have no gaurantee that he will be able to stay on the field. I think he will pick the 'Skins if Jax doesn't throw a huge signing bonus at him, or at least doesn't tie his compensation to performance incentives.

as impatient as i am to see this thing come to an end, i think the guy deserves a few days to think about where he'd like to move his family for the next few years.

Yes, I'm getting anxious & impatient too but you are right, the guy deserves a few days to decided.

Do you honestly think it really has anything to do about where he is moving his family? Come on guys- this guy is doing everything to seek out a contract thats not incentive based and health based, if that means the Siberian Polar Bears offered the right guaranteed money he would be on NFL network smiling ear to ear talking about moving his baby momma out there on the next flight.

 O.K. you caught me, I thought that was the only thing he had to consider.

Do you honestly believe that we did not consider the other possibilities; come on this stuff isn't rocket science and this thread as be going on for a while, so maybe were just playing another angle or throwing out a new idea.

 However consider this, if all the deals on the table from other teams at the end of the day are equal or even somewhat close. You can bet your bottom dollar that he will consider (weigh his options) where he wants to raise his kids, what type of weather he might endure in the off season and if there is enough friends and family in the area for his wife to visit while he's on the road or at practice. Money talks, but when you can't squeeze any more out you have to start looking at the other positives.

Your right- but in this individual case bet you bottom dollar where little Johnny might go to school aint coming up in the discussion..hehe. As far as weather goes- he is coming out of Cleveland for gods sake- anything will be better :)

 This is very true, but I would rather spend the off-season in Jacksonville any day. Hurricanes aside that is 8)

Ever spent a winter in London, Ontario Canada. I snow plow for a living, believe me it sucks. The only place that could be worse in my mind would be Buffalo…for snow removal that is.

I kind of like the place.

As far as Brown goes he needs to pick a team soon. We could always go after Marques Douglas he might not cost too much
