How many #2 through 4 tour WRs dies one team need?

Don't have a #1 in the entire group. And none of these guys are a clear improvement (if at all) over Gafney or Moss. So we are concentrating on getting younger, but not measurably better.

@PFF_MikeClay Gaffney(+2.45 savings), Moss(+800k saving)

That's the number i was after. No point cutting Moss for that savings, unless they think he's done...

I actually agree with most of this. I disagree that Garcon isn't an improvement over Gaffney/Moss, but agree that he isn't a #1 at this point, even though we just paid him like one. Don't see much improvement at all with the Morgan and Royal signings.

Skeletor wrote:Sorry, maybe i'm being dense here, but when you say cap hit, do you mean total amount due versus 2012 cap? Or do you mean amount of money that will count against the cap if they are cut?

If I understand salary cap rules, if they cut a player, all of the remaining bonus get accelerated into the current year.

If the accelerated bonus is bigger than the salary, its referred to as a cap hit, and if it's less than the salary, then you create savings.

I'm still not sure how much money it will cost or save to cut those players...

The cap hit is what they will cost the team this year, if they were to cut Moss the team would save $1.484M because right now he will cost $4.816M the balance would be DEAD CAP ($3.332M that would count this year without him on the team). If they cut him after June 1st (they could do it now and have it hit June 1st) it would save the team $1.666 spreading his dead cap over two years with $3.150M counting in dead cap this year and the balance due next year.

Gaffney's release would take $2.65M off the books not dead money.

Safe to say Gaffney is done here? How many receivers does one team need?

Hankerson
Paul
Gaffney
Armstrong
Moss
Royal
Garcon
Morgan
Stallworth

Doesn't matter what you and I think. I can only think they think that. Or they're banking on Gaffney being the #1.

My gutt say's that they rotate guys at various spots based on matchups.

I've got to believe that with all these signings, there will be some cuts announced today as well...

Moss? Gaffney? Cooley? Hall? Brown?

We got a lot of guys who can get open deep, which isn't a bad idea since RGIII throws a GREAT deep ball. However, Morgan and Royal haven't proven to be consistent. Maybe out of the two of them someone will be decent and healthy.

I think we'll hear about some trades b4 cuts like Moss, Gaffney, Cooley, Hall - Brown most likely cut.

Adam Caplan saying that Royal has NOT signed with us.

If anything, these signings indicate that they are underwhelmed with what they have on the roster right now.

Why does this surprise anyone? They carried 11 WR on the roster at one point last season

Out of our signings so far he'd do the best at protecting RGIII haha

I think they're banking on Hankerson making a serious debut this year, in regards to the lack of height in the FA acquisitions.

I take back my comments on our offensive line. We have maybe three solid guys on the offensive line. Hope Young Williams can keep improving on an already solid start. Hopefully Jamal can stay healthy and young Kory can come back from injury.

I do like the signings of Garcon and Royal. I just wonder what direction our FO is going? Do we really need a total makeover at the WR and TE positions?
All these signings and not one whisper of going after an Olineman.

I think we are solid at TE in fact we have a potential Pro Bowler in Davis. I also thought Hankerson showed some promise along with Armstrong. With the addition of our new QB I am sure these receivers new and old would of been fine.

All I am saying is I hope to hear some news about some kind of addition to the Oline. Even solid depth would be good. We dont pick until the 3rd round of the draft. So I really hope we grab some help there.

Hearing that the Skins have reached out the Evan Mathis who's a lineman. Don't have info on him though.

guys! Eddie Royal was awesome in his only year in Shanahan's offense! that would be a GREAT low cost high upside pickup.

Good point!

It's looking like our new WR coach wasn't impressed by all the film he's watched of last seasons performances...
