They like being old. I don't but I guess they both have a track record of going after aged vets. Again, I like to be young and old but I'm not making the big bucks.

See I was surprised a bit by Rob Jackson. I guess I like the guy so deep down I thought with a new coach, they would see the upside.

The preference for vets is my one concern with Shanahan. There was an article this week (can't remember where) talking about how Shanahan, during his last few years in Denver, grew frustrated with developing young players and really started preferring experienced players. It's kind of what got him in trouble/fired in Denver. They made some terrible trades/signing of defensive players and as a result their D was a mess.

Didn't Hanson just get hurt in the last preseason game? Doesn't that mean his salary is guaranteed?

They have almost as many RBs (5) as they OL (8)......
No depth at OL....
A boatload of converted DL playing LB while a rookie LB made the roster at FB....
This roster will be changing soon

As a former Broncos fan I can say that was not why Mike got fired. Look at WR Eddie Royal. He made him a star as a rookie. WR Brandon Marshall and QB Jay Cutler taking over mid-season replacing Jake Plummer.
Mike didn't do well with defense and player acquisitions and tried to trust the players on their word. See Maurice Claret, and the other Douche bag free agent running back Travis Henry from the Titans that had 9 kids from 9 different women was almost suspended for two games for testing positive for marijuana (Mike stood up for him all the way during the appeal). Henry got busted for cocaine the year after his release. Henry was a pathetic human being with talent. I think this has a lot to to with his attitude toward Albert Haynesworth. He has realized that just trusting players and giving them the benefit of the doubt is over. When Albert didn't show up in shape, Mike was not the one who was going to get blamed for Albert's petulance.

'Waived injured' means the team is releasing the player but the player is injured. The team is responsible to pay the player until his injury has healed. This is usually done by reaching an agreement for a specific amount of money, called an injury settlement. Other teams are allowed to pick up players on the waived injured list but they are forewarned that the player is not in condition to play. Sometimes, if a player on the waived injured list is not selected by another team, the team will retain the player and place him on its injured reserve list.

Great post - welcome to the site and thanks for the info. Canes - I've read the same but it may have something to do with the scouts that were in Denver at the time. I don't know. I followed Shanny as much as any other Redskins fan I guess. But I know that our GM has shown to love vet's when he was in TB. That was in the post. I really would love to have a nice mix but maybe that's what we have. Who knows. We'll see what happens here in the next day or so b/c there still could be trades, FA pickup's, etc. Get ready - tomorrow is the start of DALLAS WEEK!!!!

Does it really matter? It's all about identifying talent and bringing on young talent on your roster. We did that so what's the big deal.

For those who constantly hammer on the "build from the draft" philosophy, things are not really the same as they were just a few years back.
Today, high round rookie contracts are getting outrageous (often some of the highest paid on the team), while the contracts themselves aren't worth the paper they are written on, which is particularly troublesome with low rounders who quickly become major contributors.
So, you have a situation where you have great talent scouts ... they find those hidden gems in the later rounds ... and after one year or two, they're holding out, demanding a new contract. The entire situation has come full circle where the Veteran, proven player often costs less than the unproven 1st and 2nd rounders who may or may not become solid contributors. And those later round rookies will either bust or want more money if they do produce.
So who do you want to spend your money on ... a proven commodity or a gamble that if it works out .. still wants more money?
The solution to this is for actual contracts that are enforced and guaranteed, which would protect the player and the team.
As it stands now, you cannot simply rely on the draft ... especially given the turnover on NFL rosters ... and the wash out rate for the drafted players.
I think Philadelphia will be the team to either prove or disprove the philosophy ... they had more picks than anyone ... and have dumped veterans right and left.
And I think the Skins are gonna kick some Eagle beak this year

Good to know. Thanks, 1nik! Is that a new rule? I've never heard of that before. Still, I wonder why a team would ever do that, if they want to keep the player. Why would you expose him to other teams, rather than just lock him up by simply putting him on IR.
