If you haven't gotten the memo, the Redskins haven't signed an overpriced free agent since Archuleta and Lloyd. The Redskins last foray into FA had them get 2 guys (Fletcher and Smoot) who fit their defense, and cost about the same, combined, as Derrick Dockery that same year.

If the Redskins suddenly go and sign someone else to a huge, massive contract, perhaps you can bring this pitchfork back out. But they haven't in a long while. Hell, did they sign anyone last year?

Pulp did you read back a few posts I said as much...this whole conversation is based on what TC stated about Ryan Clark. I have given the FO credit for moving in a different direction....Fair enough??

I was on record as not liking the the JT pickup because of the picks involed not because we didn't need him. I would add that errors of the past created the need.

Jason Taylor, DeAngelo Hall, Shawn Alexander and Ryan Plackemeier

Jason Taylor was not a FA. and the other guys were added mid-season for vet minimum.

Exactly. And NONE of those guys came with the enormous guarenteed salary bonus you would see with a FA pickup.

Yes, I agree that technically Taylor was a trade, but we had to pick up his salary from Miami. I also don't think Taylor was a bad move at the time.

Apparently, the Giants felt the same way as they were also working to get him.

As for the rest, I felt they were good examples of low-risk/low-cost FA moves.

Oh sorry, misread. You were just posting examples in support of what I wrote, not counters.

Kazoo, I don't know what the problem is, but I think you've got the wrong poster. If you think your response was appropriate, I'd like you to go back and find one single post from me where I said anything like that.
If you can't find that, I'd like a mea culpa. Otherwise, that's just messed up.

Let me wait on Kazoo before I make this worse. Maybe I offended him somehow, and this will all start to make sense.

You cut out the quote I provided. We were stupid for letting Clark go, Pierce was going to stay "on the cheap" which is totally bogus, I'm not repeating the history so many others have. Gibbs had lost his touch. And you said that in the chorus of Skins bashing for how stupid we are. You can mea culpa or not, your choice, but you bash the Skins in a Skin bashing kvetch and the stink may stick.

Offend? No way. I like to argue with Skins bashers among many, many other groups. Agreement doesn't even mean I won't argue the point. :0) Offending is a high hurdle achieved by few. Regarding the quote, we hear the same points endlessly dragged out by "fans." If you're saying the quote wasn't yours then it's me who needs to do a mea culpa. I try not to do that, but with all the nested quotes it can get messed up. If the bashing quote based on the old tired points was yours then I stand by that the points are just tired and not worthy of a fan to drag out AGAIN.
